I've said many times I value commentaries, OVAs, behind the scenes interviews, and drama CDs way more than any physical book that doesn't really add much to the show itself.Extras? Complaining about a NISA release with an artbook?

This is why dubs are bad.I like dubs because I can just listen to anime while doing other important things. Helps me multitask. With subs I'm forced to watch the screen.

Lack of dubs are a blessing then.I like dubs because I can just listen to anime while doing other important things. Helps me multitask. With subs I'm forced to watch the screen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1Cuxp4J2OATo be fair, there's a reason why the "drama CD" is still a thing in Japan.
You have yet to give examples. Every piece I've seen from recent show dubs is worse than what we were getting in the era you are even citing.I really don't mean to attack, but really, he/she does. The dubbing industry has changed a lot since the 90s. I think that's where people get this misconception, due to the 90s/early 2000s attitude of licensing things for a quick buck, when Pokemon, Digimon, Dragonball Z were huge hits.
Well, that simply can't be helped. But we can prevent the moral crimes of those who do not speak Japanese (in the case of anime) by getting rid of dubs. The less the better! But if you're Japanese, and listen to the original dialogue while doing other things and don't watch the screen... does that make the original voice track bad?
(I completely understand what you actually mean - you should pay attention to what's on screen if you're, well, watching something - but still, just poking a little fun)
Exactly background noise for when background noise is needed. To be fair, there's a reason why the "drama CD" is still a thing in Japan.

Subs make it easier to just skip through and read the text!

I'm not sure that's the same thing. At the very least, I assumed that drama CDs would be OVAs if no one had to worry about budgets.

Why not go step further and read all animes in wikipedia?
Probably not, since many drama CDs are written as audio works and not designed for visual adaptation. Radio dramas are a different medium from television, and require a different approach.
I watch all my anime by looking at the pictures in Random Curiosity.
Perhaps. A lot of drama CDs are produced before any notion of an anime existed though. Aria has several hours of drama CDs made before the anime was put together, for example.I'm not sure that's the same thing. At the very least, I assumed that drama CDs would be OVAs if no one had to worry about budgets.
It's just like podcasts or audiobooks (please use my audible link, lulz) here though.Exactly background noise for when background noise is needed.
Not using content that was never intended as such.
Why not go step further and read all animes in wikipedia?
People producing Drama CDs set out making drama CDs. OVAs aren't part of the consideration. If they wanted to make an OVA they'd try and procure appropriate funds and take an appropriate approach to make an OVA.If producers didn't have to worry about budgets and were making OVAs instead of drama CDs, wouldn't the content in drama CDs be written for animation? I think there's something I'm misunderstanding.
Barebones releases are the worst because if I'm going to go out of my way to actually buy something it's usually because I really like it which is another way of saying I'd be daft enough to spend some extra money for a better release. Not crazy, Aniplex style money but a bit more.I've said many times I value commentaries, OVAs, behind the scenes interviews, and drama CDs way more than any physical book that doesn't really add much to the show itself.
That's not to say that actor commentaries are really all that interesting, since they're usually just a bunch of people making platitudes at each other, but there are a lot of director commentaries that just don't make it over.
Yamato 2199 actually has director commentaries on each set, but of course they didn't bother to sub those features in the JP release (even if the actual episodes are subbed, which is weird but whatever). That makes me actually spending the 80 bucks per volume to get it seem like a much less worthwhile proposition.
That said, I don't think any anime DVD will have as much as Rightstuf's Aria releases, which have all sorts of video content and interviews. Even Rightstuf's more recent releases have been barebones releases unfortunately.
I still have no clue who's butt that is.
It's too juicy for your average anime bottom.

I'm not trying to say that background noise entertainment is an unprecedented thing only Drama CDs deliver though. I'm just saying that entertainment media should be consumed the way they were intended. It's just like podcasts or audiobooks (please use my audible link, lulz) here though.
I think it's the female MC from Pokemon B/W
Ass detectives.I'm gonna take a good guess and say it's the female protaganist of Pokemon Black and White.
Remember when the SAO OT was created to try and stop it from shitting up the thread? Good times.

Kizumonogatari was my favorite part of the series, I really hope Shaft gives us word on its completion soon.
For me, bad TV exists to be "watched" when playing a game, but yeah, I understand your point.I'm not trying to say that background noise entertainment is an unprecedented thing only Drama CDs deliver though. I'm just saying that entertainment media should be consumed the way they were intended.
(as in anime is intended to be viewed, whereas Drama CDs are meant to be listened to.)
Well, it's like the Nisemonogatari set that Aniplex released. I was happy to buy Bakemono, but stripping out the commentaries because they were too cheap to license them or too worried about Japanese people reverse importing them made that set a no-buy for me. I'll buy things to support them, but at some point there has to be some kind of line.Barebones releases are the worst because if I'm going to go out of my way to actually buy something it's usually because I really like it which is another way of saying I'd be daft enough to spend some extra money for a better release. Now in a universe where budgets are infinite, drama CDs would still exist as there would still be a market for them.
Gundam Unicorn 1
Can't decide if I like Banagher or not yet, but that's okay, 'cuz it took me awhile to warm up to Kamille, too. Audrey is sort of meh to me so far, although I did like her flat out "I don't need you." Also, not a huge fan of the Unicorn Gundam so far, but maybe that's cuz it doesn't look much like a Gundam. However, the music and animation are top notch, and even if I dislike CG mechs as a rule, that odd 4 winged Qubeley-type was a pretty nifty machine. Also: Teehee, Full Frontal.

Like two of these aired in the last five years. P&S English dub is plebeian trash between the mismatched and lifeless voices and the fifth grade reading level translation. This is before even taking into account the mangled audio levels that ruin most of the big moments and diminish the presence of an amazing soundtrack because Funimation has their head up their own butts over their shitty dub. Like I don't really know what to say beyond an unfamiliarity with the original making dubs passable.Of the top of my head...
B Gata H Kei
Deadman Wonderland
Panty and Stocking
Eureka Seven
Gurren Lagann
Haruhi Suzumiya
Lucky Star
Spice and Wolf
Soul Eater
Those series I have watched/am watching in English, and enjoyed. Lucky Star especially I enjoyed far more than in Japanese.
NISA treatment for releases makes up for the barebones releases we get from Sentai and Funimation.

sub vs. dub
Why do they have that weird pallor that CG mechs have around them, then? Hm, maybe my video quality was just off.

S starts doing away with that for the most part. Now it's Neptune and Uranus who do the saving!Video #1: Sailor Moon is a Damsel in Distress because she is always saved by Tuxedo Mask.
Is anime sexist? Pay me 25 dollars and I'll make some videos.
