Ugh, I just watched the second episode of Oregairu. It's so ugly! And the animation is so bad too! I want to like it but it's hard when there's not much to like other than Hayami Saori.

Time to watch Date A Live and Oreimo.

[Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon R] 048

Natsumi/An has had like five minutes total of screen-time and she's already a much better villain than all the emo fucks from the Dark Kingdom. I believe in filler?

Thankfully, it seems like the bad art problems from last episode were already rectified. It will still take some time to get used to the new music, though. At the very least
they've already cleared up all the amnesia bullshit
, so I'm back on board again!

It's because of your pretty face, Naru-chan.

Goddammit Toei.

An is such a cutie. But then again so is Naru. For some reason I stopped the show one episode into R.

Blood-C 2

So here seems to be the general formula for this show so far:

[first 19 minutes or so]

SNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE.

[last 4 minutes or so]

Decent fight scene against monsters that end with gratuitous blood squirting and spilling everywhere.

Seriously. You think cute girls doing cute things is vapid? No, THIS is vapid. Like, that scene in the cafe...they quite literally talked about nothing. Like, for real. Absolutely nothing. And lets not forget gems such as "Having (dessert snack with a French name) in your mouth...it feels like something." Wow. How do even write that with a straight face? I understand that it's supposed to feel like a kiss as Saya's friends reveal later on, but goddamn, could you have possibly written it any worse? Seriously. "It feels like something". Why do we even read hacks like F. Scott Fitzgerald when we have this?

So...this show...I would probably consider dropping it if the next episode was as much of a snoozefest as this if this show wasn't so notorious around these parts. We'll see where it goes, I guess.

May God have mercy on your soul

Welcome back ya crazy loveable bastard!

Don't pretend that this is any kind of "homecoming" worth being welcomed back over :lol

Okay, Novid joke over, at least until we know more about Gangnam Girls and I actually do begin plotting violence against Haim Saban. Only wonzo will like this new avatar but I finished Bakumatsu Gijinden Roman last week and damn.

If you need someone to assist in carrying out revenge against Saban, I'm here. They absolutely butchered one of my favorite franchises in the US, and I'll never forgive them.

Mirai: "Kamile, do you think love can bloom, even on the battlefield?"
Kamile: "No, that's impossible."
Beltachika: "WHAT ABOUT MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

BWAHAHAHA MUSICAL LOVE MONTAGE.

All this will make it that much better when Kamile kills Four, because Kamile kills everyone and everything he loves.

Oreimo Episode 2

Oh wow, this episode was awesome. Easily one of the best episode of the series. The comedy was top notch and the characters were a lot more likable than usual, Kyousuke in particular. He... he actually had good retorts! A more aggressive personality! And more importantly, he was actually hilarious! He should always be like this. Too bad he'll probably go back to being the spineless MC next week.

It was also the first time in the series I noticed such a strong resemblance between the two siblings. Their reaction to the game were creepily similar. If Kyousuke played more date sims, he and Kirino would get along very well. Surprisingly, Kirino was not annoying at all this episode and dare I say she was kind of cute towards her brother.

Ayase was the best this week though. I take note that she seemed pretty happy when she thought Kirino wanted her to become her girlfriend. Two yuri tease in two episodes...
Also she was scarily good at being a yandere: dem eyes, they will haunt you forever.

Also dat Wita plugin lool. Sony spending that advertising money.

Ayase's expressions were the highlight for sure:

Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko - 01

I think I'm getting tired of this kind of show. Its not doing much for me.
However that OP is :cajun :cajun :cajun and I like the art style. Character design reminds me of that recent show with the retarded girl and also Mayo Chiki. I guess that makes it alright.

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet Episode 2

As I gathered in the last episode, this show is really something else when it's feet are on the ground. Literally. Having left a chaotic universe of overly busy CG space battles and laser beam light shows, this show really starts shining, and it makes me very, very glad that this is where it's going to spend most of its' time. It really hits the ground running here. I really like how they've handled the language barrier. It exists as a real barrier and a factor in the escalation of the conflict that arises from first contact and frames the episode, and it's handled in a rather deft manner.

It's also nice to see that they don't really linger too much on the science of the fiction. When it happens, exposition feels like how it should - a natural extension of conversation without being too obvious or intrusive about its' intentions. To this end, Red and Amy trading what they know about their respective worlds with each other was a really great way of framing the information introduced for the audience's benefit.

I'm pretty late to the party with regards to talking up how well done the characterization is, but it really does stand out. No one is doing anything in transparent service to an overarching plot - everyone has their own perspectives and motivations, and it's reflected in how they conduct themselves and how they want to resolve the situation.
Red doesn't seek reconciliation with the locals or act on their behalf because he feels a particular attachment to them - it's the only way he's going to last on what's effectively an alien planet. It's nice to see that kind of pragmatism and rational thought prevailing within the plot.

I also have to say that I still really like how the show looks. It doesn't really do a fantastic job blending CG with hand-drawn elements, and this shows most notably in the water (for which I can clearly recall a few rather cringeworthy scenes), but as far as actual animation quality goes, nothing really seems to have been compromised thus far. Characters express very well, and movement is pretty naturalistic. And even if I can't in good conscious cite some as particularly outstanding as the majesty/scale is kinda broken up by the CG ocean, there's some good work done in the backgrounds. But I think my favourite thing about the production is how it uses colour. The bright, distinctive colours and lighting really help with the visual personality and identity of the show. The character designs are really gelling with me as well.

I really, really enjoyed how they illustrated the vast disparity in power and force that exists between Red and the world that he's found himself marooned on.
It's almost chilling in the efficiency. It's clean, surgical, bloodless, and effortless. It's over in less than a minute, and the implications of that are made clear. It's rocked the boat in a remarkable way.

Something about this show has clicked like a show hasn't clicked for me in a few months. I'm really eager for the next episode.

As an aside, Chamber is amazing.

Arghhh!

I just watched the latest episode of Gintama and I guess it's over, AGAIN!

FFS. The on-again, off-again nature of this anime is vexing. Especially when it comes back on-air and they decide to just show a bunch of repeats half of the time.

If they are going to bring it back they should have a solid fucking plan as to what they are going to release and let it last for at least more than a year. The way they are doing it now just seems to be insulting the fans.

Sunrise are busy animating the movie and stuff!

Forgive me Studio Pablo, but this show has the most impressive background art of the season.

If last week's episode was promising for its faithfulness to the source material and its technical excellence, this episode is promising for its ability to expand upon the original material and actually improve it in some ways. Turning
the fall of Wall Maria
from a couple of pages in the manga to a full-blown setpiece was a really good idea and should pay dividends in the future. Similarly, all of the original material with the refugees,
and the genocide disguised as an attempt to retake the wall
, was much better served here than in the manga, where it was only mentioned in passing. In particular I like that Armin was given a more concrete motivation for joining the military. The production value continues to impress; I feel like even the still shots look good because of the art direction and the high-budget background art. And it's not like they're being overly abused, I think; all of the most important scenes are given the animation they deserve.

And has been mentioned, the ED is absolutely excellent. One of the rare shows to have a great opening AND ending.

Something I mentioned earlier is that this doesn't feel like a mecha show at all and the way everything is designed seemingly reinforces that(such as the design of the mecha itself). It feels much more like an interesting take on a time travel or first contact story and showing the differences in technology. It's like what would happen if a soldier from modern times landed in the medieval era with all of his weapons and gear. The final scene struck me as something like the hand of God coming down to smite your foes. Even the way the scene was filmed such as him floating above everyone else.

Well, if the heart of a mecha show is about mecha on mecha or mecha on equally-strong-foe combat it looks like there couldn't possibly be any of that in Gargantia due to the sheer difference in power between the sides, so I agree with you. I was also reminded of the start of the conflict in ∀ Gundam where the moon forces just decimate everything else.

There's a possibility that the plant monsters arrive on the planet and Red has to defend Gargantia from them, I guess. Not that I expect it.

I think it's pretty obvious that
his bro-captain is going to come back, after Ledo has acclimatized himself to Gargantia.

Can't wait for the CG goodness!

Hentai Ouji, Stony Cat, etc. Episode 01

As expected the production quality was really average even right down to the painfully typical OP but the main draw that's making me stick with the show (for the time being) is the source material which is pretty much the only thing setting this series apart from other highschool romcom LN adaptions. I really like the initial set-up which is kind of a mix between Liar Liar and TWGOK which leads to some genuinely humorous scenes. It's just a shame that
Youto's whole facade thing only lasts for the first arc
so I'm not expecting a whole lot out of this adaption after that.

At least I found it much more entertaining than RomCom SNAFU which I've dropped so now I've got this taking over my guilty pleasure watch for the season.

I suppose that perhaps later on in the series part of the Human fleet turn up and end up and threaten to do something kind of cliche like take over the whole planet at the expense of the humans living their and Ledo ends up battling to protect his new homeland. Or something.

So much Hayami Saori in the last hour! Between Oregairu and Oreimo, I think I've heard more of her than I have in the last few months.

Also, the Oreimo episode was definitely funny! Very entertaining. It was a lot better than Date A Live, which didn't know whether it wanted to be serious or funny, and Oregairu, which was pretty meh overall.

It's Avatar, man.

Although I don't think it'd be the entire human fleet; just another mecha, fighting for another fleet would do.

This episode had me in stitches. Kirino's lewd face when she was playing 'Love Touch' was priceless as well as seeing that emotion transfer over to Kyousuke once he gotten his hands on it. Manami you tattletale, docked points for you!

I think the conflict will be psychological rather than physical; I can already see the people from Gargantia being afraid of him and the God-like abilities of his robot. I really don't think this will end with him being cheered on.

SNAFU vs Warawanai Neko.

kayos90

Tragic victim of fan death
Warawanai Neko was way more entertaining than both of SNAFU's episodes. Though Neko is a light novel adaptation adapted by JC Staff, things can get real awful real quick with that combination.

Imagine if Sakurasou was adapted by JC Staff!

I legitimately really wanted to like Oregairu too but the show was giving me nothing to work with. Might pick it back up later if something interesting enough warrants it but that's not looking all that likely.

I legitimately enjoy SNAFU. I haven't seen neko but I find the philosophical points appealing for SNAFU.

I don't know how much it will play into the plot of Gargantia but Chamber did mention that Ledo's robot is only running on reserve power.
