All your money are belong to Roberts. That Saitek X-52 Pro is looking better and better. I don't think anything better is gonna get released until this comes out.

I am holding out for a flight stick until release, or close to it. It's still 2 years off

In the aftermath of some of the craziest 48 hours we’ve ever experienced it’s become clear that there’s a sizable number of people that were unable to pledge, or adjust their pledges due to the difficulties with the RSI site. ... The focus of our campaign was, from day one, involving the fans and trying to give them as many options to support us as possible. The last thing we want to do is punish any of you, and so we have decided to adapt our plans and offer a grace period for all current members of the RSI community.

If you have a membership, regardless of whether you have previously purchased a tier, you will be able to pledge at the current prices through this weekend. We will keep the limited add-on ships available through that time for everyone who tried to purchase one but wasn’t able. Everything will switch to the new pricing structure on Monday November 26th.

aww thought we had twelve months

You do, it's just that the price will go up for pledges/ships/etc after Monday. Also some of the limited edition items like the Cutlass (and also possibly lifetime insurance for your ships) will no longer be available after Monday.

Any pledger during the funding will get any add-on (minus the 24h bonus add-ons) at the current price with lifetime insurance until the alpha starts:

Anyone who pledged during the drive or grace period will be able add the original ships, with all current benefits (including life time insurance) and at current prices after the grace period ends

Yeah, forgot to add that the grace period is for those who haven't pledged yet.

I really, *really* want that asymmetrical enemy fighter. But not $300 want. I think I'm done until launch.
I was pretty close to splurging on a bunch of ships, but half the fun is building up from nothing. I'll be splurging on my control setup instead.

Maybe a Mech-Fu Hawken controller. Mmmmm, real dual sticks.

This is still open?

And what do they mean by ship insurance?

It’s open especially for those registered members who couldn’t pledge in the last 48h due to server issues on the RSI site. Those already at that time registered members will get any pledge and add-on at the original price with lifetime insurance. Lifetime insurance means that you will never losose your ship, but any upgrade and cargo is not part of this insurance (you have to insure that separately).

If you were not a member at that time you have to pay more and will not be able to get that lifetime insurance.

I must have explained this a million times in the past two weeks, but there you go ... If you pledge 35$ or more on RSI's site you get (besides the game and alfa + beta access) a space shit with lifetime insurance. What it means is that you'll never have to worry about losing your ship, you'll get it back after it's destroyed. Most likely without all the upgrades you've made to it and without any cargo you were carrying at the time of your demise. That will most likely cost you extra, they'll probably come up with some kind of premium insurance or something of the sort.

Obviously, you'll still be able to buy insurance for any of the ships you buy in the game, but it will cost you. Not too much, but still.

That made me laugh

I was thinking more in the lines of is the ship and insurance only for the MMO like part of the game?

do so.... alpha can´t come quick enough.. need to save for new hardware pronto
You’ve pledged your money
to earn your Citizenship.
Now it’s our turn.

We, the Star Citizen team at Cloud Imperium, hereby promise to deliver the game you expect. You, the tens of thousands of pledgers, have allowed us to cut out the big publisher and build the game on our terms. To let us focus on quality free of the pressure to deliver by a certain financial quarter. To nurture a new original IP. To put fun ahead of shareholder profits.

We, the Developer, intend to treat you with the same respect we would give a publisher. You will receive regular updates about the progress of the game. We will do a show and tell for each major milestone. Your voice will be heard and represented in our development docs and our feature wish list. You will see art and video and learn about how we intend to implement gameplay mechanics well before the rest of the world. The website will be updated and the community will be maintained. Though the limitations of technology may slow us, we will always do the best for you: if it breaks, we will fix it.

There may be delays and there may be changes; we recognize that such things are inevitable and would be lying to you if we claimed otherwise. But when this happens, we will treat you with the respect you deserve rather than spending your money on public relations. When we need to change a mechanic or alter something you believe should be in the game, we will tell you exactly why.

Your support over the past month has been incredible. You’ve done your part, and we will now do our utmost to live up to your expectations. We will build you the game you are dreaming about.

Signed,
Chris Roberts and the Cloud Imperium Team

Can't resist the urge to buy a Constellation, roaming the galaxy smuggling goods like Han Solo/Firefly is going to be so awesome.

I remember them mentioning something about squadrons/guilds, there better be a GAF-fleet :) The Bengal Class Carrier "UEE Believe" and the Idris Class Corvette "UEE Bish"

I'm hoping I won't have too upgrade too much, I have a GTX 670 and Chris Roberts said at the GDC unveiling that the demo he showed was running on a 670.

However I am going to have to get a joystick + throttle for this game. Also considering getting a TrackIR and becoming a full on sim-nerd :p

Already aiming for the Bengal carrier myself. Unless they implement a cruiser or battleship, then I will just go straight for the largest guns.

I'll be there to run combat air patrols and escorts :)

Also if the Idris Corvette (the smallest of the cap-ships) costs $1000, I can't imagine how much a carrier will cost in credits (or real money if they go with a model to pay either ingame or real money for ships after release).

They had a mention of Cruisers before in the unlocks, but removed that, so right now the only capital ships that we know of are Corvette, Destroyer, and Carrier (smallest to largest).

Hopefully they make capital ships expensive, and with high insurance premiums, so it doesn't end up being that everyone and their dog has a cap-ship. They also mentioned fuel and that cap-ships will use a large amount of fuel, so the resource requirement of getting from point A to B in a cap-ship will be much higher than in a smaller ship. Since they have announced tanker ships it seems like some people could make a living just supplying fuel to cap-ships, or supporting the supply lines to their "guild"'s carrer or cruiser.

I think it's really cool that to have a cap-ship you can't just be one person, but you need a whole team to be able to use it effectively. Fighter pilots scouting ahead, flying escorts, mining ships to mine fuel nearby and tanker ships to supply the cap-ship and possibly fleet with fuel.

Fuck this game is gonna be awesome.

Also a little clarification on the whole lifetime insurance for ships bought later in the year.

(From RSI's facebook page)
https://www.facebook.com/RobertsSpaceIndustries/posts/465236810185184

"Michael Gwatney: Question from an existing backer... I'm hoping to add a bomber ($250) to my pledge. Will it only have lifetime insurance if I add it within the next 2 days? Or will it have lifetime even if it add it months from now, since I'm already a backer with several ships?"

"Roberts Space Industries: Hey Michael, It will only be for the grace period."

So if you have already backed Star Citizen, any ships you buy after Monday 26th will not have lifetime insurance.¨

Edit: It seems they were talking about the bomber only being available during the grace period, cause further down in the comments they say this:
"Roberts Space Industries: @Michael and Garrett, Lifetime shipping insurance is Grandfathered for all early backers."

And this blog ( http://starcitizen.ashita.org/grace-period-for-pledges/ ) had this:
Ben Lesnick, Community Manager, further clarified that during the grace period, the limited time add-ons will be available. After the grace period, only the original ships (Aurora, 300i, Hornet, Freelancer, and Constellation) will be available as add-ons. Anyone who pledged during the drive or grace period will be able add the original ships, with all current benefits (including life time insurance) and at current prices after the grace period ends (until Alpha starts in a year).
The grace period ends at 00:00 (12:00am) Central US Time, Monday, November 26th – So make sure you get in by the end of Sunday!

Hopefully they put up a clarification about the insurance and such on the site.

Um... I think I missed something. What is insurance and how does it work in regards to ships you already own? Is it an online thing and offline, it's okay?

It implies that I'm buying something that can be eventually lost :/ (FWIW I went in at the $60 tier)

If you back the project (or have backed) before November 26th, the ships that you got in your pledge will have lifetime insurance. If you have insurance and your ship is blown up, you get a new one (minus the cargo you had and any addons). Without insurance your ship is lost forever. In the game you can buy insurance (for different periods of time) with ingame credits, and insurance will cost more for bigger ships and for more dangerous areas (buying insurance in a sector with lots of pirates and raiders will cost more). They also mentioned maybe having stuff like if you get blown up often, your insurance rates will go up.

So the ship you will receive for pledging $60 will have lifetime insurance, so you won't have to worry about paying insurance for that ship.

That seems kind of unfair. Us Kickstarters will be able to play more recklessly because we have lifetime insurance. I can see myself using my Kickstarter ship for risky exploration and combat and another ship acquired in-game for commerce.

I think people are seriously overestimating the importance / price of insurance.

Lifetime insurance is just for the hull, any upgrades you have (such as weapons, better thrusters) and cargo will be lost. So you will still have to pay credits to refit your ship to get it back to where it was before it was destroyed.

So it's essentially the Eve Online model.

It certainly sounds pretty close to the Eve Online model of insurance. I hope that the developers of Star Citizen try to model their insurance a little bit more on real life insurance. For example, they could adjust your rate of insurance by how often you get blown to bits!

Is there a place that compiles information about the limited time ships? I'm trying to hunt some down but I'm not having much luck.

I hope they expand the multiplayer with an expansion or something. 64 player instanced matches between two guilds or clans, both using carrier groups (carrier, destroyer, corvettes, bomber and fighters) to fight over select systems and planets?

Yes

Very nice. Thanks.

Damn, should've gone for a Freelancer. That looks like a very nice ship to have life insurance on.
You can change it if you already pledged during the drive, and the Freelancer will be available for a year with lifetime insurance.

I had a look and thought the same thing... but then I realised I either have to pay an extra $65 for it, or $110 as an add-on to my current plan. I think $60 will be enough investment in this game for digital-only items, at least for me!

Yeah, they really alienated their audience with that video. Wait, what?
I get it!

Planning on upgrading to the constellation but did anyone notice the read admiral package went from $250 to $275?

Edit: Or, you know, it helps to log in. Now I see the $250 package.

Everyone can still join in and pledge, just for a higher price than before.
