Square Enix teasing their E3 booth

What else can they call it? They can't call it FFXV without it being properly revealed. They can't call in "the next Final Fantasy" because it's a dead giveaway that it's FFXV, calling it only "Final Fantasy" will be too generic and confusing.

They're using "Versus" as a nickname.

Which is why the perfume just called "Final Fantasy" seems weird.

Edit: Others have just called it "the project/product" btw.

It's not weird.

Interviews mentioning the titles aren't trademarked or written/confirmed officially and they're talking about the game specifically. They can't call it "Final Fantasy" because people will be confused and people will assume a lot of stuff. So using Versus XIII is totally fine because that's what the game is called until now. It's like "Project Natal". People who were interviewed mention "Project Natal" but they don't/can't use Kinect until its actual reveal.

The perfume on the other hand can't use Versus XIII because that name is now obviously a placeholder for Final Fantasy XV. Calling it Final Fantasy is the safest way and it's associated with Final Fantasy especially if the title isn't fully revealed yet (Lightning perfume came after or during the official reveal/release of FFXIII, hence the Final Fantasy XIII branding). Using Natal/Kinect as the same example, if they were to create some perfume about Natal/Kinect before its actual reveal, they won't use "Project Natal", they'll use the generic name which is probably Xbox 360 or Microsoft.

Also worth mentioning, Theatrythym's producer still called Versus "Versus XIII" and also mentioned it was still part of FNC (for people speculating/wanting them to cut any FNC stuff from the game). This was back in July last year.

Nomura also still called the game "Versus" when he said new info would be revealed just recently. Could've still been renamed but eh, not entirely the impression they're providing from these interview.
And what? You expect them to reveal a name change and platform change via some random interview? I'm sure they called Type-0 Agito in interviews after it's internal name change too, it was also still part of FNC.

Well, no, the suggestion Soriku is making, I'm sure, is that they may well have dodged saying the game's name at all. People are using the lack of "Versus" branding on the Noctis aftershave/perfume (it just says FINAL FANTASY) to 'back up' the concept of a name change, after all; this is the reverse.

That said, it's not like a name change to an FF is significant work for them to do, so it could have been actioned and turned around quickly. These games usually only have their names in the opening and ending, and maybe the game over screen.

Just saying because I've taken a look at some other articles and some people haven't actually called the game by its name, just product or project. Sometimes they skirt the name, sometimes they just say it plainly like here. So I thought that was interesting.

Weren't the cutscenes for Versus long done? I mean they look absolutely spectacular but are they still making/updating new ones or done with them?

Back in Jan 2012 Nomura said that the Noctis meets Stella was changed to a prerendered scene and that the cutscene ratio would be 7:3 (real time:prerendered). They're probably still tinkering honestly...

Square Enix to broadcast live at E3

While E3 may be the biggest exhibition when it comes to games, it's a trade event, meaning that unless you're press and can afford the flight and accommodation, you're not getting in - boo! Like most of us then, you'll be watching wide-eyed as the big stories of E3 unfold on your favourite games websites or through idle chit-chat at the water cooler.

But what if you're the self-proclaimed uber-geek, the go-to-guru for all the latest gaming news? You can't hang around to read about the news on websites! Well we've got something that will give you that extra edge so that you never miss out on any news. During E3 (June 11-13) Square Enix will be broadcasting a dedicated video program dubbed Square Enix Presents. It'll offer coverage on all the key titles in our E3 line-up, as well as all assorted collection of interviews and community shows. It's going to be the one-stop-shop for any Square Enix fan!

i really want to see if the coming back of versus is with a solid not distant release date or is
"please be excited for 2014 or years to come " lol

I don't remember Nomura saying Versus at all in the last few interviews. Just "it" or the "title", or things like that.

Granted, I'm reading translated interviews so someone who knows Japanese can confirm.

Sorry for the bump

Just listening to Invisible Walls and the discussion was about 3rd Party at E3. When the conversation went to Square, Marcus Beer said Square have some of coolest games shown at Judges week (which are embargoed) but those games are not from Square of Japan. I hype to see what see what SE has in store for E3.

You guys can listen to E3 discussion here and starts around the 32 minute mark

Marcus Beer is not a fan of SE Japan's games, so whatever he thinks is 'cool' is probably vastly different from what we expect.
