Though I'm sure some of you already knew about it, I've discovered that the cubes and tactical cubes in STFs suffer from the same vulnerability as the Unimatrix ships. From my testing, it seems they won't target you most of the time with heavy plasma torpedoes if you are within a certain range, but if you orbit them at maybe beyond 1km, they'll still fire them at you, at which point you can close in on them and let the torpedo hit you. If a regular cube's shields are down, the splash damage will often kill them, and with tactical cubes, it can still do around 20% damage. I actually managed to survive one of the torpedoes somehow, even as the splash damage killed the cube, but I got cocky and forgot to evacuate the cube's blast radius.

Yes, ironically... the only thing capable of destroying Borg are the Borg themselves. Their splash damage Torps are so overpowered, even the most powerful group of Tricobalt devices can't match it, might as well let them kill themselves when they kill you.

On another note, I am so very close to getting enough cryptic points to purchase that Defiant Retrofit with the cloak, should take me another day or 2 to amass the Dilithium, and I didn't pay a single cent to get it

I already have enough for one, but now I want one of those stupid Odysseys, toward which I probably only have about 60% of the CP.

I'd highly recommend the Chevron Separation one or the attack pet one. I prefer the Chevron Separation mostly because your turn rate gets increased with it making torps and dual beam banks more viable and giving you a little extra firepower from your saucer.

Shouta

Ah, that works too. The Chev and Pet don't come out at the same time though, unfortunately. At least it didn't on the test server.

So supposedly they're adding a new dilithium mining mission/minigame thing to the game, where you grab a space suit and go out onto an asteroid to drill for the stuff.

Also they're moving your shipboard (not sector) doff missions onto your actual ship, with NPCs you can talk to in different locations on board.

Yeah just read the devblog... very nice of them to do that to give us reasons to go IN to our ships. That totally would help with the immersion of this game beyond the starbases.

And holy n00b wednesdays in stfs... people were flying left and right like they'd never done a stf in their life... people dying and spawning to shoot at the gate repeatedly when the transformers on both sides were still up. I think you learn quickly to avoid the special STF of the day or else you wanna test your patience.

Looking at the release notes:
Changed offending Bajoran Male Counselor name after said Counselor's attempt to provide therapy to a human crewmember resulted in gales of laughter that were not able to be ceased until the Bajoran counselor fled the room red-faced.
Anyone know a name that was even weirder than the rest? EDIT: OK, looking at STOWiki's duty officer lists and narrowing down to Bajoran male counselors, it's pretty much got to be Femm Jiz.
Updated the Shard of Possibilities:

Both FED and KDF versions now have Remodulation.
Duration increased from 20 seconds to 30 seconds.
Cooldown reduced from 10 minutes to 5 minutes.
Quantum Shadows now behave differently in Social areas.
Nice.

Good to know about Shard being fixed, it was barely worth equipping for its cooldown and the length the shadows stuck around for

Today, will be the day I get my Defiant Retrofit once I refine the remaining Dilithium

I've also managed to do the brand new Dilithium Mining mission, acquired a new EV suit

Tried out the new DOFF personalized missions inside my own ship, pretty cool

and finally acquired a piece of the Aegis Space set, the Hyper Impulse engines that leave that cool pattern trail behind it, looks very nice!

Walshicus

Ideally we'll see the DOFF interface hookups used a lot more for non-DOFF content. They've been talking about using DOFF systems to replace Crafting for a while now.

The dilithium mining hardly seems worthwhile. The minigame is a bit of a pain, and even if you pull it off perfectly, the dilithium rewards seem to be less than one elite STF.

Heh. :) I know how you feel; as a Star Trek fan a lot of the game can be seen as cool customizable virtual toys and action figures. Taking a Defiant to DS9 is just one of those things you'd have to do, like taking the TOS Constitution to K7.

So whatever happened to GAFleet? Starting to get tired of PUGs. Failed three out of three Cure Space Elite because of people who couldn't read. After mostly decent Infecteds for most of the day, had one that just went dreadfully because of the same, and also saw one of the dreaded rainbow cruisers too.

If you let me know your play schedule, we could do some STFs together. I am always looking to play with other members of GAFleet.

God dammit Cryptic.

You now have to run around in your ship in order to acquire some assignments.

Seriously, this is a bad idea.

People have been calling for it for a while now - considering the focus of the shows there was little to actually do on your own ship.

You now have to run around in your ship in order to acquire some assignments.

Seriously, this is a bad idea.

Why?

You have pretty much the same number of assignments available from the UI as you used to, and if you want different ones you can go to your ship for like 100 more. Plus the ability to ALWAYS get some of the special assignments like the alien artifact one, the fact that your ship allows you to craft injury healing consumables at any time, plus the fact that you can actually buy drinks and food from the mess hall, plus the fact that if you want to level a specific type of commendation xp you can go to that NPC on your ship and be guaranteed like 10-15 available missions for that commendation xp type.

If you don't want to go to your ship, don't. Your doff stuff will be the same as it always was. There's no point in complaining about extra stuff.

Congrats man! Jealous!

I made a decision to keep my Defiant ship more or less canon (no pun intended), and that I will equip it only with Phaser (dual heavy) cannons and quantum torpedoes, and any other Federation only technology, including the M.A.C.O. set.

At the risk of diluting my own income stream, I've found that a quick way to make some EC is to just stop by an exchange and look through the ship shields/deflector/engine categories at the rear admiral levels, and just buy anything that's at least 1000 EC less than 50% of the value of the item. Then run over to the ship equipment vendor in the shipyard (doing this on DS9 since I hang around there most often) and just unload it all quick. It's amazing how many people just list their stuff for so much less than they could have gained if they just vended it. And if it puts your mind at ease, it's pretty much all junk that nobody would use once they've started going STFs.

Oh sweet. Will try.

I'll share some money making stuff as well. In case anybody doesn't know how to get the most money out of the Tour the Universe event, the idea is to fly through the areas of space owned by different species. You get 50000 EC plus some commendation xp for each area you complete. The trick is to do only the quick ones, drop the mission and pick it up again, instead of doing the whole thing once or twice.

1. Before you start:
a. Equip one of the doffs that reduces your transwarp recharge time, if you have it.
b. Hail Starfleet and grab the following Episode missions (all from Klingon War): Stranded in Space, Everything Old is New, The Doomsday Device. These will allow you to transwarp to the starting locations of those missions for a few hundred EC each.
There are other missions to transwarp to other sectors, but they cost so much EC that it's not really worth it.

2. Take the Tour the Galaxy mission from Earth Space Dock.
3. Use Everything Old is New to transwarp to Drozana Station.
4. Fly "east" from Drozana until you hit the next sector, then turn 180 degrees and fly all the way to the "western" edge of the sector block. (50,000 EC)
5. Keep going into the Orellius Sector Block, then go straight north until you get your money. (50,000 EC)
6. Use The Doomsday Device to transwarp to the Donia system. Fly to the transwarp gate to get to Gamma Orionis.
7. Set course for Sibirian system in the center and pass directly under it. (50,000 EC)
8. Fly "west" into the Pelia sector. (50,000 EC)
9. Transwarp to Earth Space Dock if it's available. If not, use Stranded in Space to transwarp to S.S. Azura and then fly to ESD.
10. Drop the Tour the Galaxy mission from your journal. Return to Step 2.

Rinse and repeat for 200k EC per cycle until the event ends. If you have slipstream drive, it's most efficient to use it after the turn in step 4, and while flying through Gamma Orionis in step 7.

If you have the right equipment set, you could also have the Slipstream capacitor, equip Borg engines, and/or MACO engines, and get Diplomatic Immunity, you could do wonders

Or if you have the Excelsior Refit that you pay for, it has a transwarp computer that lets you transwarp to any sector you want

I've been having some fun profiting from the exchange too, but by buying/selling commodities. I haven't been messing with it long enough to know if this is a regular pattern, but I know I was getting worried that some of the things I'd bought in bulk (like 100 Tulaberries for 3 million EC) were no longer selling for what would be a profit--however, everything shot way up for the weekend. When Tulaberries peaked around 80,000 apiece I was definitely making a profit.

EDIT: To further specify, the rare commodities from/for doff assignments, not plain stuff like Entertainment Provisions.

DarthWoo

It is interesting to watch how the master keys fluctuate on the exchange. I remember taking a quick look, seeing a bunch at 950k, and then looking a few minutes later and seeing all those gone, replaced yet another few minutes later by a large amount at 965k. I wonder how many of the keys on the exchange actually get used as opposed to relisted at a tiny markup.

Won't stop picking the right nation
Today I sold a tactical borg prosthetic on the exchange for 3 million EC. I probably undercut the going price by too much, but I didn't expect it to sell so fast.

Anyway, I haven't seen any references in the game to Morn's fate; I think that the developers missed an opportunity to place him in Quark's bar as a joke to the player.

Managed to acquire a 2nd part of the Aegis space set, the Covariant shield. My Defiant looks so sweet with those glowing outlines. I have yet to see what this Thoron Distortion field thing is doing for me, I am still getting hit plenty with that shit.

New patch out and holy shit:

Performed a balance pass on the following Space STF enemies:
Borg Cube, Borg Tactical Cube, Vila Battleship, Tethys Dreadnought, and all unique versions of these same critters.
Reduced their innate damage bonuses:
This will reduce their base damage by approximately 10% across the board.
This has a more obvious impact on high-damage abilities, like High Yield Plasma, and should not reflect much of a difference for their standard weaponry since they already possess a 10%-20% variance.
These ships no longer have the ability to Critically Hit:
This will keep these critters deadly, while removing many of the "one shot = one kill" abilities that have been reported.

THAT'S RIGHT, BORG, FUCK YO INSTAKILL INVISIBLE PLASMA TORP BULLSHIT

This is kind of a big deal, too.
Field Generator Console mods can now be stacked.

As such their effectiveness has been reduced.
These are the science consoles that increase shield capacity. The mark XI you can buy with dilithium increased shield capacity by 35%. Now mine says 18%, so it looks like they halved it.

DarthWoo

I'm glad Grandpa porked a Chinese Muslim
Ehh, the heavy plasma torpedoes still one-shot my advanced escort, though granted I'm not in a great tanking build (but I DO have a +35% kinetic resistance console...), but I guess as long as I can keep killing Borg with their own firepower, that's fine.

I wanted to ask the other players here, am I the only one who gets blown away by the D'deridex Defender's in the early Romulan story arc? I'm a level 21 tactical character flying around in a Akira variant and frankly spoken it rips me to shreds.

Even with all my skills I can barely bring it down to 3/4 health and when I then pull back to regenerate my shields the enemy ship regenerates its hull faster than I can look. Is there any trick to this?

Bug.

The D'deridex Defender was supposed to be a new variant for an upcoming 5-man shuttle mission that takes place in The Vault. It was accidentally added to the regular rotation.

Should be fixed now, I believe?

Anyhow...

I've barely touched the foundry, but I've had a kernel of an idea bouncing around. I was thinking about how the Featured Episodes have all pretty much felt like Federation episodes that the Klingons end up forced into with little change, so how about a case of the reverse? Playing as the Federation in a scenario where you've got to wipe out a bunch of tribbles! Perhaps these are tribbles that have been modified so they're eating people or buildings.

Walshicus

Heh, see that's the reason I made both "Uplift" for Feds and "yln Chen" for Klingons. It's the same *basic* plotline, only the yln Chen is set chronologically after Uplift and is complementary to it without forcing you into "nice guy" decisions.

Today was the relaunch of STO in EU, and to celebrate on ESD or Qo'Nos first city, you can claim a special kind of Tribble, ICIC, it gives a career specific debuff and is team oriented and is stackable apparently. Q is also making an appearance at each location, offering a bonus XP gain for a few hours if you talk to him about it.

Ground missions are much better now with this new Tribble.

In my Defiant ship, I have tried many different set piece configurations for longevity while maintaining high impact fire power... even after this patch, while no invisible torp bullshit, I am still dying a lot. I have to switch to my Odyssey from time to time to feel like I am standing a chance against the Borg cuz once they train their sights on you, you stand maybe 5 secs before exploderading all over space.

I just came back from a Cure Space Elite, it has now become a very hated run for me... with the influx of noobs, and don't tell me there aren't, even before this relaunch, that mission fails at least 75% of the time... and I need some Borg Prototype engines to complete my Space MACO MK 12 set

Thanks to the heavy plasma torpedoes no longer sometimes being invisible, I've gotten much better at using them against the cubes. Oddly enough, sometimes I actually drag a torpedo back into a cube and survive the impact with only minor shield damage, while still hitting the cube for terrible, terrible damage.

I've had pretty much the same Cure Elite experience as you. No matter how much you try to advise your team, nobody will listen. It's especially frustrating when it seems to be going reasonably well, and then you see the flash of a cube exploding while you've only just cleared the second set of probes. Even though it technically doesn't take that long to kill the second cube, it seems the rest of the team is never willing or able to hold off the first wave of raptors.

I am having a lot of fun experimenting using Tractor repulsors on my Defiant... I am doing this to pick up some of the slack in STFs keeping ships away from sensitive target mission optionals. I've had to give up some protection and healing to make this happen in my current configuration, but so far it's so fun I almost don't care. I'm like a bully pushing things outta the way, for better or for worse.

It's my favorite science ability, one thing that the game doesn't make clear is that graviton generators skill changes how much you push them back, and particle generators skill affects the damage output.

Incidentally, you can pass the IDIC tribble around to your boffs in a ground mission, and IF they use it, the buffs will stack just like they would with a regular player, including the extra buff for having all 3 class buffs on you. IF they use it.

So what are some quick and easy ways to farm dilithium on two characters I don't usually play much? My primary character has no shortage, and in fact tends to get too much in a day to refine for the next several days, but I have both a Fed and KDF that don't get much, at least unless I park the KDF one on Qo'noS to keep running the contraband assignment over and over. That will eventually run dry too because I get most of my contraband while in the space around DS9.

Contraband and Daily Player quests are your best choice for quick and simple. I haven't done mine in a few weeks though, kinda got tired of going on just to do that and nothing else.

Not sure how long it lasts, but there seems to be a 20% off sale going on on most of the C-Store stuff, except stuff like the Odyssey/Bortasqu and such. I'm only 10 CP short of buying both the T5 Defiant and Prometheus.

Edit: And the sale has precipitated a suitably large increase in the price of Cryptic Points on the dilithium exchange. :(
