Looks awesome. I am really pumped about this game. Everything llooks so good i really don't see anything that I can complain about. Even the treasure chests are not a big deal.

Jeez RPGs on the 360 are disc hogs. That must mean there's alot of cinemas.
Early PS1 RPGs were that way too.

I like the elegance of 1 disc on PS2 RPGs.

But all the cool art they can put on the disc faces are nice. Think of how neat that was in ps1 era.

Watched the IGN insider vid, framerate in battles is pretty solid all around. The wierd pausing that happens when Edge does that 3-hits sword techinque bothers me, but it's nothing major.

I noticed the pop-in, too. But the field areas look pretty smooth and the lighting is really good, so I'm willing to forgive the pop-in.

Battle chatter is pretty good, too. I like most of the English voices so far, even Lymle. They don't shout out the Battle Skills names 100% of the time, too.

Ok, the media blackout definitely starts now!

... And it's good to see tri-Ace update their sound effect library!

I'd like to watch the Insider video but I sure as hell am not paying for Insider. :) Does that stuff ever become free? Or does it get posted to Youtube or something?

I'll start cooking up the official thread so I can post it on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Another Helping of Juicy Star Ocean 4 Info
So, the recent 4-page Famitsu article on Star Ocean 4 wasn't enough for you? Fair enough. Here is another huge helping of gameplay details, plus a brand new Japanese trailer, and two new Private Action vids. I spoil you, y'know?

Skill System
Each of your characters has individualistic skills that make them better at certain things. As your characters grow, these skills will increase making your party members each important to your quest in their own ways.

Battle Skills refer to each character’s Killer Moves and Symbology that are usable in battle.

Battle Set Skills refer to skills that you can set beforehand that will automatically aid during fights. For example, Motor Mouth allows your spell casters to chant their Symbology spells faster than normal, while First Aid will automatically recover some of your HP when you take damage.

Action Skills can be used during battle via the Battle Camp Menu to aid in the fight. For example Enemy Search allows you to check your enemies’ stats, while Taunt makes enemies more likely to target you over your allies.

IC Skills refer to skills that individual party members utilize during Item Creation. Some skills will allow you to forge new weapons, while others may assist in synthesizing new items by combining other items together.

Command Skills allow your various party members to perform actions on the field, such as Dash which allows you to travel at higher-than-normal speed, or Treasure Search which will locate the position of different items on the field.

Skill Points
In order to use and increase your skills, you will need to consume Skill Points (SP) by leveling up various skills.
In addition, new to SO4 is Party SP which allows you to increase certain skills that affect your entire party, such as improved battle bonuses and recovered items.

Battle Bonus
SO4 makes use of what they call the Battle Bonus Board. This feature allows your party to increase their spoils after battles by increasing EXP earned, increasing the amount of Fol earned from fallen foes, increasing the amount of HP/MP recovered after battle, ect.

Battle Bonuses are obtained by earning “Jewels” during battle. Different colored jewels give you different bonuses, though each type of jewel must be earned differently. For instance, Blue Jewels are acquired by hitting enemies with critical hits, while Yellow Jewels are obtained by attacking multiple enemies at once. Bonuses are calculated based on how many of each type of jewel you collect, so focusing your strategy on obtaining certain jewels becomes key.

Occassionally the Bonus Board Break may break if certain requirements are fulfilled. For example, one Bonus Break is achieved by receiving a critical hit from an enemy then running away from the fight. Thus it becomes important to watch your enemies’ movements and attack effectively.

These are the various jewels than can be obtained and what their effects are:
Blue Jewels – EXP +10%
Yellow Jewels – Obtained Fol +10%
Pink Jewels – Recovered HP/MP After Battle +1%
Green Jewels – Earned Party SP +1 Point

Party Skills? Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!

Battles sound so enjoyable with the whole jewel system. Looking at SO3, its seemingly a shadow of a game when compared to how feature rich SO4 is.

very happy, finally (after more than a year) got accepted as a member :D

hello all!

i'm all over this come the 19th. i'm more of a wrpg person but the mass effect meets tales of vesperia vibe of this game gets me all excited.

Watched the Insider only video, holy shit the battles. They seems to be totally smooth and fun as hell. God, thank you tri-Ace you are redeemed for SURE.

It might not matter to some, but do we know how the discs are placed in the case?

Lost Odyssey an Blue Dragon had them stacked. :(
There's more to the world than the US, you know. Blue Dragon and LO both had multi disc cases in Australia and Asia.

Indeed. Anyway, why don't you just install one disc at a time? You don't need all three in there from the get-go.

That's what I do. I don't have any more space than that on my piddly 20 Gig anyway.

Woohoo!! That insider video is just what I needed to solidify my purchase. I wish game companies would release some actual battle footage in real time like that before their games come out over just general trailers. Still, i hope there is an option to turn off battle voices.

8.5 on one disc, I can't even download one disc.
I guess its time to get a 120GBHDD

Even though the discs have 8.5GB of data on them, the most I've seen for a game is 6.7 or 6.8GB since MS requires other files to be present on disc, such as dashboard updates and other things for basic functionality for those without internet connections...

Get the 120GB disk anyway... :P

This just seems like such a massive step up from IU. Battles look a lot more hectic. Also, customizable skills set to RT and LT will make combos a lot more accessible (they were pretty limited in SO4), as well as being to switch between character (NPC control in IU was pretty urk) - each with their own custom combos - should make for some pretty cool gameplay.

Whoa, the voice acting in battles is TERRIBLE. Thank god I'm playing this in Japanese. Hopefully it's not worse. :lol
what? the battle chatter in English is awesome. the characters don't shout the techniques all the time, and there are plenty of voice clips.

i think, no matter how good a dub is... people will find it horrible and inferior to the JP dub. the English VA also does a nice job at emulating the VA in the JP version. heck, Meracle sounds a bit less annoying in the US version, because her voice is not as high pitched as the JP one.

How do MP and Rush replenish?

MP is like Tales, after battles you recover a little. Items too.

Rush is from fighting, getting hit and stuff. There might be items to help it recover, but I don't know.

Getting enough blue jewels sounds like it will be a bitch.
Is there anyway to get rid of jewels you don't want?
And does anything special happen when you fill up all the bonus board?
And I guess when you restart your game the bonus board will be empty?
