Wait why would you downgrade animation?
Hope nobody minds a few larger gifs if they're for a legitimately interesting purpose.

When Numata is in charge of animation direction, everything sure moves a lot more than in other episodes, one of the most extreme cases is certainly the super-smooth movement and lip-synch in Kannagi #2. However, Yutaka Yamamoto wasnt really happy with it as way too many drawings were used. Episode 1 had 6000 animation frames while episode 2 had 12000 (!) animation frames, thats a jump of 100% (the other episodes had 4000-5000 as far as I know). On the DVD audio commentary he put the blame on Numata, but I cant imagine that hes the only one at fault. I mean, its not like Numata worked alone on that episode, there was still the episode director after all. And as director, Yamamoto himself was supposed to keep track of budgetary issues like the number of animation frames used. Apparently, he found out way too late about it since the episode was corrected for a later broadcast & DVD (some of the lip-synch was removed and such). As I said, Numata is definitely someone who loves to make everything move a lot, but Im not sure if he would ignore instructions from the director(s) like some people accused him of. Either way, Yamakan probably prefers not to work with him anymore
DVD version looks better though.
Episode 2 of Kannagi was the Numata episode, right?
It's too bad they didn't do a girls sing version of Panzerlied...
OH WAIT!
I'm going to be horrified, though, if Panzerlied becomes well-known enough in Japan that it somehow leads to them repealing Article 9 and re-militarizing. Historical irony, that.
No it doesn't.
Also, the Sakura Tange character was revealed by the cast listing to be the modern equivalent of main antagonist Sosai X:

Sure, especially if the tv version of episode 2 doesn't match the animation style of the other episodes of the show.
Stole this from tafer in the funny pics thread.

Girls und Panzer 01
Oh hey the concept's sorta like Upotte.
This show is still an "I don't even" kind of show at this point. Kinda sucks that the MC had to get forced into doing Tankery through intense peer pressure, but eh I know the story's gotta move on somehow.
What in actual fuck they're on an aircraft carrier
Asking because watching the wrong dub is a crime
Revolutionary Girl Utena 1
I sincerely doubt that the men's uniform for the school is tight red shorts. Mostly because the other boys shown in the background are all wearing mint green suits. And the girl in the OP looks like Papillon from Gao Gai Gar Final.
Yeah. Anthy is a dead ringer for GGGF's Papillon.
This is some absurdly dramatic music for an informal meeting of the Student Council. Also, this rose frame thing is beginning to bug me. "For now I am his Bride"? So what, is the Student Council a free love cult or something?
Onion Kingdom sounds like a rad place. Bet they have Onion Knights there like Luneth and Davos Seaworth.
The hell are these shadow puppets about?
Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. This song is kinda creepy. Wow, so uh, does the Champion have total rights to the Rose Bride, then? Why would anyone agree to that?
Yo, f'get pullin' swords from stones. Pullin' a sword from yo' bride's breast is where it is at. Also, World Revolution is an awesome song.
This show is kinda weird.
Yeah, the anime definitely did not bring up that stuff.
Holy shit theres more:
Now that's more like it! I'm satisfied enough, thanks Tamerlane... keep up the good work (and embrace the chit-chat, it doesn't really discourages informative posts like yours). There's my Roger Ebert blurb review. Unlike Ebert however I consider Video Games, along with Anime and Pick Ups, to be the best Arts of our time.

Many thanks for doing this comparison, Mad Pierrot. As he likes it, Mr. Numata sure went overboard! At least I'm glad I was able see his 'untainted' vision first.Hope nobody minds a few larger gifs if they're for a legitimately interesting purpose.

Exactly! Homogeneity would restrain the possibility of animators (and more) to imprint some of their own character to a project. These people also want to have fun while working and invite and see what close pals can do as well, so inside a big series/OVA project they have a opening they probably wouldn't enjoy working on their own, it gives more opportunities. A varied visual approach, specially on episodic works, can also be appealing for other people than those constant followers, attract different ones, and consequently can be offered with that notion in the mind of the producers.Inconsistency in animation style is not automatically a bad thing. Skilled animators should be allowed to express their individual styles, within reason.
Huh, I thought she's been struggling to get work as of late? Or did that end up being mere circumstance.http://www.ntv.co.jp/GATCHAMAN_Crowds/
Cast and music announced.
Full cast list (thanks Ikari, I just copied and pasted ):
Paiman - Aya Hirano
Sonic 1 GG/MS is probably the closest to the Genesis/MD games that I've played not only because it features a large number of the same zones albeit differently arranged. It definitely feels a lot more like a platformer than a speed fest. Everything from there on out takes more of a divergence I feel; probably due to limitations. The Genesis/MD games have far more sprawling levels and divergent paths where the GG games end up being, not necessarily linear since there's still a lot exploration you can do but more restrictive. That's what I've been told after all this years of the first Sonic the Hedgehog being the only one of the saga I've played; I got my SEGA Master System II console in a good offer for a bundle with that game included, but bought it mainly to play the magnificent Wonder Boy series. I liked that first Sonic and since then I've always wondered if the other versions of the games were really that different, to the point of not making the necessary step to purchase another at the time. I shall rectify that, someday...
Ah, Nakama. It's far to find another human being willing to share that they hate RE4. My only exposure to the RE series and it did nothing to convince it was worth trying again.I'm just glad he compared it to Redline and not Resident Evil 4.
Everytime I see the RE4 comp I cry inside. I can't stand that fucking game.
One of the Rie's better roles: i.e not squealing and yelling at people to shut up.Yes it is certainly a fine example of the genre.
And by fine I mean terrible and yet somehow fun. I blame it on Mizore being amazing.
Yes! Those Kaede fans tears were so, so sweet. All though in comparison to all the other girls, that's not really a contest.Actually I can think of one anime where best girl won.
Shuffle
This is largely too late now since you've started already but Try's a pretty good season. It doesn't have the overall quality of Next and it feels like it meanders a bit too long before it gets down to the good stuff but the payoff is definitely worth it I think. Plus it has Houko Kuwashima who is basically top tier.Sooooooo good. Should I even bother watching Season 3 when Season 2 has been so good?
You just said the understatement of the year. Utena is beyond weird sometimes. It might even be described as ANIME!

U-Tan is already best girl.
Xbone-tan is more moe. Can't wait to see what PS4-tan looks like? Guys a good artist.

we haven't even seen PS4-tan yet.
Sure, I was talking more in general terms after seeing that hosannainexcelsis reply. Not sure how this applied to Kannagi, where Numata most likely ignored the director and went overboard with the budget.
Uuuuuh, but we've seen U-tan. I don't need to see Kaname if I've already got Mao.
DVD version looks better though.
One of Yamakan's better decisiion as director to reduce the jarring animation style for the DVD release.
That's an odd approach, it seems to look completely inferior.
Not all people like overacting.
Well I am a scientist, dammit; I don't come to conclusions until I've collected all the data.
Agreed.
DVD version is much better. Just because it has less going on doesn't mean its worse.
I get it, your goal is to say as much wrong as possible today.
