Square Enix asks fans about if Persona 5/FF15 were out at same time, release hint?

While it doesn't look like it,Will persona 5 be that sort of 'reboot' going from P4 and 3 ?

They are trying some new things atleast, but no, it seems like they will try and keep the 'style' Persona 3 and 4 had, because it did bring them much more success than the first two games did, as good(and bad) as that approach was at the time.

I just CTRL+F'd every page with 'Persona' and almost spat out my drink - has GAF become weeaboo heaven?!

Persona 4 Golden is a legit 5/10, dungeon design is astrocious and the whole edgy anime character shtick is embarrassing. Okay, the UI is hard - but the rest? Y'all get blinded by your affection for 2D anime characters that are as flat as their character portraits. And now you want another one of those basura Social RPGs (can't believe I'm even typing this)?

Pass. Try again. Or better yet: don't.

FFXV originates from the brilliant mind of jeux-auteur Tetsuya Nomura and will not only sell boatloads of PS4s in Japan but start the age of cinematic RPGs paired with both hyperrealismé and masterful game design. Yes, the last demo was lowkey rough around the edges but that's because it's a game that demands everything from the consoles. I prefer avantgarde open-world action-RPG gameplay to linear, turn-based corridor moé bullshit at any time of the day.

Shame on all of you tbh

Thanks. I thought I was alone.

Well, since they asked, I'd totally prefer the next instalment of the greatest JRPG I've ever played.

Persona 5, of course!
And that greatest JRPG was Persona 4 Golden! =)

I'd get FFXV later and cheaper though!

As has been said, the situations are different. P5's struggles had to do with company bullshit outside of the team's power, which they continued to chisel away at while that was happening around them.

Versus' issues on the other hand was the overambitious incompetence of Nomura before he was finally told "enough is enough, you're off the project", which led to a total rewrite, a combat reboot, and a bunch of other stuff that involved building shit on top of Versus' hollowed out corpse. Development was internally and externally a giant clusterfuck, whereas it was just external with P5 (based on what we know).

I thought that for a good part of the generation since the reveal in '06 that the versus team was preoccupied with FF13 and then the project for put on ice for a bit later on?

Also, Nomura did oversee the release of 4-5 kingdom hearts games and TWEWY in that period.

A+

I'll definitely pick up both if they release at the same time, no question.

With that said though, I think I'd play through Persona 5 first before starting up Final Fantasy XV.

THANK YOU!

Square for some reason has this fascination of pitting their games against others. Although this is probably done just for kicks.

Anyways, Persona 5.

Even if he is, his post is pure, unadulterated truth.

And this comes from a guy who absolutely LOVES Persona.

I can't really see how its truth. He's basically making fun of people who ignorantly attack Persona fans for being 'weaboo' cause they like anime aesthetics and anime type games with a turn based battle system.

Do you personally think its fine to do that?

No matter how much one may enjoy FF, attacking something else like that just because its not to your personal taste isn't right.

Some people just aren't so hype about what FF15 looks like it is bringing to that table and prefer Persona 5's approach based on what they've seen. That's not a crime.

You don't say.

Just thought i would make it clear to those not in on the joke. People really think like that as has been made clear from a lot of posts.

I think it's all good fun, yes.

Persona 5 without a doubt, my most waited game in this whole damn generation!
cant say im not curious about how the story of FF15 will shape with this new approach, but open world less my excitement :/

FFXV. Never played a persona game, so I'm not sure I'd be into it. XV Does look fun though and I'm dying to explore that world. Been trying to get my hands on Versus XIII since 2006. Of course I'd want to get my hands on it day one.

I took the survey and choose xv. P5 will be fun and I enjoyed 4, but it'll have to be on the level of the p2 games for me to even consider buying it over a new final fantasy.

No contest, FFXV easily.

I would've played P5 had it come out in what is a barren moment for me right now. But after P3, P4 and Catherine, I don't expect good storytelling from Atlus (especially since Atlus seems to always tell its story the same way), I do expect good gameplay, though if they still rely on elemental weakness exploitation....it can get REALLY boring. Boss fights tend to be good though.

You honestly think the likes of FFXIII trilogy and FF Type-0 has better story-telling than Persona 4?

Please tell me you were joking.

Edit: I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. There are people in this world who actually likes Justin Bieber over John Lennon.

To me FFXV it's like SE looked at Xenoblade and went "whoa! big creatures, huge field. Looks fun, let's do that" Seriously who didn't think that FFXV took a lot of cues from Xenoblade in those trailer with the huge expansive fields populated by big ass monsters.

Final Fantasy was always one step ahead of curve, now it seems like they are playing catch up, to fucking Monolith Soft of all studios (shows how much as a studio Monolith Soft has grown since Nintendo bought them). Now those questions about what fans liked about Persona...

Does SE has a clue what they are doing? It all seems so aimless. This constant switching of staff and directors, it doesn't give the series an identity. With Gooch and Kitase you knew what to expect, but now Toriyama and Tabata... It's like the series has no identity anymore.

Personas has its identity, Dragon Quest has its identity, Tales has its identity... Can't say the same for FF in a long time. That's one of the reason why people are skeptical, no one knows what to expect from this game.

The ideas for FFXV having an open world were in stone long before Xenoblade came out. These ideas come from the game in its Versus days.

The reason the game seems so aimless is simply because they are now being more transparent about it than ever, in a time of development where things change rather than stay consant. The demo is a perfect example of this. Sure, people finally got to play as Noctis after all these years. However, it was basically on a few of the core ideas the game would have. In reality, the demo is a fairly dry and bare version of what to expect in the full game.

In regards to identity, I don't think one can say Final Fantasy exactly has one as clear as other franchises. With every mainline game taking place with a new cast, new universe, and new gameplay, it makes it harder to describe what Final Fantasy's identity is in comparison to something like Persona which at times has shared characters and settings/universes.

Neogaf loves Persona,

apparently my gf played all FF games. I didn't even know she played games. So Square Enix as long as you throw a solid game... you'll be fine. Release them Drake style, back to back. Make it a JRPG summer.

BTW f them both, gimme dragon quest.

Did you play FF12? It has all those features before Xenoblade.

FFXII came out before Xenoblade.

Persona V. So hyped.

While I'm excited for many upcoming SE games (Dragon Quest XI, DQHeroes 2, FFVIIRemake, Nier 2 etc) FFXV just isn't one of them.

FFXV. I'll play and probably enjoy P5, but dungeons in 3 and 4 plus managing the school life made me not clear any of the previous games.

XV, which is surprising since I have low expectations for it.

Atlus games and their stories in general have just sort of fatigued me at this point. The P4 spinoffs and SMTIV definitely didn't help either.

If Persona 5 has the same random dungeons like in Persona 3-4, then it can GTFO.

I did see a lot of variety for the dungeons in the trailer so hoping this time the battle and dungeon exploration is actually fun instead of a chore. I do like the Slice of Life aspect of the game, and it is easily my most favorite part of it, aside from the characters.

I'm sorry, but how do you not know your own gf plays games? Do you not talk to her? How is this even possible?

No talk about interests/hobbies?

Just curious. Don't mean to pry.

Persona 5 because Final Fantasy's transition to HD has been abysmal so far even though I kind of enjoyed FFXIII-2 for the 15 hours I played of it. I still see the same awkward animations, characters and writing from FFXIII in the FFXV demo. It feels like the general tone of FF (and the stupid posing) doesn't lend itself well to voice acting and HD so any modern releases will be difficult to enjoy.

I know that Persona 5 will at least be very polished and less corny.
