It sounds a lot like Binary Sunset but it's different.
I guess it's new?

It is Binary Sunset with some additional undertones to it. Just some subtle background changes to the tones. Its is subtle but great given the image we are seeing in particular.

Which also makes me disappointed he's not directing the second (or third) film.
Yeah, but Rian Johnson? If they go the darker, trying tone of Empire Strikes back for VIII, they nailed it. I feel JJ is the perfect person to establish the new tone, and Rian is someone who can bring some edge.

Bring Brad Bird in for IX and I'll lose my mind.

After seeing what I'm seeing I'm inclined to having him back as well.

The film at the very least has fucking NAILED the imagery. I still cannot get over that first scene with the downed Star Destroyer.

I hope that the 2nd Film can keep the same sense of cinematography.

I am sure this has been asked but this thread is a behemoth so I'm sorry:

Do we know if this is the trailer expected to be attached to Age of Ultron?? Or will that be a full proper trailer?

Bit of fun.

I'm gonna wait to see what Rian Johnson does. From his past work, he's a pretty good choice for a Star Wars sequel.

I agree. But While he is busy with VIII, JJ can be gearing up for IX. But based on what Rian has done I would also have him back. Seems better to defer to one of those two, rather than pull in a third person.

You know, it might be good for JJ to take a break. We saw how guys like Christopher Nolan and Sam Raimi get burnt out by the third film of these trilogies.

My theory, when Luke says "my father HAS it," he is referring to Vader. He'll pull the "from a certain point of view" thing from Obi-Wan.

Worth it for the Star Destroyer alone.

I'm 42 going on 7 again having watched that.

I had the biggest stupid grin at work when I watched it, shed a small man tear at the end too. Not afraid to admit it, that was my childhood RIGHT FUCKING THERE!

that was legit rad. the opening shot with the cruiser (?) crashed into the planet was gorgeous.

This is a little off topic, but I was wondering if the livestream panel that aired earlier this morning with JJ and Kathleen is available to watch somewhere?

I caught a bit before I had to go into work and saw the trailer later on, but I'd like to see the whole thing!

WHY WOULD YOU EVEN TEASE ME LIKE THIS?

lol

gah i loathe the prequels. Before those things existed I was a total SW fanboy like the rest of you.

I can compartmentalize my fandom, this new movie is bringing me back to when I first saw A New Hope.

Recently it was only the games that kept my interest in the franchise.

Lol no thanks. Was willing to give him benefit of the doubt after Mission Impossible since it was kinda a director for hire gig but tomorrowland looking like shit too

Kind of agree about Tomorrowland, but MI:4, regardless of the script, looks amazing. I think he has a real eye for action.

You had my curiosity, but now, you have my attention! Honestly at first I was like maybe it'll be cool, but now?! Han and Chewie? Holy SHIT! Never thought Star Wars would or could be redeemed on the big screen. It's like I'm back in the 80's again!

I wonder why the Storm Trooper guy always looks so intense. He's always breathing heavily like he's freaking out. What's wrong with him?

I'm not usually one to prejudge a film based on a teaser, but what's presented here doesn't feel like Star Wars at all.

It has all the iconography, the music, the locations... but without the 1930s and 40s style of serial film making (that was so integral to the identity of the original trilogy) this just feels like another blockbuster to me. Watch some of those classic Hollywood films and you'll see what Lucas was going for with the type of melodrama and action in the story. All of that's missing here, replaced instead with a completely different style of shooting and dialogue/line delivery that is decidedly untheatrical in tone.

It could very well be a good film, but I'm now skeptical that it's going to be a good 'Star Wars film'. Similar to JJ Abrams's attempts with Star Trek, funnily enough.

I just don't watch them. When I'm in a Star Wars mood I watch IV through VI and that's it. Legend preserved through willful ignorance!!!

.

We literally only know 3 words of dialogue from this film.

"Chewie...we're home."
