Wow, not bad!
After working on the visual effects for it for almost a year now it's quite cool to see some good reviews- it's almost impossible to tell when working on blockbusters hah! Seems like people like the visuals as well.
This basically has to be better than Into Darkness so I'm excited.
Oh Jesus don't summon the Tribble blood loving JJ apologist into shartness shills into this thread. Let's just try to forget about that Pile of shit.
Into Darkness was an okay movie, but a godawful Trek movie. It has its moments, but it's terribly flawed for a number of reasons on top of some questionable decisions (Alice Eve in a bikini, whitewashing Khan, etc.)
I'm not sure which of them I'd call "great," but '09, II, VI and IV are at the very least "good" flicks.Where are the great Trek movies hiding?

I don't get this. ID wasn't great, but it was well made and at least somewhat engaging, unlike several other Trek films...I'm not sure which of them I'd call "great," but '09, II, VI and IV are at the very least "good" flicks.
Into Darkness is pure unimaginative garbage, easily the worst movie in the franchise.
Yes, worse than Final Frontier.

Galaxy Quest
Into Darkness is a lot like Revenge of the Fallen and Amazing Spiderman 2. Which makes sense since they were all penned by the same hack writers.I have never been a fan but i did enjoy the first Star Trek movie a lot, the Abrams one that is. I have yet to see Into Darkness. How is it?

Can we not do this, please?
Even if you dislike Into Darkness, saying it's as bad as Revenge of The Fallen is some absurd hyperbole.
Will probably catch this on demand.
I've only seen 09, Into Darkness and Wrath of Khan (and nothing from TV). Only one I thought was decent was Wrath of Khan, although it obviously had budget constraints along with being generally dated.
There are only really 2 great Star Trek movies (2 and 4) and some average movies (3, 6, maybe 1 and 8 if you are feeling generous). The rest are watchable junk at best. Will probably catch this on demand.

Into Darkness was probably the best blockbuster film I saw in summer 2013
Call me crazy, but I liked all of those movies you listed!!!I was going to try and argue, but looked at 2013 and it was like the year of terrible blockbusters. If you were saying the Into Darkness was the best of a bad group, then you definitely have a point. Ironman 3, Hobbit 2, Man of Steel, World War Z, Thor 2. Bleh. Though flawed, I do prefer Gravity and The Wolverine.

It wasn't well made at all, it was a bad movie that looked nice. J.J. Abrams' movies tend to be like that given that he is a brilliant filmmaker who knows how the camera works.I would argue that. Into Darkness still came out feeling like one of the better entries in the franchise.
The bar isn't raised very high.
