Square Enix asks fans about if Persona 5/FF15 were out at same time, release hint?

Are you actually going to wait for it to come out in 2017 though, or are you going to import it?

Depends. I'll wait till the US release and see what's been announced concerning a release over here. Besides I might not have that choice and they might decide to region lock it for some random reason.

Don't say that! They might be listening. :)

I have no faith in Atlus and I suppose it goes both ways since they see Europe as an afterthought. I figured the Sega tekeover would improve them and they'd use their established network and connections to publish the game. But Sega appear to leave them be and if anything are wavering on Yakuza 0 over here for whatever reason.

Hmm, a series that's been getting better with each installment or a series that's been getting worse with each installment? A game that got made by a solid team with a clear vision, or something that languished in development hell for a decade?

Persona 5, please.

It is not that I can't. I own all consoles. It is simply how I want to play RPGs and how it fits with my everyday life.

FF XV will not have a Vita version that's obvious (I will have to play it on a home console then, but I hate this for RPGs). I am pretty sure that P5 will have a Vita port. It makes so much sense for Atlus (they work for money after all), and technically the game is nothing special and already runs on PS3.

in case you didn't realize the PS3 is more powerful than the Vita.

"if Persona 5 and Final Fantasy XV came out at the same time, which would you prefer?’

Persona 5. Easily. But since Atlus is a dumb-dumb and won't port their shit to PC, if FFvs13 (er-"15") comes to PC day and date, and isn't a shit port unlike your previous efforts, Square... I'd pick that up over Persona.

The game runs on PS3? Ick. That should be the deal breaker for everyone saying Persona in here. Last gen trash needs to go.

But Persona 5 is originally a PS3 game; only last year Atlus/Sega agreed to make a PS4 port. The likely reason it was delayed this year was to add more to the PS4 version and make it 'better looking' for that one. If anything, the PS4 is the reason we can't play it this year :l.

But yah, the PS3 is a piece of crap and has horrid looking games.......great point there :l.

I should stop posting in this thread X(.

so true

P5 easily. P4G and P3P were more enjoyable than any of the FFs I've finished (4,6, X-2).

If they are out in the same time frame, then we're going to be in one of the best JRPG months in a long time. Glad to see the genre coming back in the AAA space.

Luckily, the majority of people outside of Japan have never played a Persona game, so XV will still sell much better if they're released at the same time. Especially considering Atlus doesn't know what cross-region release is.

Still need to play persona 1-4 so that I don't miss any important plot threads.
Persona games have common monsters/abilities/items, but each mainline title has a story and cast unrelated to its predecessor. Until 3 and 4, the combat systems also varied from title to title.

So you don't need to play 1-4 to get any plot threads for 5.

Persona 5. Oh , i live in Italy nevermind. :(

( Region free i love you )

Such a vicious cycle for Eurpoeans. The game wont be released as early in the us so most fans will import, since it appeals to the type of gamers prone to importing (mode hard core gamers) the effect is sales in NA get a boost and sales in the Eu when the game does release are worse. This then leads Sega to conclude the interest isnt there and P6 gets released first in NA again.

I don't see how SE is "scared" of P5, I just see this as SE figuring out when FFXV should be released. P5 being the only notable JRPG in the summer release window.

Honestly they can release FFXV alongside P5 knowing it will sell more.

Also, I've changed my answer to Final Fantasy VII: Remake Part -1/7- Escape From Midgar.

why would this be a deal breaker?
Persona fans have been enjoying persona 4 on ps2 since 2008. And, to be frank, Persona 5 on PS4 will probably look a lot better than a lot of other jrpgs on ps4.

Funny, XV was originally a PS3 game too, but what it has become definitely couldn't run on a PS3. I find it hard to believe the PS4 can handle it at 1080p/60fps

this thread damn. The idea of Persona eating Final Fantasy's lunch is hilarious and awesome to me. I dunno if the FF brand has been crapped on enough over the years for that to be possible, I mean I played FF14 with a bunch of weirdos that kept talking shit about lightning returns then bought it anyways. But P5's gonna be huge.

I just CTRL+F'd every page with 'Persona' and almost spat out my drink - has GAF become weeaboo heaven?!

Persona 4 Golden is a legit 5/10, dungeon design is astrocious and the whole edgy anime character shtick is embarrassing. Okay, the UI is hard - but the rest? Y'all get blinded by your affection for 2D anime characters that are as flat as their character portraits. And now you want another one of those basura Social RPGs (can't believe I'm even typing this)?

Pass. Try again. Or better yet: don't.

FFXV originates from the brilliant mind of jeux-auteur Tetsuya Nomura and will not only sell boatloads of PS4s in Japan but start the age of cinematic RPGs paired with both hyperrealismé and masterful game design. Yes, the last demo was lowkey rough around the edges but that's because it's a game that demands everything from the consoles. I prefer avantgarde open-world action-RPG gameplay to linear, turn-based corridor moé bullshit at any time of the day.

Shame on all of you tbh

And as others have said, FFXV will have a WW release, whereas P5 probably won't hit the US until the fall/winter 2016, so this question only really matters in Japan.

Mupod, you played a pigtailed big girl in FF14 that wore bears all over herself

I don't think you get to call other people weirdos

Persona 5. Not because it'll be better in every way imaginable, but FF15 will probably be SE biggest disasters since vanilla FF14 or that shitty movie that nearly bankrupted them.

Why does Final Fantasy get such a bad rep? One kinda bad game out of 15 great games isn't really a bad track record. If you think the company that invented JRPGs is scared of some company that still makes games for the Vita (lol) I don't know what to tell you.

Agreed

It really don't matter how much the FF brand may be damaged, FF is still powerful enough to crush any other jRPG, regardless of quality or anything at all

Despite my once monumental hype for FFXV, I'd go with Persona 5.

I wouldn't be surprised in XV were moved to the first quarter of 2017 at this point. 2016 is a big and crowded year as it is, and Square wouldn't want to risk another financial disappointment after Rise of the Tomb Raider.

I can't imagine it being more of a disaster than XIII.

I think you're being too optimistic.

Final Fantasy VII: Remake Part -1/70- Escape from Sector 1 Reactor

Agreed, It's absurd to think that Persona is gonna outsell FFXV, even with how bad the FF brand has been since the PS3.

I'm sure P5 will be the best selling Persona game to date especially since it's a cross gen game. It's gonna be amazing for sure, but Persona as a franchise doesn't have the legacy or pull that Final Fantasy does.

Personally I hope they have some release separation I want them both to shine.

Lmao I'm done

I would say both because I want both but being in Europe my hand is forced, I'd have to get FFXV first because P5 will take a year to some out compared to NA.

SE was badly mismanaged last gen and frustrated alot of people. All that will go away though if thier upcoming lineup is as good as it looks.

Not with the way Atlus USA and Atlus Japan are communicating with each other currently.

I doubt Atlus USA has any idea when this game will come out Japan or when they'll actually be done with localization.

Probably one of the worst posts i've seen in a while.

Also said by someone who doesn't even know what Persona is.

Persona's appeal has nothing to do with its graphics potential and seeing how many nose hairs you can see zoomed in to the character models, and everything to do with its style and what it does best.

That wasn't the only thing they asked apparently

The survey also asks fans what they find most interesting out of Persona 5, with the following choices:

Because it’s a JRPG
The world setting is interesting
The characters are interesting
I’m a fan of Atlus games
I’m a fan of the Persona series
The promotion caught my interest
I heard about its popularity

LOL so weird. Hype for Persona 5 has to be pretty high for SE to be asking this stuff.

Persona, and I'm extremely likely to play that endlessly before I'd want to pick up another JRPG. My PS4 may well be found by aliens in a thousand years with the Persona disc still in it. That said, if XV gets ridiculously good reviews and has incredible impressions I'll probably cave and get that as well near release. Otherwise I'll wait for a $40 holiday sale.
Surprised they're so scared of Persona.
It's not that. They understand that people who are going to pounce on Persona are much the same people who would be day 1 purchasers of FFXV. If they were to release, say, immediately after Persona by a few weeks it'd hurt their pre-order numbers a bit. Even if they launched before, Persona fans are quite the dedicated bunch who might hold off on paying full price for a game they wouldn't spend as much time with. This is exactly what they're trying to ask players about. They want to make a Venn diagram of the consumer base.

For maximum hype, XV needs to beat the standard fall rush of annual titles. Even a week or two to itself would do wonders, which probably means the end of September. They're trying to see that, if Persona happened to be closer to their window, what would it do for hype, pre-orders, mindshare, etc., and if so, what's the latest they could stand to release without running into different problems.

OH MY GOD JUST GIVE ME PERSONA ALREADY! And Square, where's our damn FFXII HD? I'd day 1 that regardless of Persona!
