I don't know if I'd classify the early 2000's as being a time of chunky character designs. I think they look fine, for the most part. If you want to see bad character designs try looking at the sequel which was made in 2008.
That it is happening simultaneously does nothing to make the character less awful.
It amuses me that your first experience with Spike Spencer was in Fire Emblem. Dude's like, everywhere. Also, on the subject of Fire Emblem Awakening, I believe you will quickly identify an upcoming character with a character from that game.
And that is literally all the more I will say about this to you, because I refuse to accidentally spoil this show for you, too.

I see Phyllis in here, but she's not being a douche, probably because she's not working at night. I kinda wish she had some back story in the games much like the Able Sisters do but alas, she'll forever hate her job.

Hilarious shipping, the episode. Lina and the gang go to the Temple of the God of Marriage in order to find some treasure, and in order to enter, they must do so as couples via a randomized selection. So Lina lands Zelgadis, which she and he are both okay with. Amelia lands Gourry, which she's not okay with for two reasons:
And Filia and Xellos land each other. Filia and Xellos' interactions are far and away the most entertaining, but Amelia's terrible situation garners some laughs as the show goes, and the surprising crack pair of Lina and Zelgadis (the guy who once tortured her with lightning magic and held her hostage over a terrible misunderstanding) actually has a decent amount of chemistry.
Oh, and we hear about Amelia's big sister, who, like Lina's, is scary.

Well, I don't really mind as long as it's good. Likewise, I don't have much of an issue with some of the mecha designs being a little weird, such as that Centaur thing, as long as they make for interesting battle sequences on the ground, which is extremely likely. The actual 3D model might make those proportions work out and thus I won't waste time criticizing it. For instance, the custom Gloucesters looked pretty ugly on paper but I liked seeing them in action during the first OVA, so I think making such snap judgments at first glance is often quite misleading.
I got too tired to make more liveblog posts but I finished this. This is basically a perfect encapsulation of everything that the 90s ANIME WAS BETTER BLAH BLAH MANLY BLOOD N GUTS BLAH crowd likes, except with an amazing

in 50 minutes all while squeezing in a revenge subplot, some okay mechanical animation, shitty (non) characters with Geist foremost amongst them. He's a robot caveman with sunglasses but the OVA makes it a constant point to remind you that he's the still coolest manliest motherfucker on the planet.

I don't think highly of this show at all. It has shitty mecha that would probably only be somewhat less shitty without the genre ruining shitty CG, terrible characters, Hirai face everywhere and a plot that means next to nothing.
But this show actually referenced Betterman, and I got that reference. For that alone, I will permit it to live another week in my "shows I watch".

In general, if it's Slayers and it's not the main three TV series, then it's pretty meh.
Man, such a awesome show.. I love how the storytelling like without script just flowing with visual and the audio, so good.

I am not sure what Hagani has to be jealous of in relation to Snafu. Even if Hagani is a mess there are aspects of it that are somewhat worthwhile. I am trying to think of a single thing about Snafu that is good. Style. Character designs. The characters themselves. The voice acting. The music. The story. The animation. The recurring monologues. The dialogue. The setting. Snafu is incapable of doing any of these things in a way that could even be interpreted as half decent.

I believe they were essentially let off the hook because a) Kayaba was blamed for everything and b) proving their crimes wasn't feasible. I think this inability to hold people responsible for their in-game crimes is one of the big reasons why the authorities are pushing the "everything that happened in SAO, stays in SAO" line, because if everyone was open about who they were and what they did in-game, all kinds of grudges would end up carrying over to real life.

Kirito was into MMOs in a big way for many years before SAO ever started, which was something Sugu never really understood and a part of the reason why they grew apart. She would also have been exposed to his impressions on SAO specifically during the beta-test period (and I'm guessing he loved it).
So when he was trapped in that world and cut off from reality entirely, to Sugu it probably seemed, in a way, like a natural extension of the existing pattern of "MMOs stealing her brother away from her". She decided to try to understand what he saw in them because that was the only way she could see of feeling closer to him in that situation.

Well, I think the "omg flying" thing is just her way of appreciating the more general appeal of VRMMOs, ie. their potential for freedom and new, exhilarating experiences that wouldn't be possible in real life.

Classic supervillain mistake. When you become so powerful you're basically a God, you get overconfident and start being careless. He probably set it up that way just to taunt her. To be fair, as far as he was concerned there wasn't any way for her to find out; he knew the game system well enough that he could be sure it would be impossible to make out anything at that distance. It's just that Asuna had more experience of the game system than him, and so was aware of the loophole that distance blur isn't applied through mirrors.

I found this slightly more convincing in the novels, where it's made clear that ALO avatars' appearance (and I think voice, too) are generated completely randomly, so any outward resemblance to real-world Kirito would be completely coincidental. In the anime, his avatar doesn't come across as looking much different from his normal self, and of course they keep the same voice actor for convenience's sake, so it becomes a bit of a "how can you not see that?!" situation.
I'm actually quite morbidly curious to see how they'll handle this in the next arc if they make another season of the anime, since
it would be even less convincing for Kirito to be mistaken for a girl if his androgynous GGO avatar is still voiced by Matsuoka Yoshitsugu...

Well that was ANIMAL CROSSING! Actually adapted the source rather well, which is unusual for VG adaptations. A slice of life with hints of romance, friendship, and UFOs... and Engrish Gulliver.
Well that was enjoyable overall, although seeing Wii at the end made me remember that I barely played City Folk, not like I'll play it at this point.

Yes it bothers me because Sugu is a little kid. It's one thing to objectify a full grown lady. It's another thing entirely to do it to a 14 year old girl. It passes from fanservice to absofuckinglutely creepy as all fucking hell in no time flat.
There is no universe where Suguha's fanservice should be considered an acceptable thing. She's already a terrible fucking character who singlehandedly brings down the already stupid show a whole fucking tier, then they have to go and stuff the camera down her breasts. And it's not even, say, MJP's harmless "Hey Tamaki has stupid large boobs duh huh huh" it's HERE STARE AT THIS BARELY OUT OF PUBERTY GIRL'S NAKED BREASTS FOR A MINUTE AS EUPHEMISTIC WATER SLIDES DOWN IT.
It crosses the line twice. It's one thing to do fanservice. It's another to spend lingering shots of a naked child's breasts.

I'll take it to my grave. Godawful shitacular child character's breasts having suggestive water spill down them for a full minute on screen is wrong no matter which timeline you wander into.
Suguha dying of a sudden and horrible stroke in the next episode would be the only way to fix this shit.
