Tomodachi wa Mahou
Nice, now you have me remembering episode 1.
;_;
I really should get around to watching the whole thing.

Also, isn't that sort of thing basically Adachi's MO?

Yes.

As much as I loved Cross Game it really wasn't as good as Touch. Maybe I just prefer Touch since it was my first Adachi experience. But Cross Game is still fantastic stuff.

It is his MO. He's pretty much a god at it.

I also get why they did that thing in ep1 but the manga was more of a punch in the gut because he takes 1 full volume before he brings the hammer down so you get to know the characters first then BOOM. The fucker.

It's true, though. Nanoha's going to befriend your ass.

I watched all of the original series and half of A's. Don't remember anything particularly hot-blooded about it. Just lots of beam-spam and no screaming.

I would definitely agree with that. The Baratie arc is easily my least favorite in the series. It drags on far too long and doesn't really have many memorable moments. Thankfully, the following arc is when everything completely clicks into place.

Really? I loved the Baratie arc. Sanji's back story was the first time I really started to take the world seriously and not just see it as some wacky adventure with no drama.

I also can't really see ANY arc worse than the Davy Back Fight.

26 or something. It was the episode after Switch's back story which was rather... jarring.

Ep 26 iirc. But it's terrible, Gintama x Sket dance episode is better.

Thx, it was indeed 26. And I see what you mean Cosmic, that must have been whiplash like hell, haha. I saw the Geintama x Sket Dan one already, and didn't think much of it, tbh. I read the chapters of both, but just remembered that I never watched SD's side of the thing.

Usopp is awesome? Awesome at being useless? He always felt as the most useless character in the crew, part of the weak trio permanentantly. Out of all 540 episodes he only had litrally one decent episode.

Weirdly enough,
though he get's but a small bit of the limelight,
those chapters/eps with his (Water 7:)
confrontation with Luffy about his cowardice
is quite possible the most significant character developments to occur in OP--Save for the
Timeskip. I consider characters developing off screen like that to be audience-sanctioned asspulls.

*It's times like these that I wish the anime thread adopted Mangaf's policy in regards to spoilers, jesus.

This is what I was saying. In Touch, before Adachi gut punches you with the twist, it seemed like it was gonna be a nice mellow story about the 2 brothers and Minami. Then it happens
;_;

Actually, the battles against
Pearl and Don Krieg
were the only things about the Baratie arc that I didn't like.
Sanji's horrifying backstory, Mihawk crashing the party, and Nami's betrayal that leads into Arlong Park
are all pretty good and I'd rank it as the best East Blue arc that isn't
Arlong Park
.

You never forget your first Adachi experience. I read Cross Game first, but I definitely love Touch as well. Each series has their own bits that they do better than the others.

Agreed. I get why the anime wanted that in the first episode, but the manga version is so much better due to all of the time you get to know the characters. I still cry whenever I read through the first volume.
It's not even the scene where he finds that kills me (although that's sad), it's Ko seeing Akaishi crying that devastates me every time I read through it.

Usopp's awesome. It's not all about fighting.

Yeah. Usopp might not be the best fighter, but he's the strongest in terms of personality. He's the kind of guy you want to have as your friend.

Yeah. Usopp might not be the best fighter, but he's the strongest in terms of personality. He's the kind of guy you want to have as your friend.

It's pretty much the point of his whole character. He's a regular guy in a crew of superhumans and somehow he always manages to survive on his wits alone even when he's vastly out of his league. He's a fictional character that I have a surprisingly real respect for.

Usopp's awesome. It's not all about fighting.

Without a compelling character design then I expect characters to make up for that shortfall in great fighting prowess, cool poses, and often no character in the category does, so well I just cant associate him with that.

That was his best moment, ignoring the
Ussop'n
. He's often forgettable but I will never forget that moment, one of the top 10 moments in One Piece.

Ok, that was retarded. At that point though, it was quite obvious where the story was heading so whatever, I treated Akane as more like a distraction than anything.
Sure, just saying though. Either you're okay with this stuff or you're not. If you're not, you might as well pack it in and go watch white people romcoms like Friends.

I guess we simply don't watch anime for the same reasons, then. That's ok.

I had only seen few episodes and I loved the Stand By Me vibe. I'll try to buy this to watch it all.

Any word for how to get this if you're in UK/Europe?

I watched all of the original series and half of A's. Don't remember anything particularly hot-blooded about it. Just lots of beam-spam and no screaming.

There's not much screaming, but I've always thought that Nanoha was one of the more badass characters in any anime. She's not one to be crossed.

Really? I loved the Baratie arc. Sanji's back story was the first time I really started to take the world seriously and not just see it as some wacky adventure with no drama.

I also can't really see ANY arc worse than the Davy Back Fight.

Sanji's backstory is interesting, but my problem is that it just feels like the arc drags on and on. I don't care about any of the villains, and it feels like there's a lot of padding. I never had that issue with any of the super long arcs, but the Baratie arc always has me checking my watch.

The Davy Back Fight isn't great, but it's pretty unique. I don't really mind it.

Actually, the battles against
Pearl and Don Krieg

There are good moments like those, but we get way too much of the characters that nobody cares about. It feels like they fight
Pearl
for 25 episodes.

Goddamn you, man. Now I'm remembering it ;_;

Yeah, it's very easy to have genuine respect for Usopp. He lives his life in a very respectable manner, and I always appreciate the Usopp/Kuwabara character who isn't necessarily taken seriously and is somewhat out of their league but still stands up for their beliefs.

Adachi has his own bullshit too though. lol

HEY IT'S WAKABA OH NO WAIT IT'S NOT

That was dumb. Thankfully, it was such a minor part of the actual story that it's easy to brush aside.

It formed the basis of the whole
love square
in the later half of the series though.

I've watched some obscure Adachi adaptations. I eat this stuff up.
I don't mind, I'm just saying if you're going to recommend a generic safe non-Japanese romcom anime, Cross Game isn't it for that very reason. lol

I definitely agree, but the thing with that and I is: Just by having Nami in there as the partner in struggle takes away the aspect of isolation, taking away a good bit of the luster in it. And that's no critique to Usopp's or Nami's character as much as it's an annoyance with the blatant duality in Oda's writing.

Sket Dance 51
tumblr_m1o5t9Z1cI1r3x2t8o1_500.gif

Well that was perhaps the best episode in Sket Dance. I never laughed so much from an anime as of late then this. Every moment was so good and I couldnt stop laughing at the banner thing and robots.

Photo and moments when viewing the video were really touching and nice development

Bring on year two of the anime.

Chihayafuru END

Damn I'm gonna miss this show. It kind of lost its footing near the end but the last episode reminded me why I love these characters. I'll have to check out the manga because I want to see where it goes from here.

Alight magical girl fans, assignment time! Recommend me a series with a scene as badass and hot-blooded as this (Symphogear 12 spoilers).
That's honestly weak. Watch Heartcatch Precure instead.
why the fuck does shit like this sell while Lagrange doesn't? Not like I'm losing any sleep over it.

Are we talking about Batman?

Been doing it and nothing has come close to that scene yet. I might actually get into the genre if that was a good reflection of it.
