Square Enix's E3 2013 Booth Lineup Revealed!

You and I seem to share a lot of FF interests...I thought the setup was extremely ambiguous and ,for that reason, interesting. I like the sharp contrast of the favella slums to the City at the end. You could tell there is a huge rift among the people of the world.Very interesting how much they delivered with in 4 minutes of the demo.

I agree! And I really like AP too. Part of me thinks that it could be a Type-0 game set in the distant past or the far future. The "Grand Master" (teacher) and what's left of his students after their whole civilization has been destroyed. They all have on red and black. Even the lightning spells look a bit similar.

But it'll probably be nothing :) just dreaming.

Indeed I was, stopped playing in 2008 when there were clear signs that the cap would be raised, didn't want to be in a post-75 Vana'diel.

That's about when I quit. I stopped shortly after Wings of the Goddess launched - I played the expansion for like a couple months, then quit. I was also on Cerberus - good times, good times. Hmm, thinking back, were you in Cato's LS or KoN? Your name is really familiar.

FF that's not Versus? I doubt it. Would be cool since I like exclusives, but I don't see SE giving up Xbox One sales, especially when SE is having some trouble these days.

Yeah, that makes sense.

By deal you mean they've helped with tools, co-development and whatnot in the move to PS4 and will probably pay for advertising... then perhaps.

Something like that! It'd definitely make a lot of people buy the PS4 before the Xbox One.

I see, I was with Cato's and then RTU, when they kicked Cato out. Were you on a hnmls, what was your name?

You probably hated me (or my LS at least) back then. We were not the most popular LS on the block. :P

I was in KoN for a while, then WhirlingWind for the last couple years I played, lol. Oh and my FFXI name was Soraan.

I think people expect too much from Sony sometimes tbh.

Sony kind of needs the exclusives though. Their first party games may be great, but they're not huge sales drivers outside of Gran Turismo and maybe Uncharted. FF would be a nice feather in their cap that would help draw attention away from Microsoft's advertising holocausts.

I thought the whole "co-developing" thing was an exaggeration, and that they were only funding it. That is cool if true though. Can't wait to see it~

I still can't understand how Kitase gave the Director's seat to Toriyama for FFXIII, and still does for the sequels, and seems like he'll do that for future titles. Kitase's games were really good.

XIII was the direct result of what Kitase wanted. The reason he attatched Toriyama to the Director seat was because he and Toriyama agree on the "Interactive Movie RPG" idea Kitase came up with.

Final Fantasy X was the precursor to Final Fantasy XIII. Kitase only half implemented the "IMRPG" there. When X was successful and popular, he decided to go for broke. Despite the feedback they received and knowing linearity was seen as a negative in the west (the demographic Kitase was aiming for).

Your name was Soraan right, I didn't catch it when you quoted me before but I remember your name now, I cannot remember your character tho.

I didn't hate neither KoN nor WW, but Armada was a different story. Most of the guys that moved to RTU actually didn't have any problems with the other LS, the animosity was mainly due to Cato and Sabotender.

I agree. But I hear all the time that "Sony should do this", "Sony should do that" but like...they're not going to do many of these things that people want them to do. Like, they can only do so much.

Thief and KH1,5HDR got me excited.

The absence of Versus, or any Next Gen Final Fantasy game got me curious!

Oh, I totally forgot about Armada until now. That was Kaces' LS wasn't it? lol, I remember Sabotender... Honestly, all the drama between LSs back then was so entertaining. Dragon's Aery could be a very fun place to be depending on who was there.

It's not really that surprising to me. I thought Kitase went to film school and approached gaming from a movie-maker's position all along. Toriyama was originally an event scene director and probably has an eye for many of the same things.

I think Kaces was on his second or third bought char when he made it, in there was also whoever bought Demetrios, and quite a few middle-east players.

Aery's was time well wasted, looked forward to those ~3h there everyday.

Except this time they've really gotten in with Japan early with the PS4. The results will be very clear. On the opposite side, MS doesn't care about Japan like they did at the start of this generation.

We'll see then. I'd like the Japanese uptake to be faster for PS4 than it was for PS3.

They can only do so much, but if it comes down to having no third party exclusives and a bunch of first-party games nobody's going to buy or focusing on one or two big third party games ones, FF is probably a good one to have.

Tbh the FF fanbase will find its way to PS4 anyway, despite an Xbox One version of any games being available as well. It's just what'll be most familiar.

It's a mindshare thing. Microsoft "convinced" Square to bring FF to the 360 not because they thought it would sell, but to weaken Sony's position. Microsoft's entire strategy this gen has been trying to take advantages away from Sony.

FF being an exclusive means something, even if the XBOX versions don't sell that well on their own. It means Sony has at least a bit of power. As it stands, right now they don't.

The only thing im looking forward to honestly is FFX HD LOL. I want a release date and game play!

Since they are having it playable, I suspect we'll get a release date for it. I'm hoping, anyways. KH HD is coming out in September, so it'd be nice if FFX HD came out before that if possible.

I think Friction bought Demetrios at some point iirc. I used to use those 3 hours to do homework or study (in between the pop windows) or depending on the time of day, sleep. lol

All this talk about FFXI has made me a bit nostalgic for it again. I stumbled across some old screenshots (some are from 2005, others are from a bit later): Fafnir, Tiamat - old school Aerial Armor rotation lol, my Paladin, my Red Mage, my Bard. I kinda miss it. But it's just not the same game anymore, and I guess most of the people I played with are long gone now.

Since I am not into RPGs at all, I am more interested in the other side of Square Enix, I am actually looking forward to

Thief --- I hope it is a true hardcore Stealth game

Murdered: Souls Suspect ----- I wonder what it is all about, I hope it is worth my hype

Deus Ex: The Fall ------ Adam Jensen must come back, Human Revolution was awesome, too bad it will only be a trailer at best.

Legacy of Kain: War of Nosgoth ---- I really wish the rumors are true, and we finally get to see another Legacy of Kain title, it's been way too long, I hope they don't screw it up.

I have a friend who can't wait for Lightning Returns, so there is that as well.

Because Nintendo gobbled up the majority of the bulk that made up Squaresoft like a hungry hungry hippo?

They really didn't. Nintendo may have acquired little bits and pieces, but don't think for a minute that Square didn't do this to themselves.

Most of Square's core talent is still there, just being utilized horribly. Or doing nothing, like Kitase.

Kitase doesn't want to do anything but let his life partner Toriyama run amongst the flowers it seems.

The core talent that's left I can count on both hands but half of them aren't doing much these days.

Ito being one of the big ones that should be doing something.

No "PS4 FF" huh and yet again we see thief being mentioned..How much do you wanna bet they are gonna focus on freaking theif instead of Versus..FUCK..

Is Thief that big of a franchise? Honestly never heard of it before it was announced SE was making one.

It's a beloved PC franchise from the '90s that Square/Eidos is trying to resurrect while simultaneously dumbing it down for a "wider audience".

I think you know what's going to happen with it.

I wouldn't say any Thief game did amazing or that the franchise was ever big. It's has what would be slightly more then a cult following, bigger then Eternal Darkness but still nothing above B teir level.

Interesting. I can see where they were going for but here is a question: how was linearity seen as a negative in the west? Most early gen games at the time and gems like Uncharted and Uncharted 2 were VERY linear. Even CoD with its 9 billion sales is essentially walk one line around and shoot enemies.

Rest assured..Toriyama ain't touching the next FF can we all relax now ? :P worry about it when they announce that he is on the helm on the next game.

Honestly, as long as he isn't the writer or coming up with the main story, I don't care if he directs or is the event director. I just want someone else to write that isn't Watanabe or Toriyama.

Not until they put it in writing.

I never want to see him anywhere near another Square Enix game again.

No one buys CoD for the single player.

As for Uncharted, the single player is under 8 hours and usually tightly written compared to FF13's gross excess, so the linearity probably weighs less. However, I don't think linearity in a shooting gallery is considered a negative, but linearity in an RPG is. Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Mass Effect had all come out before 13 hit the market; even Tales of Vesperia, The Last Remnant, Star Ocean 4, and White Knight Chronicles featured less linear experiences, which is why 13 felt mind-bogglingly backwards for its time.

Ultimately if the linear aspect of a game is executed well, it would be forgiven.
