Oh man, this is so addicting. Can't wait to try out more slopes...and dat wingsuit!
Finally getting the hang of it, and it's becoming more and more fun. It's feeling like a great evolution of the SSX games.
So I'm down to 1.56.04 on JT2 and I'm stretched thin. It feels like I can't possibly go any faster. Maybe down to 1.55 but that is it. Curse you Dragnet, curse you!
But all in all it have been a blast playing, I actually though I would be among the lowest scoring members but turns out I got some decent times at least, which is good enough for me.
Since I'm already here, how do you guys able to jump out so well out of the rails before the end? There's a ghost that I'm following that jumps a bit earlier than the end from the rails but I try to do that and i feel like my character jumps way too high and I end up hurting my time.
You can press LT and hold a direction to bail on a rail without jumping off of it. You just slide right off and keep going.
Thanks for clearing that up.
I hope they fix the grinding mechanic day one or close after release, every time I grind something manually I feel like I'm playing the lottery, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
I feel the same way. Also can somebody clear this up for terrain grinding? Do I need to hold LT the entire time to stay on the grind, or can I just press it to get on and again to get off?
Yeah man, you're an inspiration.
I'm sure I'll beat your scores...someday.
Haha thanks. I stayed up late last night even though I had an early exam just to beat Dragnet's score and when I came home again the bastard had just destroyed my time.
Is anyone else having trouble bailing out of grinds? Sometimes when I try (mainly on the railing under the railroad in the beginning) I get sucked right back in again and end up losing valuable time anyway. I don't really know what I'm doing wrong.
I don't think you're doing anything wrong, I'm convinced the grind mechanics are sort of broken.

I've been chasing you for half an hour and I just took a second and a half off your time.
SUCK IT BITCH!!! RAGRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
This is what I feel when ever I beat a ghost of someone I don't know at all.
I really feel like this game benefits from taking breaks with it, I've posted some of my best times after sleeping on my progress and coming back first time in the morning.

It got me pretty down, loving how much the game pushes you to be better and better though! It's the kind of game that will create a generation of better gamers.

Yeah, the grinding is a bit difficult in this game.
Grinding is split into two different mechanics. Rails and terrain edges.
Rails are automatic getting onto them, you simply steer close and you're magnetically sucked into them. To dismount, you have to press the LT/grind button and the left stick in the direction you wish to get off.
Terrain edges are not automatic and require you to be very, very straight on to get on them, and you have to be holding the LT/grind button both to get on and to stay on. On terrain edges, letting go of the LT/grind button (and pressing the left stick in the direction you wish to dismount) gets you off of them.
I feel like the grind button should enable the magnetic assist. The developers can leave the auto rail grinds in there, I kind of like that, to be honest. But as it stands, terrain edges are really hard to consistently grind. Once you're on them, it's magic and it's easy to just let go of the LT/grind button to get off. But it's that glaring contrast in difficulty of mounting them that's a bit annoying.
Yeah there is no way I would have the time I currently have if your ghost hadn't been there to frustrate me to do better. A question for though, how do you manage to get away so quickly when you jump out of the chopper? I'm falling behind you instantly and it just seems so weird.
I do a crail backflip (Circle, Triangle?) before I land, gives me enough boost to hit the first flare and following that the first ramp. If you trick well enough over the ramp (and don't hit the little bump just past it) you should have enough boost to get you to the first big drop!
I'm still having problems bailing out of the autogrind rails. Do you have to press and hold triangle (or LT/Y) and a directional button or just press it quickly and release the button again?
How are you guys seeing each other's ghosts in the game and competing against each other's times? I'm always competing against myself in the demo. Do I have to accept some of your friend requests to be able to see your times?
Yeah I think you're pretty spot on, the magnetism to auto grindable pipes haven't given me much trouble, is the manual grinding that has screwed up so many runs of mine.
Yes, you can only see ghosts of friends on your list, at least in the demo.
Ah okay, gotta try that. I've been messing around with some spins when I jump out but the chopper but the boost I've been getting has been minimal.
I'll speak to Mr. Batty about it and see if I can get us any input onto it. Or maybe something that we're missing, perhaps.
I'd really hope it gets changed, however, maybe through a patch.
Remember that flips are always worth more than spins!
Maybe suggest autogrinding on both rails and edges, but make the L2 button a 'turn off sticky' activator that completely removes any magnetism while pressed, meaning we can skip right over rails and edges we don't want to? That'd remove confusion over what you can grind on (everything regardless of button presses), and at the same time allow you to avoid getting magnetised onto everything you go near with a simple button hold.
I can't get gold in the First race. Any pointers? How do I go faster as the AI for gold seems crazy fast.
How do I unlock the 2nd track?
Thanks guys.

Only just found out about the boost button. No wonder I couldn't get gold on the race...oh dear.

Watching this video helped with my time a lot, obviously I don't play nearly as good as him but it helps

And the other stage (bulldog) Is located in New Zealand, just look for it on the globe and you'll find it.
That video helped alot, maybe not trying to do 15 tricks in the air might help. lol.
Thanks for the help.
omg I LOVE the audio in this game

That's actually a really great idea! I emailed Batty about all of this and when I get his response, I'll send him your idea too! An option to simply change the grinding set up would be awesome. Bury it in the options menu so that new players don't have to bother with it, but so that we can access it!
I mainly want to hear from him about what they playtested. I'm sure this is the best way they thought to do it, probably for new players, but I just want to hear the reasoning behind it, is all.
And yeah, once again, the devs are really eager to make sure we're happy with the game, which is why they've been in constant communication. (I've never really seen this level of support and communication with a console release. Ever.) Hopefully we can work something out. c:
Sidenote: y'all already know this, but I'm hyped as fuck right now. 5 more days!!
I do think rails and terrain edges should be treated the same (the way it is now doesn't really make sense to me), but I think L2 should simply be the grind button in both cases. Auto-grinding when you don't want to can quickly get annoying. By requiring you to hold a button to do it you'd get much more intuitive control over when it does or does not happen.
I don't know, I'd rather the game always grinds and the gives me the option not to. I've always found it a bit hard to hit L2 at the right time to grind on the environment, to have to do that even more often would be a pain, for me at least. I think my solution would result in less button presses, having to only hit L2 for brief moments to skip over rails and whatnot, rather than adding complication and having to hold another button as well as potentially face buttons, R2 and the left stick.
About the 153 drops: Are those actually 153 different tracks, or are two different events on the same track counted as separate drops? Do we know this?
(I know many tracks come together and share the same bottom half, but that's not the point here.)
Does anyone have the tracklist to the songs that were played in the demo? There are a couple of songs there that I wanna get but I have no idea what the names are called. Thanks in advance.
Each drop has race it and trick it... So taking out the DDs, that leaves 142 drops. Divided by 2, there should be 71 tracks. Gosh. I really hope it's 71![]()
