I hope/wish he can still work on Ep VIII.
I'll be perfectly honest. A lot of my enjoyment from my favorite movies comes from the soundtrack or a specific composer. When Williams goes, my enjoyment of these movies is going to drastically diminish. Giacchino ain't gonna fill that void. Rogue One will be the test for me on this, but my guess is the movie won't grab me the way the Williams - scored ones will.

It just isn't gonna happen for me.

That guide is cool, but I still plan on watching every ep when my set comes in. I hope those early seasons aren't too bad.

i legit hope there's no opening scrawl. i just want the movie to go IN.

That would be crazy. There has to be a crawl. Come on.

People have been contemplating this could be the very first shot of the film. The usual star field comes up after studio logos, the opening crawl goes past over that star field, then instead of tilting down like it usually does to some space scene the whole thing opens up revealing Rey, and you realize it wasn't stars at all but specs of light bleeding through holes in some panel that she takes off.

And I think her opening line of dialog in the trailer actually gets at exactly what you are saying. Who is she? She believes she's no one. Just some small, insignificant nobody in the vast galaxy.

I haven't read the spoilers but I think that first scene of the trailer will happen after she watches a spaceship take off from that general direction. That scene of her at the bazaar, then the first shot of the second teaser with Rey on speeder, then her entering the star destroyer, before the attack on Jakku we've seen several times. The first two scenes can be alternated though I guess.

Chris Weitz and Chris McQuarrie have both done passes on Rogue One after Whitta turned in in his draft and left the project.

Chris McQuarrie is the one that actually makes me confident. You had Whitta at first and then Chris Weitz, who wrote and directed Twilight 2, to which afterwards he swore he was done with filmmaking. So yeah, color me a bit skeptical had it not been for McQuarrie, who just delivered MI Rogue Nation, which was the shit.

Garry Whitta only did the first draft and is no longer even listed as one of the writers in the more recent Rogue One press releases.

Example:
Rogue One is the title for the first film in a unique series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga. Rogue One will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla) and written by Oscar nominee Chris Weitz (Cinderella, About a Boy, Antz). The first actress cast is Felicity Jones, who garnered an Academy Award nomination and critical acclaim for her performance in The Theory of Everything. The idea for the story of Rogue One came from John Knoll, an Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor and chief creative officer at Industrial Light & Magic.

The latest official releases credit Weitz as the screenwriter and John Knoll for story.

Weitz has done solid work. Twilight isn't the barometer by which you judge anything by, really.

This may be true, but Golden Compass is the only other thing I have to go by personally. Still, not a great barometer. I'm usually more respectful than this, so I guess this is my piece of shit day.

That guide misses out a lot of good to great episodes. With the honourable mentions included there's still quite a lot.

This.
The guide focuses on the best episodes. But there's a lot of good ones the guide misses or places under honorable mentions

And its not like the first 2 seasons are bad. They're just eh, ok

Please
There are guides for this

if i could be hyperbolic here for a second
every single one of those character pictures looks so fucking horrible and unappealing it makes me angry just looking at them. god i hate the way that show looks

end hyperbole

Pretty sure the RFR guys found out that it wasnt.

RFR guys had nothing to do with it. Ali Arikan of Slate wrote an article that night, and the people who worked on the trailer reached out to him, and then some other people came out of the woodwork and added their names. Slashfilm helped disambiguate who did what.

One production house helped on the Force theme parts, another did the piano build to Han Solo & the Princess.

This is the other problem with that image getting shared so much.

Why didnt they use Williams music tho? Was it not ready? Loved the trailer music nonetheless.

When something needs to be explained to be "appreciated".

It does look silly, but it's not like that whole segment isn't super over the top. I mean, they freaking jump that thing falling down a lava waterfall.
