Square Enix's silence about the PC version of Nier Automata

I'm guessing it was delayed a month behind the PS4 version, and they're just putting all their marketing efforts into the launch instead of diverting focus to the other version launching afterward. I'm just happy a Squeenix game is coming out on PC anywhere near the release of the console version.

Not really. They usually didn't announce anything about PC until the timed exclusive deal wears off (some of them even have 'only on Playstation' tag). This is different, they've announced the PC version.

It's the most if not only logical explanation given the complete and utter silence since the release date confusion and Platinum recently saying that it has no info to share.

Could be. Why would they care that much ? Mindshare. It's a game with a certain following on social medias. And marketing deal aren't always about money. It can also be publisher putting it in the forefront of their communication. Best exemple is how Nier Automata always has been absent from Sony's event in the past (E3 2014, Paris Games Week, where Sony had a big presser and Nier Automata wasn't there but at their own small thing and all the other PSX events) while it finally did appeared at PSX 2016... which coincidentally began SE's radio silence about PC version.

Probably bullshit exclusivity dealings. Namco and Capcom seem much more onboard with PC while S.E. is lagging on that front. Wish the ports were even good but based on what I read they seems hastily made without much features.

Edit: Also, lol at the guy saying we should be grateful. You'd have to be one sad fanboy to have such a mindset.

This and also Sony themselves calling the game an exclusive to the the playstation 4 while calling other games console exclusives and such.
 
They'll talk about it a week before release....next year.
 
Don't know why people are assuming a deals in place, if it was Sony would be touting 'Timed Exclusive' plus the fact that Sony aren't majorly pushing it.

I think the PC version is taking longer than expected, and people's expectation was day and date with the PS4 version so after realising they weren't going to hit it they decided to stay quiet. If they had a solid date in mind we would have already heard, I guarantee it.

The only reason why PC got mentioned (for SFV) was due to the whole cross-play support that the game has. Besides that, you never hear about the PC version being mentioned. Watch any trailers or advertisements (even the recent Kolin reveal trailer) for the game and you will only see PS4 being mentioned. Plus, if they didn't allow PC players to play in the beta. They would be complete idiots for not allowing it and cross-play would probably end up being garbage. People need to understand, money talks. Especially when you're a Japanese Dev/Publisher releasing a game on PS4. Why do you think that you don't hear about Death Stranding on PC? It's coming. But Sony wants you to buy a PS4 along with the game for that console. This is the price that you have to pay when being a PC gamer. The end result. You end up getting cheaper prices (Most of the time, better performance) and depending on the game engine, mods.. Another factor too, backwards compatibility

Yes, but it hasn't released yet on PS4 unlike their other games. PC version is usually (always been) announced after the game is out on PS4 (or other consoles), not before.

Sounds almost like it might be the type of deal Sony's timed exclusive indie games tend to get. Can say PC version exists, but that's about it. Usually 60-90 days later and then the game drops on Steam.
 
Why are we assuming Sony secured some timed exclusivity for Nier 2? A sequel to a niche game, I doubt Sony would spend a dime on timed exclusivity.

Nier 1 sold significantly less on Xbox than it did on PS3, this feels more like a business decision than some deal with Sony. I bet the PC version is done but they're going to wait on PS4 version sales flatline.

Didn't they say after the first announecemnt at E3(?) that it was only announced for ps4 but was not an exclusive and that sony had no involvement? I might just be misremembering.

I'd be inclined to lean towards that possibility if it weren't for the fact that there hasn't been any information on or advertising for the PC version since the release date confusion -- not even so much as a logo in the trailers. It's been marketed as a PS4 game and only a PS4 game for the past few months now.

Sony doesn't gate off PC like that.

But now they have announced it for pc and they have been completly silent about it without any logos on trailers, without any release date and the devs saying they can't talk about the pc version in every interview and Q&A.

and that is what this thread is about.

Still, why should PC gamers be grateful for playing the game later while paying for the same amount of money?

If it's true that it's a short timed exclusive, it's gonna be $60 just like in PS4.

Yeah Squeenix really pisses me off with this one.

But i guess that's just who they are, time and time again they show that a if someone offers them a bit of money they happily punish their customers and take the money. (and in this case i bet it's only peanuts)

Before anyone says we should be happy we even get a PC, i would be if they wouldn't have announced that it would launch the same time with the PS4, but they did back at Gamescom, and there are no reasons to believe that it is development related.

After first Nier Automata not mentionned PC, I said it was the PSX version of the trailer and there was nothing to worry about. Duckroll asked if it was okay to ban me if it was delayed. I said don't worry, you can if it's delayed by more than one month, as long as the delay after that month. Basically, I'm now hoping it's not delayed more than a month... and not cancelled :")

Seems like a reasonable move. Announce the PC version so a bunch of pc gamers dont run out and get a ps4 over a lie, but then shut up about it so the leading version can have some of that exclusive buzz. Can't please everyone.
