LOS ANGELES - The Star Wars DVD trilogy racked up $115 million US in sales on Tuesday, its first day of release.

However, officials at 20th Century Fox have not revealed the total number of units that were sold around the world.

To make matters even more murky, the $115 million figure also includes sales generated by the release of the Star Wars: Battlefront video game, which also went on sale Tuesday.

A report in the Daily Variety trade paper estimated that 90 per cent of the $115 million, or roughly $103 million, came from sales of the DVD, mostly in the United States.

That's impressive.

Why in the hell would Battlefront sales be lumped in with DVD box set sales??

More Lucas ego stroking? Heh, maybe Columbia should've done the same thing with the Spider-Man 2 video game and soundtrack (not that they're all from the same company like the Star Wars stuff, but still).

And the figures do include the actual video game...seen several reports commenting on it. It isn't like this is the first DVD with a video game demo, so that's a moot point.
