The crowdfunding total continues to overtake milestones, and it recently passed $800 million, and it's currently at $800,767,429. The game also has 5,572,097 registered users, albeit not all of them are paid customers. Many simply create an account to enjoy the occasional free-to-play periods.

Incidentally, 2024 was the second-best year ever for Star Citizen's crowdfunding campaign, missing the record only by roughly one million.

what a fucking scam, cant believe i got jebaited 10 years into that shit, still no squadron 42, quanta economy is never happening, mass layoffs, what a shitty cult in my opinion

At this point i'm amazed at the extent of the scam and the efficiency they developed in pulling all the right strings to squeeze space nerd whales.
Vertical slices and "aychyually technically playable" test demos is all you need.

I'm genuinely in awe.

I wonder if the scam citizen defenders will show up, last major thread they bitched out.
Of course watch out for any curated videos they post, it's literally the same ones each time. It's like they have it on a macro to post.

I always say that Star Citizen is not a game, it's a cult.

No wonder other companies feel they can charge as much as they want, given how many people have paid for this and, even worse, still defend it.

I spent like $50 or $60 on that Kickstarter since the original pitch was awesome and I loved WC and Privateer/Freelancer.

Last 10 years has been basically this:

Although it isn't finished some people I know like it. They jump in for a few hours check stuff out every once in a while. This may or not have an end game, but steadily just update.

This has got to be some money laundering scheme. I refuse to believe people are this imbeciles to put so much moneu into that.

Fools and their money. It's so nice that some of you have given Chris such a good standard of living for the last ten years. I'm sure he appreciates it!

Some people are happy about this because there is at least a game where you can do things, even if it's not exactly a complete or polished experience at this point. Then again, constantly changing the scope while continuing to bring in big bucks isn't going to help with any of that. Almost like a never-ending Patreon game, except several orders of magnitude above that in terms of budget.

I'll just keep waiting for someone to make a true modern Wing Commander spiritual sequel. Squadron 42 looked like it was going to be something like that, I know, but I'm already far too skeptical about the whole project to begin with.

I mean this time next year we might have Squadron 42, right? Right? Of course we dont, and if it does happen to release next year it will be one of the worst games ever.

800 million? Bro tossing $100 bills in the Maldives on some hoes. Game runs like toilet water. I can't believe people actually paid monies for this, lmao.

I don't understand how people call it a scam, it's just broken promises over and over, until they just run away and abandon the game it isn't a scam (imo)

I'm glad Elite Dangerous is making a comeback.

More like jump in for a few hours until they encounter a baffling game breaking bug like falling through a station floor, stuck in an elevator, ship retrieval not working. If you do get lucky enough to be able get in your ship and take off, you get to the mission area and you can't enter the mission building. Reload, get into the building and the elevator doesn't work. Reload, elevator works, kill all the mobs, none of them have the mission item. And on and on and on and on.

Being in the universe, flying around - when it does work - is fun. Don't know if it's a scam yet. It is at the very least one of the worst managed projects I've ever seen. SQ42 was supposed to come out 10 years ago...

Same. Got the $45 starter pack and jumped in at every major update early on. But it's been clear for ages now that CIG has no idea what its doing.

With this ammount of money they could have made Cyberpunk 2077 nearly 4 times and profited off billions of dollars.

I still don't know what this game is.

Is it a MMO, single player FPS or RPG? Is there actual mission or boss fights in it?

As far as i know Squadron 42 is the singleplayer part of Star Citizen which i really wanna play but only when it's finished and good actually.

Oh yea and what they showed of squadron 42 looked awful. For their epic space game, it was an extended turret sequence with terrible acting.

Holy shit that's a lot of money. Are they making a videogame or an actual spaceship?

Never played this but a 'full' release is kinda irrelevant for this.
Look at something like Beamng.drive - it's been in early access for close to 10 years - it will probably never leave. But it is full to the brim with content and gets updates constantly.

I not gonna say this is "scam" but it's seems they kinda lost control of the project they keep getting money so they keep adding things and it just become never ending cycle…….just release the damn game.

Devs need someone like her on their ass to so project can be properly gets done. If you watched the show you know what I mean.
