Am I the only one that can't stand Ashoka? I'm only on season 1 of the clone wars, fyi. Does she get less annoying?

She definitely flourishes as time goes on. You really start to see her purpose and what her character represents in the grand scheme of things.

I'm still not feeling this. Definitely seems like Disney is skewing this for a younger demographic compared to Clone Wars.

And is it me or does the Inquisitor look like the Son from the Clone Wars series?

Looks like a poor version of The Clone Wars,

It's a shame because clone wars told some fantastic self contained stories. Like the failed clone Janitor one or The clones on that asteroid base. Really good solid universe expanding stuff.

This looks dull.

My gut reaction says that the characters and their designs are really lousy. The whole thing looks like it's modeled after those cheap plastic Star Wars action figures with over-exaggerated caricatured bodies. I thought one of the great things about Star Wars was that it didn't need to be marketed specifically towards younger audiences to appeal to them. This seems more like a knock-off than a genuine part of the universe, and I can't see its quality reaching anywhere near latter seasons of TCW because it's hard to take it seriously. The story arcs and dialog are going to suffer the hardest.

Then again, I can't write something off so soon, as many people did with TCW's first season. I know that the animation is going to be good, but that's likely just a result of the experience from TCW. I'll ultimately watch it because it's Star Wars, however, I can't shake the feeling that it's going to be incredibly cringe-worthy.

I feel like they're missing a trick by having the big bad be another random Dark Side guy, instead of just, you know, Darth fucking Vader

They said that they didn't make Vader the main antagonist because the nature of the show means that the good guys have small victories and/or foil the plans of the villain and/or escape him everytime. If Vader was the antagonist that would diminish his badassness.

I do like the notion of seeing the beginnings of the Rebel Alliance and how maybe they started off pretty ragtag.

Also, it's one of the few Star Wars things that is canon!

Much like Daleks, the Alien, Klingons and so on, I think much of Vader's fearsome image has been ravaged by the tides of time and pop-culture, so if that's the concern... They might want to re-imagine shit like the DisneyLand Jedi Academy and so on first. Maybe stop things like this from happening too. :P

I buy it if they just want to want the Empire feel threatening, makes sense to keep the big boss in the shadows and focus on having the underlings seem equally dangerous.

Jedis and Dark Jedis popping out of the woodwork as usual. I thought Obi-wan and Yoda said they were hunted down and killed.

They are being hunted. The thing is Obi-wan and Yoda had no idea if every single Jedi was killed. They just knew the order was destroyed (as seen in Episode 3) and Jedi were hunted down (Episode 3 and now Rebels). Obi-wan managed to survive when Cody and the rest of his forces turned on him. It stands to reason others would manage to get away. Maybe not many but some. Then there is the issue with Ahoska. There are likely others like her or ones simply off on their own when Order 66 was handed down and the killing started.

Looking forward to see how this turns out.

Wow. Where did the budget go? Guess Disney isn't as generous as Cartoon Network was.

The blue eyes are totally overdone. Ridiculous.

This reminds me to rewatch the Clone Wars Vol 1 / Vol. 2.

That was really badass and over the top. Loved it.

Yeah, it's still the best. They should never have tried to adapt Genndy's art style into CG though, because it came out really poorly. And it seems they didn't learn their lesson for Rebels.

Why the heck they didn't just ask Genndy back is beyond me.

I hope we don't end up with 5 seasons of "next time, gadget!" from Darph Bobo. There needs to be a lot of variety in this show or its going to get old very quickly. Give the dude like one arc per season. Better yet, let him be big bad for now but kill him off or just take him out of the picture at the end of the first season because failure isn't tolerated in the Empire ffs. I'm biased though, I reeeaaaally don't like his clown face design.

Looks super childish to me, especially the art style. I remember seeing the CG opening / movies from Old Republic, now get those guys some money and made a super realistic animated movie or series

Seems like there's survivors in every star wars story. I looked at the wiki, and there's about 60. It's a tired and clapped out plot device in my opinion.

That's no longer canon though. Only Ben Kenobi, Yoda, this dude, and possibly Ahsoka Tano are known to have survived.

Well, I don't expect anything like mature like Old Republic or some of the (old) EU fictions, but this is actually pretty good assuming it's a kids/teenager's show. Lots of action and cool characters. Star Wars universe itself is meant to be for teenagers anyway.

Ever since the special editions of the original trilogy, Star Wars has become nothing but childish cartoons. I'm really getting tired of it. Please JJ, make a good movie!

It's a shame they haven't pursued that live action TV show inspired by Deadwood/Battlestar which was supposed to be set before Episode IV. This young demographic cartoon thing they've been doing for the past 12 years doesn't appeal to me at all.

Issue I have is it seems like its just going to be your weekly make the empire look incompetent paint by the numbers thing.

Pretty depressing because The Clone Wars went into just how damn good Palpatine is at screwing the Galaxy over.

Now we got your prototype original trilogy crew right down to the rejected prototype chewbacca. Clone Wars even though we know how it all ended up was awesome because it was filling in on a ton of stuff we never got to see.

Supposedly during this dark time for the Galaxy the Empire was supposed to basically be invincible until Luke and crew show up.

It occurred to me yesterday that, if sticking to canon, this is destined to be the most boring show about the Rebellion ever.

Hearken back to the opening crawl of Episode IV:

"It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire."

First. Victory.

Meaning that, throughout this entire series, there can never be anything remotely close to a major engagement, at most a few skirmishes, that the rebels will probably lose. This will end up being a small underground guerrilla movement that can't hope to make any change. The real, organized rebellion won't kick off for years after this series is done.

It looks such a step back from the Clone Wars, pretty disappointing. I'll give it a watch when it comes out.

Also is the woman with red Mandalorian armour
Bo-Katan Kryze
?

definitely looks like a dumbed down version to impress the younger audience.... im sad

Looks more interesting than Clone Wars, subject wise. CW felt like it was just making everything way too convoluted. At least this is open territory.

it looks much cheaper then the clown wars show, and I already didnt like the art style back then.
shame, I'll probably still watch it if it has stormtroopers and star destroyers

That will all be ignored. Retcons, ignoring stuff that happened before and just strange decisons have been apart of this franchise since forever.

The last season of Clone Wars was amazing, I don't see how this can top CW honestly. It looks so kiddy, as it should I assume since its geared towards a younger crowd.

I'm going to miss the gritty, dark and awesomeness of CW.

Looks kind of bad, but so did the early trailers for TCW. We likely won't know if this series has a real chance for quality until a season or two in.

The Imperial officer's line about "locating a rebel cell" may hint that these guys aren't the sole impetus behind the beginnings of the Rebel Alliance. There could be a much larger movement (possibly lead by Mon Mothma or Bail Organa) that we probably won't see for a while as the show builds out from this one planet featured in the trailer.

Also, I don't recall that line stopping X-Wing (a game that repeatedly features Rebel spaceships winning victories against the Empire), which technically takes place in the months and weeks leading up to Episode IV.

With the new trilogy looming, I'm up for some Star Wars right now but frankly this looks like shit. Don't give me that "Well it's for kids..." crap either, that doesn't stop shows like Avatar from appealing to older demographics as well. This just straight up looks bad.

There is a ton of talent in the television space right now and there is no reason we shouldn't have a kick-ass Star Wars show on. It's the perfect medium for expanding and fleshing out the universe, I hope they learn to take advantage of it.

Games were never canon, so they could basically do whatever.
