Star Wars: Rogue One Story Trailer

Looks fine. I'm not expecting a masterpiece or anything, but hopefully this will be another solid entry in the series like TFA was.

It's gonna bum me out when 99% of the heroes end up dying in the end though.

Christensen is actually an inch taller than Bob Anderson who was in the Vader suit for stunts, including the lightsaber battles, in Empire and Jedi. They could easily make it work. But like you said, why hire him for a short role unless they are showing his face?

I guarantee nobody at Lucasfilm even considered re-hiring Hayden Christensen to play Darth Vader, nor should they have.

So did Bryan Cranston need to fight on the Godzilla set to make sure his character emoted like a human being? Thats the vibe I'm getting from this.

And if they refuse to throw in an adr line saying 'WE NEED YOU TO STEAL THE PLANS TO THE DEATH STAR' like a normal movie would to explain the story in the "Story Trailer" then at least make sure the characters were introduced with a bang.

What we got so far is...

The 5 foot 2 lethal weapon when not handcuffed of course.
The monontone first mate.
The heavy weapons refugee who the Empire was really mean to.
The not-a-Jedi Jedi.
Philosophizing Forest Whitaker.
And no space party is complete without the "funny" deadpan robot.

The action figures will sell like hotcakes.

I'm not a negative Nancy, but I just think the bts drama is hurting marketing horribly. For example, the millions of Star Wars fans know the title's meaning, but does anyone else? Should you need to read a video description to figure out the plot of a movie. Insert some fun into the dialogue and lightness back to the tone and then it wouldnt embarass this selfserious movie to explain its own existence. Oooh its a dark and gritty war film with Star Wars stuff thats all you gotta know!

It's given me new appreciation for everything about The Force Awakens and Harrison Ford monologuing.

I'm not really sure what you're getting at here. "There's a weapons test imminent and we need to know to destroy it" is literally said over a massive panning shot of the Death Star.

Unless that itself is your issue?

Visually it looks pretty awesome. Godzilla showed Edwards is good at this.
But I'm worried about the characters. I'm not feeling them so far. I was a lot more interested in Rey, Finn, Kylo and Poe before TFA than I am in any of the Rogue One characters.

I love all the movie reviews off a 90 second trailer. Flat delivery, no charisma, etc etc.

Who needs to watch the full thing when 90 seconds is all you need to make a final determination on a movie? /sar

I don't know how anyone who loves Star Wars could watch that trailer and go "meh". People complained about Clone Wars animated...it was awesome. People complained about Rebels...it's awesome. People complain about this...must be awesome!

Rebels is not awesome, lmao. It's very safe and frankly boring at most points.

I mean not every movie has to have cute, endearing characters.

Not really doing anything for me. It just hurts the main premise of the movie is the most boring fucking subject they could have picked out of a world that has so much potential. Pretty sure the only reason they chose this was to use Vader to sell tickets. Saying that, I'll still see in the theaters :D

The female lead is not even close to Rey levels of coolness.

She appears to be more bitchy / snotty.

No, it's like I said. The movie is taking itself so seriously that's the best choice of dialogue they had to explain the plot in the Mon Mithma exposition briefing scene. Why leave it up to the trailer viewers to piece together the plot for a series with concepts so on the nose like Dark Side and Light Side. Why these characters, where are they going, and what exactly are they going to do? That is my problem.

The extraction of the death star plans and the lives lost in the acquisition therein seems boring to you? Given the importance those plans had in the Star Wars trilogy story itself?

Really?

Isn't it fair to assume that those questions get answered in the film? Why do you expect a 2 minute trailer to answer every question you have about a movie or the characters therein, none of which you know anything about? Ya'll are making my head hurt. All you need to know is that there's a team, she was recruited for it, and people probably don't make it out alive. That times are desperate and perilous. What else do you need to know?

So, K-2SO is basically HK-47? I got the feeling he's not your average C3PO.

Also, we have confirmation that Hayden Christensen is NOT playing Vader, right?

Voiced by the Voice of Vader himself.

Though I would love a Hayden Christensen "I it was ME, Austin! It was ME ALL ALONG!" moment. Or Jar-Jar wearing the suit. "Iz Wassa Messa! Iz Wassa Messa AL Azong!"

I'm still confused. Are you saying they're not displaying things thoroughly enough or that they're displaying things too on the nose?

Trailers are meant to sell and showcase a movie so we are well within our rights to criticize the movie.

Plenty of trailers accomplish that; yes, that is what I want.

The former.

I'm wondering if this trailer is expecting everyone to know Star Wars at this point, and to be drawn in by the characters and the visuals and the nostalgia more than explaining things. Star Wars is a monster name, the name alone can draw the people in, even if they are confused or the plot is not as clear cut.

Can't wait for the retcons!

Jyn is Rey's grandmother.

Are you saying we're not going to have this:

in a non-Lucas Star Wars movie? Those hacks! Those fucking hacks!

Or lines about hating sand? Or loooove?

Btw, I feel that a lot of people are ignoring the Man vs. Environment theme with Godzilla. That movie was very respectful towards the 1954 original, including main scientist dying and a nuclear accident situation. There is one shot in particular where Godzilla walks back into the see and I could literally feel my skin having a galvanic response, which is how you can tell (intense) memory recognition. It took a while to find, but that exact shot is also in the original movie, where I saw it first when I was six or something like that.

This.

There's a handful of good episodes (usually the season finale), but a whole lot of filler.

I miss late-era Clone Wars, though even that still had its fair share of bland episodes.

Rogue One looks pretty good visually. Not sure about some of the dialogue in this trailer (or is it just the delivery? I really can't decide).

There's nothing surprising there. The Death stars have enough limelight that it became a parody of itself by VII. If they wanted to go back to the past, look at a Hans story or a Jedi turning evil or vice-versa. The trilogy already happened, I couldn't give a shit about the Death Star by now.

YES!

The dialogue is fine. Feels like a Star Wars movie.

To be honest following Edwards from Monsters and Godzilla, his eye for great visual effects is his major plus point whilst his human characters have been pretty wooden.

Not much of a problem though, the writing was never a strong point in Star Wars.

A) We're getting Han's past (also a way worse idea than this tbqh)

B) WE HAD AN ENTIRE TRILOGY DEDICATED TO A JEDI TURNING EVIL

What did you want to see from this trailer?

TFA trailers didn't divulge much in the way of story details - Luke going missing, Kylo's lineage, state of the galaxy, what BB-8's purpose was, what Leia was up to, Maz etc.

B) WE HAD AN ENTIRE TRILOGY DEDICATED TO A JEDI TURNING EVIL

OR DID WE?

edit: I should probably clarify that I am, obviously, being completely sarcastic about this prequel stuff. It won't be missed, though a small nod might be nice. Just one random evil guy from Jar Jar's race or whatever. Just to say "fuck that shit", basically.

Man, the creeping Imperial March piece, cinematography, all on point..

Except the dialogue. A few hit lines, but man this is really starting to worry me. Feels very generic and safe. The TFA trailers didn't give me this feeling, dialogue was always on point and interesting.

SW, at its core, is driven by its characters; I really hope this doesn't turn into a shallow action movie. Either way, good trailer, now just make sure the character development/dialogue is there to drive the story and you've got a great film.

also worried, didnt feel as good as the first trailer. The Dialog and action scenes felt like every other movie out there but with a star wars theme.

hope I am wrong. I need this to be good!
