They really should have dumped down the graphic settings a lot an release every game also on ps4 which would double the possible audience. I really didn't see something in their games that wouldn't have worked with worse graphics on older consoles.
If they still want to be Sony exclusive, this would have been a good way to still have a larger audience.

Square really liked getting money/support from Sony and Nintendo in return for exclusives. They are moving away from that though.
