Star Wars: Fallen Order |OT| I have a gooood feeling about this

  • Fast travel would be nice when I want to revisit a planet real quick to explore an area with a new skill. I think I may just skip ever going back once I get further into the game

Completely agree. I'd even settle for alternate landing pads rather than fast travel points, at least for Zeffo and Dathomir. Those two planets will absolutely test one's patience in terms of exploration and backtracking. The other planets are woefully short in comparison. When I do get around to finishing it, I will never 100% the game simply because having to run the entire length of Zeffo just to get to certain areas -- then have to run the entire length back to get to my ship -- is far too tedious. Even with all the map shortcuts open.

I'm a couple planets in. It's a solid action game. Here are my negatives so far.
  • Started on Jedi Master, dropped it down to Jedi Knight after getting frustrated and realizing the game isn't doing enough interesting things to justify spending time to git guud at it
  • Fast travel would be nice when I want to revisit a planet real quick to explore an area with a new skill. I think I may just skip ever going back once I get further into the game
  • The secrets don't appear to be worth looking for. So far it's just cosmetics, most of which I just don't care about
  • I really wish there was actual gear to equip and use.
  • The skill tree being restricted is dumb. There have been a few times already where I had skill points available but nothing worth spending them on.
  • The difficulty curve is wild. There doesn't appear to be a nice curve, just random jumps
  • The camera is awful when you're trying to fight in a closed-in space. Like "How did this ship in 2019?" bad
  • I don't care about the main character. He's just kind of bland without any real personality.
I'd probably give it a 7/10 right now.

its a metroid game, there is no fast travel thats the point. infact this is the best part of the game.
ya jedi knight is good challenge enough. but u do need to find all the canistors for higher difficulty.

Yeah that's a hard no from me. Just because something is done a certain way in a particular style of game does not mean that it's a good idea or you need to do it when making a similar game.

thats the charm of it. getting new abilities exploring the map finding the secrets. fast travel would ruin the exploration and make you miss things you didn't notice the first time. its a gameplay mechanic that is not for everyone i agree.

I ended up really enjoying this one. Once I nabbed a few extra stim cannisters and worked my way up the skill tree, and had those luxuries in combat, it was less frustrating. I kind of breezed through the second half on Normal, once I got the hang of things. I enjoyed the one on one battles far more, though Lightsaber Throw can make for some pretty easy cheese. I'm also not usually a fan of having to trudge back after I've completed an objective, but I didn't find any of it obscenely tedious or anything, nor did I find save points too far apart, as I had read some reviews complain about. Then again, opinions may vary based on difficulty.

The story was good enough to keep me wanting to play on to see how it unfolds, and the manner in which it is told with flashbacks and such was pretty terrific. Cal was a perfectly fine protagonist, with an interesting backstory (along with Cere) and there were even some genuinely touching moments thrown in there. BD-1 is just an absolute delight, and I'd put him up there with any Droid companion in the Star Wars universe.

I also found that capping the framerate through RivaTuner and using the NVIDIA Control Panel for VSync (instead of in-game) smoothed out performance for me for the most part, so that certainly helped my enjoyment. All in all, it was a memorable experience, I must say. I would play a sequel in a heartbeat - 8.5/10

There is no charm in having to backtrack across Zeffo or Dathomir multiple times. It's literal wasted time for playtime padding. Going from the landing pad to the second temple on Zeffo, even with using the Ice Caves as a central nexus, is a tedious slog of traversal. I never felt the backtracking in Metroid or Castlevania or Shadow Complex was tedious and many times backtracking resulted in having major gameplay upgrades. This isn't the case with JFO; Backtracking is often extremely tedious and often the only reward for doing so is cosmetic chests.

i can agree to an extent, but the maps also have shortcuts. but i see what you mean. for instance im canistor hunting and the one in kashyk is a real pain to get to.

The ending of the game was awesome. I'm not some big Star Wars fan but I still got excited about what happened. :)

Is it just me or does Cera remind you of someone from Modern Warfare? I forgot her name, but she spoke to another person on a base during a mission and never made another appearance. As far as this game goes. The MC doesn't always sit with me. I wish we could change his face. I went and got the DLS early, right when I left that tutorial area. I figured it would make the game that much better than finding it later on. At times I feel like they are turning it all into one big amusement ride. I'm enjoying it, but I'm slightly annoyed all at the same time. I'm curious to see what the 2nd half of the game is like. Everyone seems to be happy with it.

I take back my previous rating of 7/10. I'm dropping this down to a 4/10 and uninstalling the game.

The difficulty spikes and lack of fast travel really make the game feel like a slog at times, and frankly I refuse to play a game in 2019 that makes me repeat things, backtrack, and run through areas again and again the way this does. There are way too many games in my Steam library that I can play right now that won't waste my time the like Fallen Order does, so I see no point in spending another minute with it.

Hahaa you suck! Game is 9.9 out 10. I'm kicking ass in the game. Yes it's difficult, but giving the abilities you get, it's not unfair difficult. Get good.😁

So, I’m on my third play through, and I have a question for those of you who beat the game.
Does anyone else feel like the game is missing a planet after Dathomir? Once Merrin joins, it feels like there’s supposed to be another planet to go to and complete some mission. It’s like there this build up to something and then the game ends. Does anyone have the deluxe edition? Does the behind the scenes thing show any cut content?

Perhaps we will be getting story DLC in the future.

the story is a mess. it seems it was heavily edited from what was originally intended for the game. not only were story plots removed but also events that the crew make references to but never actually happened. as a whole your crew has little to no purpose other than to talk to about random stuff. they have no involvement in the story at all until the very end.
Spoilers: Take Merrin for instance, she joins your crew and then the next mission is the end. so what was the purpose of her joining you? clearly she was meant to join earlier and have some input.

That's a very Star Wars thing on all movies and media. Han would start talking about leia opening her heart to him in some events between 4 and 5, Obi and Ani were joking around stuff they did between 1 and 2 and the list goes on and on. Even Luke talks about "The Clone Wars" in Episode 4 before we even knew what was that.

more of a case that dialogue was recorded and things got cut and dialogue stayed in the game.

Just cleared the second temple. I don't know what some of the more critical opinions are smoking. This game is nuts. That was one of the better temples I've played outside of a Zelda game. Graphics are amazing too. The boss fights are pretty interesting.

My only real problem is the cast. Combat isn't 100% airtight, but it's good enough. Still having a lot of fun. Just got my 2nd force power.

I get that it's not all that well fleshed out, and something does feel like it's missing, but
doesn't she literally save your life at the end when you're about to drown? That seems like pretty significant involvement.

My gosh the last part of the game had me terrified. Amazing.

Loved the game, waiting for sequel or more like this.

Found the final bounty hunter. Fucked her day up in the best way possible 🤣

(Don’t watch unless you’re reasonably far into the game. There is a weapon spoiler)

Improvements for a sequel:

> Better lightsaber throw, preferably like in God of War, it would be a great addition and allow for more sophisticated puzzles.

> A less stretched level design, some planets just extend their paths indeterminately, I think that more concise, interconnected levels would be nicer. More Firelink Shrines and less Majulas, if you get what I mean.

> More responsive combat, it seems to me that combat should be more fluid, I dunno, more agile, even if it means sacrificing some of the physics realism. This game feels like if RDD2 and Sekiro had a baby: interesting and challenging combat with added slog

Also agree on this, however if you take time to find most of the shortcuts you can travel faster if you memorize the layout, but it tests one patience. It shouldn't.

But various landing spots would be cool, something like MGSV.

Also fast travel or being able to land the ship in more than one area. I'm currently looking for the collectibles and it's a huge pain in the ass to have to go all the way to the other end of the map and then come back.
