Star Wars: The Force Awakens Final Trailer

I had a dream last night where I caught a ~20-minute preview and my worst fears came true. Half of the time wasn't even "Star Wars'-like, it was just scenes on a future Earth with Daisy and her autistic friend. One scene was extremely awkward and featured electro-house music. The only Star Wars scene I remember was Darth Vader destroying a galaxy remotely (with a Detroit techno score) and I couldn't hear a word he was saying. I thought the tone was like a cross between Marvel movies and Family Guy. I guess I found the bottom-most tier the movie could fall at.

Someone mentioned this in a vid but they had a point. Alot of shots just in the trailer alone felt like they were done without the same eye as George Lucas. Like the pat on the shoulder to Finn scene. I think in that respect, im actually pretty glad we are seeing a more modern take on this series in terms of direction

Tried to think of similar sci-fi adventure blockbusters that were 136 minutes:

That's totally a JJ Abrams shot, but I'm all for it. Its a very smooth hand-off from one to another, a show of respect and acceptance through silent body language and camera movement. I love the idea of getting a different visual aesthetic in Star Wars, and I think because of Abrams revence for the series, he might tone down of his more irritable tics like pointless canted/titled angles and overuse of lens flare in standard talking sequences. All the strengths, none of the weaknesses.

Abrams may traffic in basic Spielberg karaoke, but if that's as close as we get to Spielberg actually doing one of these, I'll take it. I just hope Abrams is in tune. It looks like he is.

The part that stands out to me the most in even watching just the trailers, not the full movie, is how Lucas always had his characters moving right to left, back and forth front shots when characters would talk.

Here, everything is so much more dynamic. My favorite shot of the new trailer is Poe walking by Finn and giving him that reassuring pat on the shoulder.

I always remember the part of the Plinkett reviews highlighting how many times two characters walk and talk along a corridor of some kind.

I'll take Abram's style over Lucas' any day of the week, though maybe with less lens flare. I know that's a running joke, that Star Wars shouldn't be as bright and shiny as Star Trek.

The problem with the PT Jedi is that they go from 'I can only protect you, I can't fight a war for you' to an army of spec-op commandos in a war that they really have no business in. The Clone Wars series is terrible in this regard, it was a cash grab that totally destroyed what Jedi were portrayed as in the OT. They were once a spiritual warrior-monk society that were 'guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy', and between the prequels and Clone Wars they turned into a militaristic order of disposable superheroes whose heads were stuck up so high their own asses that they couldn't see the forest for the trees.

The PT really destroyed everything good about Star Wars..

They were etablished as undemocratic instance within the republic in the prequels. What kind of bullshit is that?

That pat was a homage to Luke reuniting with Biggs on Yavin IV. Now Finn reunites with Poe. The movie is full of repetitions that I'm not sure I agree with. They may have done the same movie while trying to capture the same feel.

Can you please link to the advanced footage you seem to have seen on which you can further explain this thesis?

Not sure what you mean..

Desert planet
Backwater teen with something the Empire wants on the run
Han Solo and Falcon
Arrive at a site full of Imperials on special quest
Ground fighting
Spaceship combat
Flight to a forest planet
Meet buddy in hangar
Spaceship combat against superweapon
Even another Trench

I mean...

This would have been awesome if for no other reason than Obi-wan and Anikan's relationship would already have been established.

I think the setup that they went with should have been way more than enough time to really build that relationship since they had 3 movies. As we know, though, they weren't able to properly do that.

I laughed loudly at citing "Ground fighting", "Spaceship combat", and "humans greeting each other in a hangar".

Might as well put "lightsaber duels" "spaceships" "robots" and "aliens with laser weapons", too.

spoiler alert: the new Star Wars movie will have many elements present in other Star Wars movies

I want to see the longer scene in The Force Awakens that makes him so sure that the movie will be a rehash of the OT.

Sorry, thats just a so illogic jump to conclusion. I would bet money that Poe and Finn never meet before Finn, Daisy and Han arrive at Starkiller base.

How can Finn have Poes jacket all movie long then?

Its uncomfortable to me that the whole thing is in the exact same order plotwise. Whatever.

Wow, Space Combat and ground fighting. Are you serious, this are you arguments? Lol

Wait and watch the fucking movie before you jump to conclusions. Or post the link to the torrent or whatever thing to did to watch the movie 2 fucking months before it played in cinemas. Because otherwise you make your pretty cool synopsis with incredible surprising elemts like "The Empire (which is not even the empire, its the fucking first order, man!)" is there and stuff like "people greeting" and "Space combats in a star wars movie" up for fucks sake.

The superweapon is not even that what you think it is, my god.

Sounds like a Star Wars movie to me.

Even if it's a rehash, it'll still be better than the last three movies.

Haven't half of you people been wanting a remake of the original anyway????

If this movie starts with the fanfare and opening crawl I'm walking out of the theater. Just rehashing the other movies at that point.

You can't figure out homages, symbolism, motifs and all that literary shit from a total of four minutes of disjointed footage. Calm down.

Speak for yourself. I now know that Ren is actually the son of Palpatine who will turn to the light side in the second movie only to be betrayed by the Ewoks in the third. Don't be jealous just because you can't extrapolate properly.

If people were more familiar with Mad Max, they probably could called Fury Road a Road Warrior rehash, too. With its post-apocalyptic desert settings, tanker chases, downfall of civilization openings, broken shotguns, music boxes, booby-trapped vehicles, bad guys in scary masks, dudes tied to the front of vehicles, pole vaulting on trucks, a group of people trying to reach a seemingly mythological paradise, hell Max wears the same damn jacket and rides in the same car, too.

And don't get me started on Terminator 2

I heard from a friend of a friend that this movie has human beings in it.

Such a fucking rehash, why can't these people come up with new ideas once in a while for fuck's sake.

I can't deal with this shit. I'm out on this movie.

Enjoyed the Full of Sith podcast on the trailer by the way.

Thanks! I lucked out by getting some really, REALLY good panelists. Tried to get Collins from Oxygen but couldn't get that hooked up.

It's not super in-depth, but then again, that's what the regular shows are gonna be for. I think Making Star Wars did FOUR HOURS on theirs.

I'm not really a big podcast listener so a one hour analysis without spoilers was exactly what I wanted really.
