Oblivion Remastered passes 4 million players

I just meant it won't be the same company developing it

The business deal you refer to is irrelevant since both Obsidian and Bethesda are subsidiaries of Xbox Game Studios
Lol, I always forget (subconscious denial maybe) that Obsidian is MS property know. You're completly right.

Then it should be even easier to make a NV remaster happen...if the will to do so manifested itself of course.

Time will tell I guess. But if FO3 turns out to be another money printing release I'd be suprised if MS doesn't try to force the matter, one way or another.

Yeah well you're generic.

I hadn't thought that it actually might make it easier, but you could be right. I was looking at another way, but I honestly don't know how this shit works.

I like NV way more than FO3 so I'm just trying not to get my hopes up

The Vegas strip in the game remastered would be epic to explore

Damn! I've been seeing more posts like yours and they make me jealous. Hope you have a ton of fun! Game's full of jank, but if you are able to embrace it there's something special there.
Myself, I barely played games from 2000 to 2010. Got a ps3 then but just missed oblivion. Loved fallout 3 but didn't try oblivion

Want to hate but hot damn this is the best remaster I've ever played. Literally looks like a whole new Elder Scrolls game, but retains all of the beautiful jank of Oblivion, giving you the best of both worlds. Currently my GOTY.

Well that's good to hear that it kept most of the charm. And for how much content the game has, $50 is still solid. I heard Unreal 5 could jank it a bit though, so I was wondering about that too

i would like to understand the metric used to define "player", its 4 million players playing the game right now or is 4 million ppl that downloaded the game and played for at least 10 min ???

what does this number means ?

Remakes & Remasters still winning it's just something about seeing the old games you loved with a new coat of paint.

Played just past the tutorial mission and finally outside. I'm impressed. Feels like a new game. But I also haven't played this in ages. I see some old stuff are still there though. Like characters disappearing through doors and I'm sure there's still some stuff like this still around.

It has no meaning which is why it's entertaining to see who uses the "players" metric instead of the financially concrete "units sold" metric

Just logged 6 hours on it today. It's just so fun and addicting to just explore the world. I'm easily going to put over 100 hours into this.

You start the game on any platform = you're a player, there's nothing confusing about it.

It's been 8 years since GP launched ffs.

I think that's (very roughly) around half as many 'players' as Starfield in a similar timeframe, but I would assume at a lot less than half the cost.

I feel kind of ashamed that I'm playing this again and have yet to try Skyrim. I have fond memories of this game on 360. Playing it again is reminding how great the elder scrolls games are. The music is just bringing me back in again.

I'd expect a couple more million to be added to that over the weekend. Much of the audience for this game are casual millenials who work 9 to 5.

These are also the people this unconventional approach to marketing might struggle to reach at all. With how well it's doing I wonder if they might decide it's worth deploying some traditional marketing.

While I'm not happy with the artistic changes( drab lighting and color), the remake itself is solid, and playing Oblivion is one of my fondest gaming memories, so this will be an autobuy. I'm just happy more people get to enjoy this. You had to be there when this thing came out. It also makes me sad we will never have the absolute genius of Jeremy Soule again for Elder Scrolls, and that some of us might not be here for the time part 6 comes out, so I'll enjoy this epic feeling of nostalgic bliss while I can.

gamepass numbers... so nothing to write home about
Hmm, I wonder what the non-gamepass numbers are. I bought it for PS5 and I am re-enjoying the game. I think I have played it more now so far than when it first came out. I have more free time these days.

It still surprises me that a game with this gameplay from 20 years ago, which was already bad at the time without mods, is so successful at full price.

I'm just a bit sad that they didn't go a step further and reworked the combat, the balance is meh, and difficulty just making the enemy 5x times tankier is boring, having to use my fire spell 40 times to kill a bandit on hard difficulty early on sucks.

Will play once mods start appearing, but without mods, in 2025 it just feels too old, and i loved the original game but..

I think you're missing the point. It's a disingenuous comparison. People are still twisting themselves into knots trying to prove AC Shadows was somehow a failure, even in completely unrelated threads such as this, despite all evidence pointing otherwise. I really don't get it.
What constitutes a success nowadays? Is it engagement numbers or sales? Sales should always be the only metric for success for non free to play games, but alas Microsoft is trying to flip the script by saying "4 million players have played this certain game".

Let's be real here. This was a GOTY awarded 94 Metacritic game in 2006. Now it's the same awesome game upgraded with UE5 visuals and gameplay improvements. And for people in the 20s it's literally like a new The Elder Scrolls since they were to young for Oblivion when it released, and the last one they played was released 14 years ago.

There is nothing to be surprised at here. Besides how awesome it is as a remaster. Normally we just get higher resolution and framerates. This feels like a remake. It's fantastic 👌

I don't think anyone expected this level effort. It's a borderline remake at an alluring price point.

No surprise it's selling incredibly.

Switch 2 version should be a no brainer.

Deserved. The game is fantastic as better than I remembered.

Hopefully Fallout 3 is the next remaster. I love it but its so dated at this point

The 2023 Microsoft leaks mentioned the Oblivion remake and Fallout 3. Since we now have Oblivion and everything else on that list has come true so far, I think it's safe to say Fallout 3 is next. Probably next year if I was going to put money on it.

I never played this when it first came out, so Ive went in without the rose tinted specs.

As a game now, it is no more than decent. Its a great graphical overhaul, but the game is showing its age. Very clunky to play, dogshit combat, and so many loading screens it beggars belief - SSD coming to the rescue here!

Having said that, I can definitely see how it would have been amazing at the time of its release, and how people hold it in high regard to this day.

Alas, I've had more fun with every Bethesda RPG game since - Skyrim, Fallouts, and yes, Starfield.
