Square Enix delays Forspoken to October 11

Are you fucking serious? Why the fuck did they announce a may release date just to delay it by five fucking months. So sick of this horse shit. I bet ff16 is definitely not coming out this year now

Game looks bad here's hoping 5 months is enough to improve it but I won't get my hopes up.

Was initially excited to see what they could do with this game but every showing just looks worse.

Good decision. These PS exclusives needed to spread out, and Forspoken could use the few extra months.

P.S. AccountNGT just become a real insider. He called it.

Not going to lie I was excited for this, Until I saw the game play. It had some good elements with the traversal and the combat magics looks interesting, but it looks rough around the edge, FPS and whatnot. Plus, at the moment pretty brunt out of open world game, Horizon, Elden ring and far cry. Hopefully the developers can polish the game as much as possible.

That's the old last minute delay trick in gaming.

The original release date is May 24 according to a google check. That's 2.5 months away. Games go gold what? 4-5 weeks out? Then pressed and sent to stores.

That would mean gold copies would be ready by about mid April.

So Square decided 5 weeks away from Gold they suddenly need 5 extra months for a new Oct date? Its not like a 5 day or 5 week delay. Sounds to me they knew this game wasnt ready. But to keep interest and preorders coming, its best to tell the news close to Gold date than tell everyone in December or January that May isn't a realistic date anymore.

Five months ain't shit so I still fully expect this to bomba at launch.

A shame because it the concept itself and general gameplay mechanics seem promising. It's just that the technical side of things and some of the other design decisions are half-assed.

I think the game looks great and will probably have a good soundtrack. I like the character too.

That's it though. The story, the dialogue, gameplay, the ui... will all be meh at best.

Good, the game definitely needs some work.
Square for some reason thought people would get hyped with this:

Annoying writing, meh visual and what looks like sub 30fps combat.

Am i alone in thinking this looks like a tech demo they turned into an empty game and decided to sell it for 110 euros (deluxe edition)?
Like...i want to like this...i swear i do but it does nothing for me so far.

Fear of bad reviews thanks to Babylon Fall. That's why non-corrupted reviews are as important (or more) as gamers wallets.

They can cancel the game for all I care. Game doesn't look good and no way in hell would I pay 80€ for it on PC.

On the plus side for gamers, this game wasnt even marketed in any meaningful way too. Or maybe I just missed it all. If there was a giant concentrated effort, you would had got tons of preorders from itching gamers.

Just release the game asap and get it out of the way, after this just start on ff7 remake part 2, ff9 remake, kh4, parasite eve 4th etc. and forget about this. Not sure why they think this will sell better than any of the other projects. Watched 1 minute of the trailer, not only the framerates, the voice actress is also terrible. Character design is soso for a Japanese studio, unless mods or character creator is supported, there is little appetite for the main character.

I'm on my own personal Square Enix ban pretty much forever more until I see something to change my mind, Guardians of the Galaxy was an accidental success. *Edit* GotG was a fun game but even deemed a failure by Squre Enix so *shrug*

RIP , its gonna go into a more crowded period and doesnt stand apart on it own merits. Wouldve been okay as a may release provided it's not a broken POS

And reviews would have been astroturfed accordingly. But now with the COMPLETELY corrupted review pool since Pokemon Arceus, there's a huge pressure on medias to be careful, so they had to sacrifice a head and of course it would be for a noticeable game that didn't manage to get proper hype.

So really either you get a huge marketing budget like Elden Ring which had fucking advertisement on TV or Timesquare, putting pressure on the whole corrupted media machine that couldn't go against the grain, or you didn't manage to create enough expectation and hype and your game will be sacrificed at the hotel like Babylon's Fall.

We're living in interesting times.

Hopefully this doesn't affect FFXVI's release window, but we'll probably see once they have the Spring reveal in April or May when that's coming out.

The UFC event on the weekend was sponsored by Elden Ring!

Probably not going to play this. If I try a square game this year it will be ff16. Definitely hitting the 3rd person open world wall with horizon and elden ring. Gonna have to take a break and play that star wars lego game

Anyone else think that you just kinda summed up Square's games these days? They feel like glorified tech demos in a way. Gorgeous but lacking in gameplay and especially lacking in good dialogue.

I liked ff7's adaptation of the combat but I can't get passed the stilted and anime dialogue as well as archaic mission design. Ff15 I liked more than remake but people seem to hate that game now.

I think they've seen Horizon 2 and Elden Ring and thought it would be better to wait until people forget them, if not, probably people would have demolished Forspoken.

Yup, gives me that vibe too. Then again so did FFXV and this is the same team.

It also has a bit of an identity crisis IMO. Some aspects of it look very FF/Square, but then it has this very western character design and Uncharted style banter/dialog. And it's also set in a medieval-ish fantasy world but with a character who comes from the real world and talks "normally". It just has this awkward style, as if someone put female Nathan Drake in Dragons Dogma or something.

I mean, call me crazy, but that looks fine and pretty interesting to me.

Surprised this game ever got greenlit. Looks like absolute trash and it'll be trash in 6 months too.

My guess is they aren't even focused on improving the game that much in this time, but would like more space away from Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West. Enough that they might be willing to forgo any advertising contracts that are currently in place.

Game looks shit, i say delay indefinitely and then shelf it when no one remembers
Too much money spent to do that. This looks like a particularly expensive failure on their part. They can't afford to not release it and try to recoup at least some of the cost and I'm sure Sony dropped a pretty penny on this. Not going to get quite the return they did with Sifu and Deathloop, both games will eventually be on PS+ and so will Forspoken.

Lol didn't want to be another casualty of elden ring ehhhh. But now they run the risk of bigger games later in the year that would do the same.

If they can get the game running at a solid 30 fps at 4K or Dynamic 4K at 60fps, then it'll be fine.

It definitely looked rough...Though I'd argue Stranger of Paradise needed to do the same thing..both tests of that game were terrible to me when I tried it..Gameshare partner on PS5 still preordered it, but ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh lol
