[Valvrave the Episode The Second]

This was really, really dumb. The entire script, all the set up all, all the drama, all the romance and all the twists. It's a complete package of nonsense that almost makes me thing they're trolling the audience because no-one could seriously write this.

I don't really want to go into any of the specifics because you should really experience it for yourself.

So I'll be tuning in next week.

I think most people here don't like it, faux style blablabla. < valid point

I Absolutely love it though especially the red ones <333

Valvrave the dumb.jpg Oh Jex.....

Finally, a show that surpasses Code Geass for beautiful trainwrecks.

Saint Seiya Omega 53

This new season is just downright awful.

You are watching it as well? Its 100 times better than season 1 already with Seiya in it. Not to mention bringing back the cloth in box form. Koga is less annoying and more mature now.

I still think I'm getting my hopes up too high but I hope Omega proves me wrong.

It's far too early to call that. Some of the off-the-rails nonsense in Code Geass was so successfully bad because it was built upon a more serious edifice that had been developed over several episodes. It wasn't all dumb all the time like Valvrave.

You know, this show could be really scary if it wanted to. There's this scary part on the plane where the captain is replaced by a man with a bag on his head whispering die and it turns out the crew are all crash test dummies, and its legit scary, except that Keita is goofy and his antics defuse any fear or tension a scene can hold.

It's a bit frustrating, really.

O..kay... considering some of the pathetic stuff you've done that I've seen, I'd say that makes the two of us. I never said what I did was right or wrong. I only said it's a reasonable reaction. Nothing more.

Well, this is what happens when Sunrise realizes that's exactly what the masses want!

It might get more serious at some point but they've already revealed their hand.

Yeah. I assume there are no streaming services for Anime within Japan that would I think ease piracy rates.

There are lots of anime streaming services in Japan, and also traditional rental video stores, including rent-by-mail.
I use Japanese streaming services when local streams aren't available.

I personally just thought it was kinda funny since none of that information is particularly hard to find. To be honest, I was also disappointed since I was expecting something a bit more substantial. :(

Certainly there is room for a much better article rather than just a list and saying yeah its crazy expensive. Even just a comparison to non Anime disc prices in Japan would be better.

Regulus Tera

Romanes Eunt Domus
[Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon R] 054
Idol culture and magical girl culture = converging ever since 1992.

Rei has a surprisingly good voice. But wait, Usagi, Makoto, Minako, and Rei got their own special episodes for their new power-ups, but Ami's power-up was introduced in an episode about Usagi and Mamoru taking care of a baby? Whaaaat?

See thats interesting. Are the prices higher than similar US ones?

Given the need for those high prices on discs sold I kind of expected there to be little in the way of rental/streaming/used markets to maximise the number of people buying anime on disc.

Sephiroth has never looked more like Fabio. I'm starting to think Regulus was right and this is a show for girls and has nothing to do with giant robots, guys.

It's a show with robots and a lot of elements for girls, yes, but the series gets pretty interesting later on and mecha still get to do some cool stuff.

Quite. Even if I couldn't say for certain after the first episode I now feel confident in declaring that Sunrise are delibertalet constructing a stupid-twist series. This is fine for a couple of episodes but I don't know if this will remain entertaining over the long run. The problem with basing your entertainment around stupid twists is that the only way to keep the audience entertained is by topping the ridiculousness of your previous twist, or else the effect wears off. Eventually you reach a point where you just can't entertain via the twists if that's all your show has going for you.

One Piece 408-426

Picking up from where I left off with the last arc, my worst fears have come to pass. Splitting up the crew was a massive, massive mistake. Luffy can't hold the show on his own. It's the entire crew's interactions with their world that makes it interesting. Amazon Lily and the parts of Impel Down I've seen have been sort of boring. Impel Down in particular has been super disappointing. Even with all the cool twists, the plot has been really straightforward and uninteresting. There's nothing really to it. All the badass buildup to it has sort of been squandered. It's really sad. Also, Impel Down has this

I cannot begin to describe how much I despise this design. It's just painful to look at. It's everything that's terrible about Oda's art. I cringe whenever she's on screen.

It's going to be a long rode trudging through all these episodes until we see the whole crew again, unless they have some crazy interesting stuff up their sleeves.

On a positive note, the Luffy vs Magellan fight was freaking awesome. That's the kind of fight these arcs have been missing. So badass, yet dramatic and tense at the same time. I was kept on the edge of my seat throughout. That's good since before the fight I found Magellan to be sort of a terrible One Piece villain.

I still need to watch Geass, too. But uh, that could complicate things, because I tried to watch an episode and found the character designs sort of repulsively anorexic.

So, we've got 4 or 5 on board for a Geass rewatch already. Hmmm, maybe we won't wait until summer after all. We'll see. If I feel like there's enough interest by like tomorrow night, we can start hashing out potential watch schedules.

Between this and the fat jibes, Mayaka can't catch a break.
Mayaka would look better with longer hair.

And if she were fat.

Sorry Nodoka, but Ritsu belongs to Mio!

Man Yui and Ui are so cute together (in a sisterly way of course!). Their relationship is just so heartwarming that it kinda makes me feel bad for not being close with my own sibling.
There's not much I can say for this episode. It's good, but not amazing. I agree with you on Yui and Ui.
Funny you bring up the three, Mio Ritsu and Nodoka as that pretty much happens in the show, only in a different order.

So much shipping material, so much moe~, definitely my favorite episode so far.

Of course, Mitsu OTP is still at the top.

So I take it you really like Azusa? She's a fine character, but I think she doesn't really reach her full potential until the second season.

Given the need for those high prices on discs sold I kind of expected there to be little in the way of rental/streaming/used markets to maximise the number of people buying anime on disc.

Most Japanese anime streaming services work a bit differently than the North American ones.
For currently airing shows, they're free for the first week, then go into paid rental archives after that. There's not much in the way of HD, although Bandai Channel has been experimenting with HD.
Most of the time there's a week or so delay relative to the earliest TV broadcast. Streams on the same day as the earliest TV broadcast are rare.

The only all-you-can-eat subscription one is Bandai Channel, and that's a relatively recent development. It's 1000 yen/month. This is mostly for back catalog stuff since currently airing shows are free and delayed regardless.
The other services (along with some of Bandai Channel's catalog still) use the old-school rental style, where you pay to stream an episode or batch of episodes for a certain number of days. Like 200 yen for one episode for 48 hours, or 3300 yen for a 24 episode series for 30 days.

That's just the computer-based services, because that's all I really pay attention to. There's of course stuff for smart phones, dumbphones, PS3 (PSN), ISP-based PPV, etc. but I don't know much about those.

Okay, Tamaki, or the walking pair of tits and mouth, has just usurped Boss, the mechanic with massive breasts and a freakish head, as my least favorite character. That she exists only to be funny (which MJP isn't very good at) and provide fanservice (all of which is tarnished by Hiraiface) really hurts any hope her character might have. I've no problem with unashamed fanservice, Rin-ne did it just fine, but unlike Madoka, Muginami, or Lan, Tamaki isn't a loveable character. She's just a blob with boobs and ass.

The Failure Five really function as one awful, five-headed hydra where four of the heads constantly and simultaneously react to whatever the fifth (usually Shinn Asukalike) says. That said, it was nice to see Quiet Girl and Hero Guy have a conversation that allowed the two of them to diverge somewhat from that five-headed mass. If, down the road, the main five are permitted to be their own thing, this whole show might be good.

If it does that godawful four heads reacting to the fifth thing for fifty episodes this will be a truly awful show, though.

My reactions to MJP are best described as mixed.

I still liked it. I enjoyed the "They killed her so I will kill them all" aspect of the episode. Haruto is a pretty interesting character for someone I expected to just be the Sora to L-Elf's Riku. Also I utterly despise Q-Vier. Like seriously, I cannot understate how much I really, really, really hate that character already.

Anyway, this show doesn't seem half bad to me so far. Wish the Valvrave wasn't a terrible CG mecha, though. I blame ReBuild of Evangelion for this stuff.

Okay, this A-drei guy is insanely awesome. I will now judge every episode by the amount of ridiculous "L-ELF!!!!!" screams he gets in. Seriously, it was just glorious.

Wow, I checked out Hataraku Maou-Sama! PV when it was first announced and it's totally different from episode 1 in terms of animation, scenes, character designs, dialogue and art. In fact the PV look better, I wonder why they scrap it in favour of a crappier version.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X55cjjQNEJg&feature=player_embedded

I don't think the first episode looked crappy though, but all scenes were way shorter than in the PV.
I say it's a pacing thing, although I don't know why a Studio should produce two versions of the same scenes.

Are there any other cases where footage from an anime PV won't end up in the final product?
