Let's be honest, Alexander was always going to be a bad kid, in or outside of the Trek universe.

How did they treat him

What Beltran stuff?

Dish!

Wang got a lot of flak during Voyager's run. Among the shortlist of ways they tried to screw him over:

- they denied him the chance to direct an episode (like pretty much every member of the cast) purely out of spite
- they stuck him with terrible storylines for the entirety of the show's run, on the basis that "someone has to be the ensign"
- they were originally planning on firing him at the beginning of Season 3, but changed their mind once he was featured in a People Magazine article (leading them to cut Lien instead)
- he was originally supposed to have the final shot of the series, where he started crying after Voyager gets back home; instead, the moment was recut to have him crying over the birth of his friend's baby

Beltran hated most of his time on Voyager. He used to go to cons and bring fans to tears by insulting the show. He would constantly trash the technobabble and scripts anytime he had an interview, and deliberately tried to get himself fired by asking for an exorbitant raise and creative demands (which didn't work - he got the raise and a relationship storyline with Jeri Ryan, lol!).

You could write a book on all the ways the Voyager cast (and crew) were dysfunctional. Genevieve Bujold quit her role as Janeway midway through the first week of filming - just left and never came back. There were bomb threats to Paramount when a female captain was announced for the series. Mulgrew supposedly resented Ryan for being more popular than her. Ryan's original silver outfit was actually physically dangerous to wear because the neck pressed against her carotid artery. Half the reason why we got the Battlestar Galactica reboot is because Ronald Moore got increasingly fed up with the writer's room not giving a shit about continuity and overarching plots. Brannon Braga took over the majority of writing duties and started holding all writer's meetings at his house.

It was basically controlled chaos.

It wasn't out of spite, it was because he was a lazy bum. All Star Trek actors who eventually directed said pretty much the same thing, they had to earn it. To stay with Voyager, Robert Duncan McNeill and Roxann Dawson both did a lot of work before they directed formthe first time, they were on set even when they weren't filming themselves, they shadowed directors, camera operators, spend time in the editing booth, scoring etc., reportedly they even vücame in during their days off.
Wang was the first going home as soon as he wrapped, that's his right of course but that's not how you get a second job (and a separate paycheck!), while the others worked their asses off he simply said he wanted to direct and that was it. It's no surprise Berman didn't let him do it.

I think the Somber tone was because the rest of the cast liked working with her.

As for Garret, I'm inclined to give him a pass due to the way the production staff and writers treated him. Same with all the stuff Robert Beltran dealt with.

One of my friends who isn't at all into Star Trek actually ended up befriending Garrett in vegas during one of the conventions, he seems like a really awesome guy, as far as I know they're still good friends (though when she mentioned it and had no idea about anything Star Trek and I realized she was talking about Harry Kim I was pretty stoked).

They refused to let Garrett Wang direct an episode, something they usually let any actor who wanted the opportunity, going back to TNG.

Beltran was pretty bitter about his role in the show. He rarely got a focus episode, and most the time he was just Janeway's Yes Man. Think about the role the first officer got on TOS, TNG, and DS9, then look at what happened to Chakotay.

Man, that sucks. Chakotay could've been a really cool character.

In the grand scheme of things the TNG crew turned out OK, I think most of them are still best buds as well, voyager in comparison was and continues to be an epic cluster fuck.

DS9 is doing good too. Colm Meany probably has the best post-trek career outside of the captains.
Both Daxes are still looking good.

Very much so, by all reports. There's also a growing body of evidence that indicates there was a lot of on-set bitterness towards the firing and her replacement. This interview, for instance: http://trekcore.com/blog/2014/11/ryan-mulgrew-feud/

The Garrett Wang interview linked on that page was really interesting. Too bad they didn't explore that line where he said that Kes was let go first and the show, therefore, needed to bring a new character in rather than the other way around.

Wanting to go home after shooting all day is being a "lazy bum"? Not to mention he actually went on record to say that the reason he was barred from directing an episode in the first place is because he gave an interview that was somewhat critical of the series.

You sound like a mouthpiece for Rick Berman.

Was at a con two years ago that Wang hosted and he was darn good. He was having fun and did a good job, he interacted well with everyone and got along good with his fellow ST actors/actress that showed up as well. B'elanna even showed up which was a huge thing since she actually directs now and it sounded like it was the first time she had seen him in forever if not since the show itself. She said he didn't change one bit, which I took to meant his joking attitude and the like. However during those times on Voyager you heard a lot about how stoned or drugged out he was on set. I remember him getting in huge trouble in those days for that. Might be even some pictures out there of him blazed out of his mind.

There was one of him from not long ago at a stripper joint.

Ezri was there at the con too, she was hot still. Wore long fitting boots. Made her hotter. Doesn't hurt pretty sure she's kinky as hell.

I too wondered what happened to Kes. She was a killer knockout on that show. I know people age and all but man she aged hard. Drugs or alcohol must have hit her hard assuming she did either or both. I guess some people age like fine wine, and some like her age like milk.

What's that now?

Can't recall what she said but definitely got the impression.

And she's only aged well since she was fairly young on the show.

I remember when she started having long hair in the show near the end of her run, looked damn great.

The problems with Kes could have been solved by getting rid of Neelix, who is one of the most irritating regular characters in all of Trek.

It was really the fault of the writers in general. Lien never really had any storylines to work with - the best they could do was that episode where she got body-swapped with a warlord, and the other one where she jumps through time and experiences different realities. Neither of those storylines ever amounted to anything - hell, the writers thought they broke Kes and Neelix up, but that was in a deleted scene, leading most people to wonder why the latter didn't even care when she left in Season 4.

This should be a wake-up call to people in this thread. What happened to her isn't unusual: it's the result of an unhealthy lifestyle. Most "non-Hollywood" women who can't afford personal trainers and dieticians (or who simply don't care) age like this on a typical high carb-diet; especially after kids, and factoring in other vectors like a sedentary lifestyle, smoking, and if they abuse drugs or alcohol.

Women who make their living by working in a visual medium have a much greater incentive to keep looking visually appealing. They'll invest more into their looks, but as a byproduct, they'll usually lead healthier lifestyles too.

Is she naked in the mug shot too?

Probably. Additional info from CNN:

CNN said:
According to the affiliate, Lien was found naked on her couch by deputies and resisted walking to the patrol car after threatening to kill the officers.

Lien was clothed and carried out to the car.

The actress' character on "Voyager" was Kes, an alien from a mentally advanced race with only a nine-year lifespan. The series aired from 1995 to 2001 for seven seasons.

The Harriman Police Department also said that Lien has a record that includes aggravated assault, domestic assault, resisting arrest, evading arrest and reckless endangerment.

Badly aging is one thing, but it sounds like's she's gone a little off the deep end. Sad.
