Square Enix/Final Fantasy Legend, Nobuo Uematsu says he doesn't think he's ever going to compose music for an entire game again

Probably the best game composer there is or ever has been. He's a has been. His legacy and influence has and will always be there.

Enjoy your well deserved retirement, legend!

I'm playing the latest Theatrhythm game at the moment and it's so obvious that Uematsu gave the series a musical identity that was quickly lost when he left. As cheesy as Eyes On Me was considered at the time, compared to some songs that came later, it's art. He knew how to keep it simple. Some music from FF14 and 16 tries too hard to sound like "real" music, with so many changes of tempo that so many tracks sound like a mishmash of several completely different pieces. It makes even One-Winged Angel sound far less bombastic.

This man has already done much more than we ever deserved. He should do whatever he wants.

Thank you so much for the memories and timeless compositions.

He knew how to keep it simple.
Simple is so difficult. Uematsu was able to overwhelm you with feelings with only two or three perfect harmonies playing simultaneously. This man understood what music was all about 40 years ago. In a way Kenji Kawai has the same kind of overwhelming simplicity to his compositions.

Definitely my favorite Japanese composer along with Yuki Kajiura and Motoi Sakuraba.

Uematsu is a legend and maybe did more for video game music than anybody else, but I think XII and XIII have some kickass soundtracks that are right up there with Uematsu's best.

A legend needs his rest 🙏

I will forever treasure his Final Fantasy scores. Even with limited audio capabilities he produced some of the most iconic, recognizable and effective music
