SSX |OT| Modern Boardfare

I'm really okay with this dlc :D Got cramps in my right hand from doing tricks but it was worth it. Silver on everything but two runs though. Hard stuff. Used the regular Elise, are there any differences with the retro skins, like new tricks?
I didn't notice any but they do have different stats.

Alright, I'll check it out tomorrow ^^ My only gripe so far is the camera when doing the loops. Most of the time I ended up backwards, going back up the hill when the camera spazzes out... Those technical hi-jinks can really break this game imho :(

Ha, I wondered about that. I bet there's some trick to making it go smoothly, like maybe you just have to let go of the controls once you're in the loop and let it play itself until you're out of it.

I still have yet to get the DLC since I can't find a $10 code anywhere online. Still looking.

Stop beating my scores B-Dex! I swear every time I put up a score last night, you beat it within 10 minutes.

I was just trying for Gold Medals!

The only one I need is Go with the Frow Trick It. It's giving me problems. I'm 9million off the target score :(.

Bah, dropping your combo because you smashed into a tree halfway down The Big Wachowski freaking sucks.

I really dig it though. I always thought the backcountry tracks in SSX3 were the best, specifically Happiness. But you got to have something to break it up with. Which is why this is so awesome. More tracks like this should have been in the game from the get go.

Haven't had the chance to check out the new characters but do they have purchasable outfits that are unique to them or are they copies of the original characters outfits?

Yeah, that and a good angle works alright from what I could tell.

Well I still bought the pack cause I thought in future DLC it might be cool to have those old characters to go back to.. either way I just crushed your record by like 20 mil on my first run... get back at me when you've tried to do better ;)

^^

Ofcourse I'm talking about the Big Wachowski, great track man.
This DLC is really worth it, the only thing they really need to add is the ability to choose time of day, I mean come on :(

I was tricking with a Lvl.7 Eddie. This is so on. :O

I'm confused...

I've just been playing the new dlc tricky event with retro Elise and I built up a 700,000 128 trick combo and when I finished the event with the combo intact I only ended up with a score of 35 million.

Am I missing something?

700,000 x 20 = 14,000,000 + whatever you already had = 35 mil

What's the problem, homie?

Yeah, I've just had the combo system explained to me. I was under the impression that the points would multiply by the combo count.

If only! :-D

This is going to be a lot more difficult than I thought!

Right, the combo and the multiplier are two different things. Which is why you can cash in a 20x multiplier if you are afraid of losing the whole thing.

Using the combo as the multiplier would be too tough, as having even just one extra combo over someone would massively increase your score over them.

But they could do a hardcore scoring mode, where you can have combo vs. score, with the tweak that only unique combos count, and duplicates give you a penalty. Now you can alternate two combos, as it only looks back one for duplicates, but imagine needing complete uniques, or even having to alternate 10 or 5 uniques in a row.

That's the way it should be. I despise the scoring system in this game.

Yeah I said back during the demo that each successive unique trick should have a "Unique trick" bonus added to it in a 5 trick loop. There's way too much abusing of the same 3 ubers in this game.

I fully agree. Watching he ghosts of top scorers in events is a boring switch off of tricks over and over to build up combos and multipliers. Giving a bonus for successive unique tricks, and/or total unique tricks in a run would go a long way to improve the game.

Which reminds me, I want a full ghost replay/watch mode with screenshot mode. In other words you don't control the movement, just the camera around the player and pause/slow motion for picture taking. That way we can load up our own ghost or someone else's and watch and learn for best lines/tricks.

I've just started doing my own thing during trick runs. I won't approach any high scores but it's more fun for me to play and more interesting to see than Black Bird > All You Can Eat > repeatx100.

I'm going to appear really noobish, but there's 3 ubers for everyone?

Normal tricks --> Uber Tricks (Blue Tricky) --> Super Ubers (Orange Tricky) --> Signature Trick (considered Super Uber)

So technically I should've posted "...abusing the same 3 Super Ubers...." Blackbird, All You Can Eat, and the Signature Trick.

Yeah it's Double XP weekend? on a Thursday haha but they are also giving away.... HATS! (Real ones) if you enter their shred with the devs contest.

AndyD

aka andydumi
That is such a terrible way to run a contest. Its disgusting that you have to take a picture of a screen, then email it. They make such a deal of the social elements of this game, and yet they are so poorly implemented. Why don't they have a website, or facebook linking for the game, and web leaderboards to pick the times from. So stupid.

I ended up trading the game in. I wanted so badly to like it, but after two months I stopped trying to make myself believe that I was having fun.

I feel that the SSX dev team was sincerely committed to making a strong game and I give TB and the rest of the guys credit for strong post-launch support. At the end of the day, however, this game feels like a chore to play (at least to me) for the following reasons:

1. This game never shed the "deadly descent" idea of the original trailer. When the backlash occurred, they repackaged the game and stressed the lighter side...but the mountains clearly show the stamp of the "extreme" philosophy behind the game. Death pits and dying (in an
SSX game???) are not why I play this series. More forgiving courses exist but they are few and far between. It's a strange game where only 1/3 of the racing drops are fun to me. Give me Snowdream, Elysium Alps, and Merqury City any day.

2. The "equipment" is gimmicky and adds nothing to the series. I don't want to buy oxygen tanks, pulse goggles, or headlamps. All I want to do is shred down the mountain. The previous SSX games charmed me with their simplicity. This game bludgeons me over the head with forced equipment.

3. Split-screen multiplayer. Didn't realize I'd miss it this much until I sat down with my sibblings and we could only watch each other play. Some of my most fun gaming memories are playing Tricky and SSX3 with my sister. Racing or tricking against her while being in the same room was just a blast. I understand why the team axed it - and to their credit the online mode is well implemented - but this generation's trend away from split screen gaming has been a big letdown.

4. I played SSX3 and Tricky the other day and, despite these games being over a decade old, I was instantly having fun. I don't get this with the new SSX. It simply makes me want to rage.

I'm glad that the DLC returns to the roots of the series, but for me it's too little too late. Having spent $60 by buying this on day one, spending another $8 to get the "classic" SSX experience is a slap in the face. I also find it revealing that the first DLC is a nod to the previous games. Perhaps the dev team sensed that they alienated some of the old-time fans of the series.

To conclude, I'm jealous of those of you (Soultron, for example) who enjoy the game. Like many of us, I badly wanted and waited for an SSX game this gen. The series has changed and while it may seem for the better to some, I can't help but feel let down. Looks like it's back to Tricky and 3 for another decade. :)

Fucking love this new GE system. Making that guap. Double XP still doesn't seem that great. I'll never hit 11.

With the double XP, place in gold or higher and then run the same event with whatever chars you wanna level. You'll get anywhere from 120k to 200k depending on bracket and the amount of people in the run.

Love Mt Eddie, but damn those trees, DAMN THEM ALL!

The trees suck. I remember in SSX3 if you hit a treetop, the top would just fall off. I wished there was something like that in this game as well. Just gracing a tree with your board and ending up bailing is soul-crushing.

You and I are kindred spirits. I really want to love this game - I really do - but every time I play I just end up quitting out of frustration. And while the classic DLC was nice, I think it speaks volumes for how well it's been recieved. I think I'll be trading this in shortly as well and it kind of breaks my heart a little. I love SSX, but this game has some huge missteps.

The dev team has definitely been taking the feedback in, so I hope you don't feel like you've been ignored. The game is polarizing, no doubt, but I appreciate the fact that the dev team is working their hardest to address the concerns of those who've been left out in the metaphorical cold.

Here are some new changes some of the runs in the game. The update is live so you'll be seeing this the next time you log on!

Siberia lighting changes:

Boris, Vapor Trail changed from overcast cloudy to dusk orange
Boris, Big Show changed from overcast cloudy to dusk orange
Boris, Diamondback changed from overcast cloudy to dusk orange

Africa lighting changes:

Meru, Corkscrew changed from night cloudy to dusk orange

Patagonia lighting changes:

Cerro Torre, Last Call changed from overcast cloudy to night clear
Cerro Torre, Vengeance changed from overcast cloudy to night clear
Cerro Torre, Code Blue changed from overcast cloudy to night clear

Himalayas lighting changes:

Everest, Burnout changed from stormy to dusk purple
Chomo Lonzo, Fall from Grace changed from stormy to dusk purple

Himalayas environmental changes:

Everest, Burnout, Race it removed O2 requirement
Everest, Burnout, Trick it removed O2 requirement
Chomo Lonzo, Fall from Grace, Race it removed O2 requirement
Chomo Lonzo, Fall from Grace, Trick it removed O2 requirement

This is now live.

No probs.

The Battman had this to say about the new update:

Todd Batty said:
FYI Siberia looks BEAUTIFUL, got this done in time for it being range of the day on Sunday.
Double XP, awesome/easy tracks, new lighting, Million+ 15-30 minute events, what's not to love? :)

Also, removing the O2 from the race and trick drops is almost like getting 2 brand new tracks.

If you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go shred!

That's great news, I may actually play those tracks again now. They should do the same for the solar panel ones too.

While I appreciate them making these tweaks to lighting I still wish (even though I realize it won't happen) we could pick the time of day/weather ourselves.

Chamber

I dislike the dusk orange lighting. I want original Bulldog back.

Nice to see them remove the O2 requirement. I think even the biggest defenders of the survival element disliked that one.

The solar shades don't really matter to me either. But taking away the O2 is fucking awesome. Everest was a great track hindered by the worst gimmick in the game. Now it should just be a great track.

The survival ones weren't too bad but trying to get medals for trick it and race it in explore was a real pain in the ass for me.
But it was a pain in a good way as in providing a challenge. The high scores are set with the cold in mind and you have to challenge yourself to find new ways to use the mountain without risking too much shade.

The game would be boring if everything was easy.
