Spring Anime 2016 |OT2| Justice is Over!

New Blue Exorcist TV anime coming in 2017.

I find this really difficult to believe, given the quality of the two voice tracks I heard in the trailers.

Happy with the news, I found the original enjoyable

As for the second part if you remember I was of the same opinion as you and was totally skeptical of the super favourable reviews. In a way I am happy I was because I'm really enjoying the experience now, and I was surprised by how much tension there is in the story.

zero time dilemma is really good even if you get the sense you're just watching animatics they polished until they shone most of the time

New Rewrite PV. It features scenes from the "Moon" route (route unlocked after you clear all other routes in the game), the Common route, and what looks to be anime original content featuring Kagari (so, the new "Kagari route"). I can only hope we get enough of the Common route to include all of the most surreal scenes.

EDIT: Watching it again...and one of the route endings? I still have no idea what they're going for here. I guess they could do Common->new Kagari route->Moon and have the last part basically serve as advertisement for the games re-release.

Edward you fool. Time to man up and kill bruh! They both called you out on you week "no kill" policy and look where that got you! It's a bad deal those two thugs picked up the stone instead of Ed, but we'll see how this disaster situation turns out..

For an anime themed around classical composers, I had really hoped for better musical arrangements. This sounds one step away from a preset tune on a cheap kids' electronic keyboard. Maybe I can at least hold out hope that the non-Mozart arrangements will sound better, since a different arranger is assigned to each composer.

Still, the show itself looks fun. Sugita Beethoven and female Liszt for some reason.

I wonder if its a reboot or will they pretend the filler didnt happen. Im only on vol 10 or 11 but the direction of the manga was much better.

I don't know anything about the Blue Exorcist manga, but according to this tweet the new anime will cover the "Impure King arc", whatever that is.

My only fear is that they capped yet another Key VN to 13 episodes, so it's going to have to skip a lot of the VN material. Rewrite is said to be the largest of the Key works, so how is it only 13 episodes and Clannad is almost 50, Little Busters is almost 40, Kannon is almost 30. It just sounds like they are going to rush through the Kagari route and skip through a LOT of material.

Also, has anyone even picked the show up for Simulcast yet? It starts Sat with a 1 hour episode....

Crunchyroll has Rewrite.

Also it's not adapting any route so I don't think you have to worry about material being skipped. It's doing an anime original route that's not in the VN.

In interviews it's been stated that this is going to be covering an anime original route, so I think it'll skip all five of the normal routes and also the final route. The head writer of the VN is supposedly involved in overseeing the scripts and writing the new content.

Thought so, but it wasn't included in their earlier announcement.

So, they are the skipping the entire base VN and are going to follow the Kagari route exclusively?

Either way, it's Key, so I can't wait. I just wish they would've done a full series with 24+ episodes.

I have no idea how they're going to execute on any of this in a single cour. Just introducing the characters and setting is several episodes. How do you get to content from moon or do a Kagari route (a character with a ton of things to explain about) in that time without being rushed to hell?

Wow. Drakengard wasn't good when it came out. I played it then.

I can't imagine how bad it feels now.

Probably the same. Bad games don't tend to get much worse. Just funnier.

I'm like 90% sure Drakengard is supposed to be a frustrating and shitty game to play because its a game where you murder tens of thousands of people for next to no reason and Yoko Taro is an asshole. Well it starts off as "REVENGE!!!" but then eventually you just murder people because thats all you can do anymore.

Also it came out two years after DMC1 but still feels like a PS1 game like Nightmare Creatures and with aerial combat i would describe as "Like Lair but worse"

Yeah all the games are pretty jank

I think anime original ending will conflict with a lot with the content of the impure King arc. Unless they just cut that content out but it would be weird but I guess they could make it work.

I expect what will happen is that the new anime will ignore all of the previous anime-original content and just stick with the manga. That's not an unprecedented situation.

You know, the announcement for the new Blue Exorcist series also states that on page 56 of the mag there is a list of the staff and cast for the new show. Too bad whoever got the mag early decided that the only thing people needed to know was... that it exists. Lol.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

:p Wonder if they will talk about it a bit at AX at the Blue Exorcist panel. I enjoyed the original a bit, even through the second half ish when they started moving away from the manga had some pacing issues.

Well wonder how far they going to go with this one.
Be cool to get to the illuminati stuff.

I just hope its not an 12 episodes single cour season :(

Also Im prepared to shell over over $150 for such a beloved franchise please license it aniplex.

So I just finished catching up on Kiznaiver and Re:Zero due to me getting into WoW again and also dealing with helping a friend in mine in the UK dealing with Brexit last weekend. Anyways I'm here again and new OT to boot.

Kiznaiver - 12

It pains me to see the misgivings I caught on this show during mid-season has manifested to the point of being the focus of the show's ending/this episode which turned out to be an average/okay ending but ultimately dissapointing.

To clarify, I enjoyed this show purely on character interaction with the exception of Katsuhira and Sonozaki who are both bad and dull characters that don't bounce off each other in a meaningful manner. On top of that, the whole Kizna System plot was the misgiving I caught early on in that I pointed out how ludicrous and stupid this aspect was in terms of logistics and rationality. I hoped the show would forsake this plot device and focus on what made this show good from the start which was the character interaction, however we didn't get that.

So with this episode we end with a heavy focus on Katsuhira/Sonozaki whom both I couldn't give a shit about but on top of that we have Sonozaki trying to justify the stupidity of the Kizna System plot device which frankly turned me from not caring into mildly annoyed.

Overall the the show is good. It could've been great if it focused more on character interaction (which we all thought was going to happen ala episode 3) instead of its silly plot device.

And for you in particular names2hard4you (yeah I'm calling you out haha), this show isn't even at the same table that SNAFU is.

Re:Zero - 13

Wow that escalated quickly. I really enjoyed the physical/emotional beatdown Subaru received here, however at this point the show is in dangerous territory as it can turn into a show that is average/worth dropping or a show that is fucking great, I've faith in WhiteFox and hoping it's the latter but we'll see.

To elaborate, Subaru
being arrogant/cocky and digging his own hole marks a new low for the character to the point of him now being unlikable, however this serves as potential for him to grow into a stronger character. The whole time loop aspect exponentially increases that potential but on the same side can further plummet his character just as much. If the next time loop starts right here right after his fallout with Emilia I forsee an enjoyable watching of this arc on Subaru building up his character, however this really depends on how this time loop resets. If Subaru decides to kill himself off willingly to just get back in Emilia's good graces then this show will faceplant in that Subaru turned from a momentary unlikable douche into a psychopath.

Aside from that, it's not all doom and gloom in this episode as Felt came back and it was great to see her diss the nobles and promote anarchy (as silly it was).

Eh the beginning parts of Blue Exorcist are alright, but it gets really nice after when Rin is revealed to everyone of being a son of Satan (manga wise).

The series been one of my more enjoyable series to read in the last few years, and is my main exorcism/supernatural theme fill. Very much interested of seeing where they go with this new anime,
need to see Lucifer!,
and I am excited to hopefully see Kazue Kato at AX!

In terms of execution? Heck no. And I said as much back then. What I did say is that Kiznaiver has what SNAFU didn't: an ending. SNAFU is an unfinished experience as much as it pains me to say it. The character development from season 1 to 2 is fucking great, and not a lot of shows manage to do it in a way that is satisfying to watch and appeals to your emotions as you watch it.

Kiznaiver is one step above SNAFU for me in terms of delivery and how much fun the whole ride was, putting a definitive stop to the whole conflict and events that were introduced from the start. SNAFU will definitely go back to being at the top when I get my 3rd season/OVA/movie and I'm shown WHERE we are taken from where season 2 left off.

I understand that season 2 is a marked improvement in this regard, but season 1 of SNAFU is super ugly.

Season 2 certainly elevated the series in all regards I agree. Although there was this sort of "charm" to the show as it aired, as soon as I watched season 2 and went back to an episode of season 1, it just looked off lol.

I'm a bit unconvinced over the events of the episode but that relates to the show's thematic choices, I do get the gist of it which matters more for me anyways. Rina is having concerns over her identity as a "rock" idol especially after learning that Natsuki is gathering her own rock band(rather the production company is) and keeping in mind her own unit is an odd combination. On the flipside, Natsuki herself is having concerns of whether she should continue working under a constrainted environment, in other words, whether she should weigh her sense of satisfaction over actually getting to do something supposedly cool or what she wanted. While both of them were worried they also looked up to each other in reference which metaphorically seemed like they were leaning on to each other with their backs. I make that specific metaphor because the show touches on it in the episode more than once.
SGjkxCT.png

In Rina's predicament, Miku isn't someone who she can lean on to for support although Miku does notice her discontentment. Miku can't do much about it and if she did, she'd have to change the way she is.

In season 1, Rina questionably says "if you think it is Rock, then it is" - surprisingly enough, towards the end we see that she didn't speak those words lightly despite her countenance and tone she is indeed serious about it. When Miku raised concern about her behaviour (owing to her concerns) - Rina clarifies that she is part of Asterisk because she chose to be and that if she thinks that it is "Rock" that is enough. While that sounds great, now it is a bit unclear why exactly she was so worried through out the episode when she declared that. I'm assuming that she either had an epiphany or it's something that isn't clear until she said it out loud. I'm incling to the latter because such dilemmas are not unusual.

And looky, she admits her failure as a partner in making Miku worry

Incidentally, Natsuki hears that and understands what is more important: about what she thinks is "Rock". To Natsuki her constrained or company driven environment was not "Rock" - she drops out of the band.

The wanna-be Rock idol is satisfied with her choice of a "Rock" band while the real Rock idol isn't happy with her actual Rock band - the show isn't pressing on identifying what is Rock or what is not but that what you think about your work matters, regardless of what it objectively is which can seriously make or break the whole job.

I like how im@s is not heavy to take in but there's so much to it at a deeper level.

"Yes, I can."
I lost it when Kennosuke got a better mark on an english test than Yukina. Lots of other fun moments as well.
Great training camp episode. I'm also still amazed at how consistently great the character animation is, because it's really good.

Things are possibly going down next episode, judging by the post-ending scene.

Okay....the flashback of female Kei talking to MC Kei is interesting to see. Look like it's causing more issue on Kei than anyone else for some reason. Like the ghost of female Kei want MC Kei to die and join them from the look of it.

As for the two guys (Ryuuji and Hajime) from the previous episode, they secret is out as they now know they're not who they're are. Even so, they manage to get away from the team even though one got injured from the escape (more of that later).

Yea, for some reason, Mika have more trust on MC Kei which is odd to watch but I guess after this incident she have more reason to trust him over the other people. Kinda funny as MC Kei throw her out of the window from the tall building and ask her to get herlself ready to use the suit. She manage to be fine at the end of the episode so, guess it's good.

The other people in the team start to realize they got fool around from the two guys and now working with MC Kei. I don't like the old man trying to find a way to solve the issue without shooting a gun which we know won't work based on what we know about Ryuuji and Hajime from the crime they commit.

For Kei teacher, she got kill at the end of this episode. Not saying much as she is the 1st one who want to kill Kei even if mean she want to stay alive and at the end she felt sorry for what she say in the beginning and literally try to fight back against the two guy by slashing Ryuuji on his forehead which end up her getting kill. This suppose to be emotional somehow as MC Kei freak up from it and then got piss and shoot at them.

Overall, an okay episode. You got to see the team member start to change side and side with MC Kei. This will get weird as they suppose to kill him in the game if they want to win. With two more episode we will see where the show will take us now. I am betting more people will die and MC Kei will need to kill Ryuuji and Hajime by himself somehow.

Oh forgot one more thing. One guy snap and now want to take down the team as he can't handle the stress. Would be fun to watch if he can continue fighting at all.

I want to single out this episode because it really stood out. It's probably the best episode I've seen of anything from this season.

Unlike a lot of previous episodes, this one didn't indulge itself as much in comic excess. Instead, it used the emotional connection forced on the characters to explore Honoka's past and her problems. The flashbacks to her time with Ruru, and her grappling with those issues, allowed the show to indulge in symbolism, editing, and color design that felt almost... Ikuhara-esque? There were so many creative scenes here, like the memory of them working on the manga in her bedroom, or the visit to Ruru's family's house, walls covered in photographs.

And then all that animation.

So many shows have used dark clouds and rain as a stand-in for sadness, anger and conflict. I really loved seeing how it was used here in a totally different way, established by the wider montage of the city. Rain here is catharsis, openness to others, a willingness to accept pain to feel a wider connection. When Honoka discards her umbrella at the end, it's almost thrilling.

Even if the show can't reach this level again (and that picture Sonozaki looks at is... not a great sign), I'm pretty glad I picked it up now.

Active Raid 4-5

They're goddamn snooze fests. They don't succeed in a campy fun or serious manner.

That said...

Episode 6 is an oddly effective episode. It's campy, but it also tells a surprisingly bittersweet story about giant robots, following your dreams, and time passing people by. The whole episode feels like a lot of genuine effort went into it, to the point where it feels completely at odd with the rest of the series so far.

I mostly saw Kiznaiver as a more condensed/rushed Kokoro Connect so, while I did like the former, I certainly enjoyed the latter a lot more because of how it used several shorter arcs to develop the characters one by one. Then again, KC had two cours' worh of episodes it could use to give arcs to each character, while Kiznaiver had to wrap everything up for everyone in a single cour.

...And I actually haven't watched eps #11-12 yet, but guess I'll be done with the series by the end of this week.
