Square Enix's silence about the PC version of Nier Automata

No, he tried to make me feel better when I was worried. Tune in next month to find out if his trust in Square Enix was misplaced.

After first Nier Automata not mentionned PC, I said it was the PSX version of the trailer and there was nothing to worry about. Duckroll asked if it was okay to ban me if it was delayed. I said don't worry, you can if it's delayed by more than one month, as long as the delay after that month. Basically, I'm now hoping it's not delayed more than a month... and not cancelled :")

Oh boy.

Seems like a reasonable move. Announce the PC version so a bunch of pc gamers dont run out and get a ps4 over a lie, but then shut up about it so the leading version can have some of that exclusive buzz. Can't please everyone.

I prefer this to not even announcing the PC version until it's out month later and I've already bought the PS4 version. This way I know to wait and save some money.

Don't worry, everything's going to be okay.

Well, given that it's SE...

Came to post this

Half the shit that pops up on Steam is like "oh damn now available! we're kinda surprised too!"

When you're a PC gamer you get kinda used to not having release dates for a lot of shit.

It'll come.

It'll be an okay port.

People will play it and post pretty high res screenshots of it.

That's my take. Not really worried about it being cancelled, not gonna be surprised either if we won't hear much about it for a while and then it'll be just there one day, kinda like Danganronpa and Lightning Returns. That's just how normally these things go.

I'd appreciate more information but eh I'm not too worried about it. If it wounds up being a bad port we'll hear that anyway from the PC Performance thread and possibly like three reaction threads about Japanese PC ports that would follow.

Maybe it's cancelled. I mean, look at Death Stranding, they said it would release for PS4 and PC, then suddenly they removed all mentions of a PC release, because Sony will publish it and the game uses their first party Decima Engine.

It's still pre-purchaseable on the Squeenix Store.

But all official sources like their webstore and their twitter still list a PC version

I doubt it's Sony. Sony didn't and still doesn't give a fuck about Nier, I mean they're not even trying to hype or market it.

Platinum: We're going to handle the PC version ourselves!
Square Enix: Sounds good.
Microsoft: Scalebound is cancelled!
Platinum: FUCK FUCK FUCKITTY FUCK-FUCK
Square Enix: Guys, everything OK over there? How's that PC version coming?
Platinum: Uhhhh...

I think it's going to be like the FF games that show up in the Steam database months in advance and then release without much advertising.

Remember when the PC version of FFX/X-2 was actually finished 1 year before the actual release according to SteamDB, then 4 days before its released on Steam they opened the Steampage?

....

Yeah, same old same old. At least this time they got a brief word out before the silence

Death Stranding had a steam page too, and then they stealthy deleted it. It wasn't pre-purchasable though, but still.

Don't think so, or at least that would shake my belief in SteamGAF being consistently on top of those scenarios. Closest thing there was were from the press release and investor brief

This. It isn't a title that's gonna sell a lot. Timed exclusive dlc in a AAA game will do better for them than this. I'm already buying a few copies of this. Lol.

It's SE, they love to milk console users first, and than gain other bucks from double dippers on PC.
FFXV will release on PC too, since all leaks around the game proved to be true, except the PC one...but it's the MO of SE when they manage japanase ip.

??

Would Sony really go about getting a marketing deal for this, I mean not a knock against the game or anything but it hardly seems worth the trouble.
It's hardly gonna sell systems let alone actual copies.

It seems fairly normal for Japanese publishers to mostly disregard PC. Either announce it and remain silent until near release, or stealth release it with an announcement like two weeks before release.

I'm shocked that a character action game with JRPG elements was even confirmed for PC before it launches on consoles. Y'all should be grateful that you're even getting the thing.

We live in a universe where Dark souls 2, 3, tales of berseria, DMC, etc didn't happen right?

Why though? Marketing is an effective tool for every market, why not spend some amount of money to make sure that the audience knows the game is coming out?

Yoko Taro games have a long history with Playstation. PS4 was always going to be the primary focus.

but no it's cleary big bad sony trying to screw over the pc crowd

I'm surprised it got announced for PC at all ahead of the PS4 release given how squeenix usually operates, but I think that was due to gamescom hype iirc.

We'll probably just see a steam advert pop up about it before squeenix says anything again. It's not canceled. They're bringing just about everything to PC now

In this case it's possible they announced the port too early. Maybe they just wanted something for a tradeshow idk.

But they said at the time that it would release alongside the PS4 version. Why would they say that if they weren't sure it would be possible.

Also, i generally would be with you that they just aren't sure themselves and it will release on short notice when they are, but for me things looks a bit different here. After announcing it they were happy to talk about the PC version, but all that stopped some time ago, now it's typically "no comment" or something like this, and the other more worrying thing is that Sony around PSX time started to talk about Nier as an PS exclusive. That also could just be a typical mistake, but after the trailers etc all had a Steam logo after it was announced, this also disappeared in the trailers etc released after that point. The promo material they released for stuff like preorders etc also only listed PS4 (talking about the Squeenix released stuff, it's clear the things on PS Blog etc wouldn't have it.)

That's just a bit too many coincidences to not be worrying.
