Square Enix teasing their E3 booth

I honestly believe that Dirge of Cerberus is the worst game I've ever played. And I'm not just saying that because it's in the current discussion. Thinking about all the games I've ever encountered across all genres, it's the one I look least fondly at.

You haven't played enough bad games like I have.

DoC had pretty cool cutscenes, almost Advent Children like CG quality. That was the only redeeming factor for it to me. I did enjoy the main game as well and thought it was pretty good. Dunno why people hate it so much.

Dirge of Cerberus, Dawn of Mana, or Unlimited SaGa. What's the better game then? :p

All of them have problems.

All of them.

Dirge doesn't know what it wants to be, and thus some of its mechanics get somewhat janky to deal with; or in some cases, you're ignoring one style of combat in favour of the other. Don't get me started on the narrative.
Dawn of Mana's levelling system is asinine, the targetting system blows, and the platforming kind of sucks. The physics are strange. The puzzles are too easy. The soundtrack is good.
Unlimited SaGa treats itself like a shitty casino and gives you rounds of slots to deal with. I think it has the best soundtrack out of the three.

No thanks.

Maybe you should go back to playing FFIV:CC, now that's a better game. :D

Is Shimomura teasing Versus too? Oh man I need E3 to come quicker. It's painfully obvious at this point that Versus will show up in some form at E3.

That game is equivalent to Dirge of Cerberus at this point.

It'll be funny to see you enjoying LR more than XIII-2 once out :D
I'm actually quite positive in thinking that LR will be the most well received FF in years.

Even if that happens to be the case, it won't crack half the sales that 13-2 did.

I bet it's going to sell as much as XIII-2, afterall who bought that title already shown they're the core fan-base of this series and they're going to stick with everything S-E launches at them. LR is also going to be a much better game than the previous one, so the reception will also drive the sales. As much as people here like to think that FF and XIII are dead, fans of FF are still millions worlwide and willing to buy yet another main retail title for their home console this year. With Versus coming at the end of 2014/start of 2015, they also don't have much choice. It's Lightning Returns or Lightning Returns.

Your optimistic attitude makes me want to vomit.

Look, I'm an RPG player and a FF fan. It's from January 2012 I'm not playing a good AAA RPG from Japan – it'll be two years soon – so I can only be but optimistic knowing I'll be playing once again a cool game I waited so long for :)

At this point I wonder if they'll opt for a late push on Lightning Returns, as it seems the marketing has been a bit quiet in the last couple months. All the eggs are in the Final Fantasy XIV basket right now, and rightly should be. While the fate of "the Versus project" can get all the fanfare it wants at a presser or wherever they show it, I think this will be largely FFXIV's show.

From the presentation I was privy to seeing in January's San Francisco event, I don't think that the idea that this is a "Dirge level" game is entirely far off. I think it'll end up being a meatier game than Dirge, but I can definitely see this being a shorter romp than its two predecessors.

If I could choose another game as an analogy it would likely be Crisis Core. Something like a spinoff... just on a console this time around.

ARR is coming out very soon so of course it'll have the stage. Lightning Returns will be TGS's king instead. Even though I expect to see at least one meaty trailer for this E3.

To each his own, I guess. I'll admit that I'm mildly interested in LR, but that's only because it actually looks like it's doing something different when compared to 13. 13-2 was nothing but a shoddy rehash for me.

If they show a new FF at E3 or announce some other Megaton, i expect LR to disappear in the background after these announcements. I don't think many people will care about it, there are only a handful of them that do.

SE clearly has the wrong game for focus at TGS then.

Fixed.

It's SE. You know they'll put LR at the forefront since it'll be coming out at the same time.

Yeah because they love to waste their money and launch a big game without marketing. Sounds a good strategy even for them!
Like I said already, like it or not, but LR is their biggest release for the year, probably more than TR already did. They're going to push it as strong as they can after ARR releases. They can't fail. The fiscal year will end after three months and they'll have to show results to investors. ARR and LR must be successful with nothing else on the horizon.

Pretty sure 14 is the biggest release for the year yo.

Nobuo Uematsu and Masashi Hamauzu are great composers but I'm really looking forward to listening to Yoko Shimomura's score.

I always imagine the 120 piece completed OST waiting to be heard. :(

I think she finally wants to join the Distant Worlds tour! =O

Not retail-wise. Long terms it could be. But it'll not generate profits as fast as LR will do. You also realize this by looking at the release windows, one is set for summer, one is set for the most important period of the year: november/december.

You want to bet? I'm sure that 14 will sell more units than LR in the first month.

Also at the bolded, this would kill sales, not give sales.

Since you love bets, I'll make you an avatar bet that SE will have a megaton that's not FFXV. I'm on the losing side coz well... SE.

K?

K.

I think megaton is sort of subjective though. What you consider megaton and what I consider it are two totally different things.

Something that has potential to crash the boards and cause a lot of people to say "OOOMMMMMGGGG".

Don't get the Dirge of Cerberus hate.

Okay it's not an amazing game by any means but I had fun with it.

I honestly wouldn't mind a DoC/Crisis Core HD collection.

Boards will be crashing anyway. lol.

Fine. But it will cause people to cry, have minor heart attacks, and say "OOOOMMMMGGGG".

Tales of Xillia 2 being localized is not a megaton for me.

I believe that means a yes.

No. You're bet doesn't sound sound.

Megaton: Something that will surprise you.

Or whatever you want to define megaton.
