Toradora 3 - Minorin is so adorable~ and taiga gives me creepy stalker vibes.>_>

Edit - Toradora 4 - So wait, a guy confesses to her, she instantly rejects him, then after wards she falls in love with him? now that is some screwed up tsundere behavior.:lol
Don't worry Lafiel, you can expect some sweet character development where she goes from tsun to dere.

Bakemono is pretty much doomed unless Aniplex brings it to the US themselves (which they probably will in the future). The show is such a massive hit in Japan that there is no way Aniplex would license it out for a logical fee. Certainly not a profitable one.
It's such a beautiful mindset. Not much point in licensing it anyway, it's hardly going to play to mainstream crowd.

I'm just happy that there hasn't been any noticeable fallout from the Fractale situation from a few months ago. There are a lot of reasons for companies to be skittish given how there's still a lot of piracy even when shows are getting simulcasted.
Some people assume that was just a PR stunt.

Looks like my piece of writing on Evangelion 2.22 has gone critical, now that I've hit 2000 words. Whoops.

That's a strange to admit too, in that you're admitting a negative.

Eh, I tend to have to explain it, even to my own English profs... Sometimes they even have some trouble conceptualizing the modernist Grand Narrative. It's kinda funky. Anyway, I tend to use it in conjunction with Jungian archetypes. It can create some pretty interesting stuff like that. I wrote my theory term paper on moe based on that sort of literary understanding.

To be fair, I've only read a number of detailed posts explaining it. I'm going to order "Otaku" when I have some spare cash.

I actually meant to cut it down because it was turning into a bit of a rant. However the processing of editing it down actually generated new ideas. Maybe it'll be finished sometime this year, with nice sub-headings and everything.

Kaiji S2 Ep 1
One episode in and Kaiji is already fucked. Seems like he lost all the knowledge he gained during the previous gambles.
Kaiji is always usually just an angry punk when he isn't in a gambling situation. But once he's placed into a serious business gamble his powers awaken.
Instro said:
Also is it just me or is the narrator even more intense this time around? So dramatic.
The narrator makes the whole damn show.

Ah, of course. Buy it, it's a great book, I was just disappointed that it was published stateside in 2009, but its original publishing date was like 2001. I DO sort of want to send my paper to the author to see if I can get any pointers though. I kind of expanded and added to his theory by adding another tier to the creation of small non-narratives from the Grand Non-Narrative.

Isn't that related to Derrida's "Archive Fever"?

Aria [the Scarlet Ammo] looks terrible and I hope it isn't the unannounced show CR will be streaming, because then I'll be forced to watch at least one episode and twintails are like the bane of my existence.

Kaiji S2

Aw man, they didn't show the shifting of the powers with Tonegawa's group. It was nice to know Kaiji dealt a major blow to those bastards and they omit it? Not only that, but his reintroduction was A LOT more badass in the manga.

Still can't wait to see how things play out. And what was the deal with that ED :lol

They'll probably highlight it more in the Pachinko arc where it'll be relevant, but yeah missing out on all that damage Kaiji did to certain parts of the organization blew.

Honestly, they should have skipped the recap and just animated the beginning proper. Then again it really isn't relevant to the current arc so I can understand glossing over it and changing that section.

I'd have no problem with them omitting the damage Kaiji dealt to the group if the first season didn't end on such a downer. As it stands, they're portraying the dude as powerless when he's far from it. Hard to get motivated to continue when the audience thinks the guy is almost guaranteed to lose again.

Fortunately, they'd be very wrong.

Not sure, I haven't read it (it's on the list ;___;). But I do think so. Azuma is definitely Derridan in his theory, so there to be elements of Archive Fever wouldn't really surprise me.

Kaiji won't be a shot-for-shot remake of the original. The horror!

I think I'm going to like Tiger & Bunny. Wish that one guy wasn't called Fire Emblem because I'll think of him when I play those games. :(

Hrm:

A vital non-Western intervention in postmodern culture and theory, Otaku is also an appealing and perceptive account of Japanese popular culture.

That sounds about right. I feel like I should read it now. :lol

I wanted to see Kaiji be a badass before
getting drugged and thrown into a work camp!
Plus was that recap really necessary? It could have fit into that time.

It was fine, they'll have time to fit that in later (if they want). Just get me to the bog. Besides, he's more likable as the man fated to lose.

I can't quote you because it would reveal a spoiler!

No, I don't think it was necessary. It has been three years since season one aired though, so there's nothing terribly wrong with it. Episodes in the first season sometimes miss-managed their time as well.

Very true, but they skipped Kaiji's Endou harassment. The bog will be glorious as fuck though I can't wait.

I guess I'm just a bit peeved since I thought it was a nice start to the arc. Certainly isn't make or break material though.

Gintama Movie

I'm amazed I watched through all this, for one I generally hate going through something I've already seen which is why I watch through most shows once, and once only, and I didn't take to the One Piece Movie 8 (or 9 or both) very well because it basically did what the Gintama movie did turned an arc into a feature length movie, and just skipped them altogether, I must have really liked the Benizuka arc more than I realised.

Censorship has been even stronger this season, but there have been elaborate attempts around it.

Oh, I don't really mind, I just think it's funny how they end up sexualizing it. Great use of the Zetai Ryoki for the holsters though. draw the eye that way.

It was an observation that may or may not explain the choice of zettai ryouki minus the panties. I just felt compelled to remark about it after the yellow tape censoring in Ore-tachi Tsubasa.

Well sure, and there was alot of that in K-On (probably in the gag comic too) and Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei (damn you Mr. Kumeta!). I'd honestly say it's more of a character and narrative choice than a "OHES NOES, WE CAN'T SHOW PANTIES" deal. Overbearing panty-shots would take away from the tsundere any any seriousness the show wanted to portray. Add to that, regular teasing of panty-shots would be a great running gag for a tsundere to deal with.

BTW, is anyone but the thread snobs interested in my academic paper on moe?

Probably. I'm too receptive to the idea anime has made it normal to expect such things.

Sure. But what's a thread snob here?

Sure! I've got all the time in the world available to twiddle my thumbs at work lately. I offered to read a 2000+ word review of a movie I haven't seen in a series I don't care for, after all.
Speaking of which, I'm done! I had an 11th hour breakthrough after scrapping my attempts to to lodge all my complaints into one unified theory. One complete reorganisation and re-draft later and I'm left with a relatively tidy 2477 words. Now it's just time to pull some pictures.

Right, well it took a bit of canoodling with google docs to get the two pictures I have in there (had to get rid of the captions), but go ahead and take a look. I'm pretty proud of it (I should be, I got a flying A+ on it), but I should really re-write a few of the parts to provide a better perspective on alternate interpretations. Keep in mind, my tag applies to this quite a bit (which is funny because my theory teacher was flamingly gay). Word count is about 2500. Enjoy~ (and comment if you like)

Speaking of posting stuff that one has written here's my spoilerfific Evangelion 2.22 dicussion http://scenesofdespair.tumblr.com/. Mine's only 2499 words though.

Tumblr is stretching my images and I've forgotten how to fix that problem. Hmm.
I've never really hidden it, and I don't have a blog. I'm pretty sure I posted a video with my name on it before where I described the literary elements of video games.

Why the hell are you wasting 2500 words about anime on a reasearch paper when you could just as easily put it on some random blog?

Anyway, I can't believe I read both of those in their entirety. Guess that's what separates the true monocle people from the rest of us uncouth plebes.
