Star Ocean 4 JP site open. Release Feb 19=Japan, Feb 24=NA, April 24=PAL

Just read from the JP impressions, that the battle tutorial is apparently 15 minutes long. That's a pretty extensive tutorial then. No idea if it's optional... But I guess it is.

i am impressed by the inclusion of a battle training room.

have other jrpgs done this?

i really sucked at the combat in vesperia and could have used one in it.

Getting enough blue jewels sounds like it will be a bitch.
Is there anyway to get rid of jewels you don't want?
And does anything special happen when you fill up all the bonus board?
And I guess when you restart your game the bonus board will be empty?

If it's anything like previous Star Oceans, doign a critical hit isn't as hard as you think.
Besides breaking the board, probably not.
Besides getting a lot of bonuses stacked, nothing probably.
SO3's bonus board restarted/broke for pretty much every reason it breaks here. So most likely, yes.

SO3 Bonus Board depended on how powerful you were compared to the enemies you were fighting... the problem with it was that if the BB broke DURING battle and the % was at 0, you couldn't get it up again in the same battle. SO4 fixes that by allowing you to constantly get bonuses, if the requirements are met, even during the same fight.

Also... Linking bonuses of the same type gives the board more stability and thus decreases the chances of the whole board breaking

Yep, it is indeed a great idea. I hope you can use other characters in it, too.

The tutorial is optional. It's just the Battle Simulation mode which you can access at any time in the game by going to a room on the ship and also from the title screen. I skipped right over it, although I wish I'd tried it because I almost died in my second fight.

also from the famitsu impressions:

1. good loading time
2. enemy can also use rush attack, be careful when u r in the middle of a combo
3. sight in/out + rush is a very rewarding battle strategy
4. cat-girl's attack is cat-like.....:lol
5. girly-man is flexible since he can use both melee and long-range arts

Someone uploaded the hidden PA from the site. It's the Welch one. :lol

Great find and it was a funny one. The animation is great ! I noticed though that there seems to be something wrong with the lipsynch, could be just my computer though, I have been having trouble with youtube lately.

Just saw an IGN thread and noticed the characters avatars and the menu interface on the NA version are CG like, while in the JP version they're anime like. I would've preferred having Star Ocean 4, like an anime ,like the Star Ocean 1 and 2 PSP. Damn, SE for thinking anime won't sell stateside :(

I agree. Can't blame them though. Look at Lost Odyssey. Personally I don't find it superior than Blue Dragon or Tales Vesperia (especially Tales), but it appeals more to a lot of people by default due to its style and more mature theme.

Oh my god. Whoever says that this game have bad animations is a biased retard.

I mean look at the end where everyone looks ad Bacchus :lol i lolled hard, great for a game to have some gags sometimes, and with the roomate addition we will have a lot of 'em :D

Yep, animations look topnotch in and out of battles.

I wasn't planning on getting this day1, but I think I'll get it as a birthday present for my sister, which comes conveniently at the end of Feb. I mean, for her to play the game. Yeah.

Yes, the videos do shows how the battles are going smoothly and with good framerate. Hopefully it will be one of those well polished RPGs with no bugs/slowdowns (IU, ugh!).

BTW I just saw the latest trailer on gamekyo that shows many story parts and character introduction, there was a scene at the second half of the video showing a dead girl looking similar to Reimi. Was it really her?

hm....
SO4 COULD be considered to be in a parallel universe to SO1~3 from an interview with the producer...
It makes no sense...
A parallel universe of a videogame?, maybe another server :lol :lol

IU was barely a Tri-Ace game, the credits are composed of 20ish Tri-Ace guys and about 100 subcontractors. Hell even feel+ is in there.

That game was a complete mess.

there was actually quite alot of people praising IU's graphics before release
Well it wasn't terrible looking... Some of the areas looked pretty good, then the quality drops and you are left with a pretty bland looking game.

Infinite Undiscovery is a flawed yet entertaining game with easily the best battle system since (not surprisingly) Star Ocean 3.

It's not a very long game and barely has any extras (aside from the bonus dungeon) but the item crafting system is pretty addictive and leveling up your characters is rather satisfying due to the cool special moves you learn.

Graphically it is very impressive, more so when you take into consideration that all battles are done in real time with no fade in/out to a separate battle scene AND you're at times joined by other parties fighting alongside you. Music's good, too.

The story is pretty decent but the voice acting is quite hit and miss.

Overall, it's worth it especially if you can get it cheap.

Dont know if this has been mentioned already, but whats the deal with the cutscenes? I watched some videos on gametrailers and the framerate is god awful.

Not sure, the ones I've seen to date have been good. The ones off Live and GS come to mind. Not 60fps solid however if that is what you are looking for.
