Nah, it's just that combining child death with all the usual romance trappings is one of the easiest and most effective tricks in the book. I mean, Hunger Games just made $150 mil in one weeked you know

You would think Kobayashi + Secret Base would be my favourite thing ever... but it's still inferior to the Ano Hana version!

One Piece 9
These early episodes sure like to introduce annoying characters: first Luffy, now Usopp. Hopefully they become more tolerable down the line.
The storyboarder of this episode really likes slanted perspectives, to a disorienting degree.
Its not really child death. Its more nostalgia (or forced nostalgia in this case). Its why Square Enix has been able to keep afloat all these years.
We all like to slag on AnoHana here but it IS one of the biggest anime properties in the past few years or so.
Well, to be fair, the Hunger Games franchise's best book has nothing to do with child death. But I digress.
And that's exactly why anime is doomed.
Alight magical girl fans, assignment time! Recommend me a series with a scene as badass and hot-blooded as this (Symphogear 12 spoilers).
Did I see somebody said nichibros got licensed too by NISA.
More of my $$$ incoming if so.
What's with all the love I'm feeling here? This ain't the pony thread!

But...but...I still want her body pillow!Turn in your Kobayashi fan club badge.
It's true.My Bro.
That's true, so we have the triple whammy of tragic childhood death, cheap :firehawk nostalgia, and a love story. Most fictional works under that template already have the deck stacked in their favor from day one!
Actually, that template seems to fit Bridge to Terabithia pretty well, except Bridge to Terabithia is actually good.
Well fuck, so much for saving money this year.
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha has some pretty fantastic sequences in it.
Nanoha and Nanoha As are definitely pretty hot blooded. Nanoha is one of the most badass magical girls ever.
Cross Game does it and does it well. It also has baseball!

"Fan Favorite premium packaging" has to be some kind of Tadakuni joke.
Hey do you guys know which ep was the Skettama crossover ep? I never actually saw it.
Skirt Tadakuni reversible cover, go!
Does the Buggy arc count as the Zoro intro arc? Because I would say that's worse. Kuro is at least a cooler antagonist. He was what made it a "just one more episode" show for me.
And that's exactly why anime is doomed.

At least it won't be Aniplex pricing?

At least Ano Hana has more going for it than Angel Beats.

Um, no.
Usopp is awesome, though. I guess I can see how he would be a bit annoying at first, but he grows a lot as the series go on.
I was never big on any of the minor antagonists, and I'd probably consider Luffy's battle againstto be the most boring moment in the series.Don Kreig
Cross Game does it and does it well. It also has baseball!
The only redeeming thing about Usopp's arc to me is the "boy who cried wolf" scenario, because that was probably the first time in the series that I experienced any real tension.
