A lot of people predicting The Punishing One (Dengars ship) as it makes sense given the pilots available for Scum. Others reckon it's high time we get more Aces sets to fix the lesser used ships.

I'd like a few fixes to existing ships instead of new ships to push the lesser used ships further into obscurity.

An "aces" set for Scum ships would be extremely welcome. Something to fix the actual Scum ships instead of the shared ships would at least push Scum into their own identity a little more.

From Manchu on Dakka:

Reports are coming out from the In Flight presentation at GenCon. Some are saying Mist Hunter, Punishing One, Inquisitor TIE, Ghost, and Gozanti-class cruiser. There is some question as to Mist Hunter. More as it comes, I'm sure!

Well that confirms Mist Hunter!
AND Gozanti!!!

Hey all, I just recently grabbed a starter kit to try this out. I had a lot of fun with the basic set, so I grabbed a second starter kit for more ships. What's the logical next step? Slave I and the Millennium Falcon?

Having a blast with it though, great game.

Go for those ships if you are a fan of them but you have any idea what your play style is? I might not be the most informed or the best at this game but Imperials players do like to do swarms.

I really like the Scum & Villainy guys, so I say go there.

That new wave seems nuts! Love that the Empire is getting their own Rebel Transport-type ship.

I've been playing Armada and it seems like a really interesting game, shame there's no new news on that front today, but I'd assume it's because we don't have Wave 2 yet and it hasn't even been a year into it's release. Ah well.

Supposedly they had a lot of issues due to that dock-worker strike back in February.

I don't really know yet, I've been playing both Rebel and Imperial sides pretty evenly. Maybe once I play more I'll start to gain a preference but I'd rather build both sides at the moment.

I haven't looked into the Scum & Villainy sets yet, do they add the option of having three teams playing at once? They'd be nice to have if that's the case.

More details on the FFG site!

That Inquisitor....so nice. I might only get the Ghost as a statue, we don't use big ships much.

There is no official rules or game modes for 3way fights but it is a separate faction and using the Mission Generator, people have made a mission or two about it.

The ships from Star Wars Rebels look real cool. I'm interested in the Ghost + Phantom combo, but that's probably going to be kinda expensive. Interesting they gave it the Firespray's arc instead of a 360. Guess that's one way of differentiating it from the YTs (though I still would be down for them putting out the YT-2000 at some point). I wonder if you lose the rear arc when you launch the Phantom.

Just realized that Dengar's Pilot card makes Bossk's Crew card suddenly viable. Attack at your own PS9 and if you miss, you get a target lock and a focus token. If your opponent is in your firing arc it certainly makes the choice of whether or not to shoot Dengar a hard one.

Heads up everyone. The Raider is off the boat.

Those in the US will probably have it within the next week. Those in the UK, like myself, will no doubt have it in about 2-3 weeks.

Still, hardcore Vader builds are coming!

Testing on Vassal the new toys (both, Imperial Raider and Wave 7), I've been having a blast and pretty good results with this list:

"Deathrain" (26)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Extra Munitions (2)
Proximity Mines (3)
Proton Bombs (5)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Darth Vader (29)
Predator (3)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
TIE/x1 (0)

Lieutenant Colzet (23)
Accuracy Corrector (0)
TIE/x1 (0)

Total: 100

Vader is a beast, Deathrain is hilarious once you get used to all his trickeries, and Colzet is a fantastic troll.

As variant A, downgrade Colzet to a Tempest, give him Twin Ion Engines, and switch Proximity Mines for Cluster.
Variant B (the original version I tried, actually), Colzet out, Dark Curse + Shield Upgrade and Proton Rockets for Vader in.
Variant B.2, instead of Dark Curse+Shield, Night Beast + Shield and Twin Ion Engines.

This is a list I want to give a go once we get the new wave:

==================
16 Obstacle Course
==================

100 points

Pilots
------

Scimitar Squadron Pilot (21) x 3
TIE Bomber (16), Extra Munitions (2), Proximity Mines (3)

“Deathrain” (37)
TIE Punisher (26), Advanced Sensors (3), Extra Munitions (2), Proximity Mines (3), Proximity Mines (3)

I am just going to be planting mines everywhere.

I went to GenCon and totally neglected to post photos from the show floor in this thread -_- I'm sorry, guys!

I took these with my Galaxy S5, which has a nice camera for a phone but occasionally gets potatocammy, so I apologize for that.

First, here are the photos I took of the new Wave 7 models when they were put out into Fantasy Flight's glass case:

Lastly, here are some photos of the U.S. National Championship ... under each photo I'll copy and paste my hastily-typed-on-a-phone updates that I posted to Fantasy Flight's forums that day:

This is the finals match. On the left is Jeff Berling (seventh place after day one's Swiss rounds; squadron list: Dash + Lone Wolf + HLC + Outrider + R2-D2 crew + Anti-Pursuit Lasers; 2x Blue) and on the right is Phillip Horny (13th place after day one's Swiss rounds; squadron list: Oicunn + Predator + ysanne + gunner + rebel captive + engine + proximity mine; Soontir + PtL + autothruster + stealth device + title). I believe this was turn 2.
vjEDH54.jpg

Oicunn has gotten behind the two Blues and Soontir has put a couple damage on Dash. Soontir taking fire from all three opposing ships, facing a blue. Oicunn is about to go over a rock just to turn around to stay with in firing range. The third shot of the round got one damage through to Soontir.

Turn 3:
gKp8xzt.jpg

There have got to be at least 40 people watching this in person. Oicunn just clipped the rock on a hard left and took a damage. He's already into his damage deck. A Blue K turned and clipped a debris field, taking a second stress.

Turn 4:
kTMpXIz.jpg

Dash shields are down. Update on ship status: Oicunn 3 damage, soontir 1 damage ... Dash no shields, one Blue 2 damage, other Blue not sure ... no damage at least it looks like from here.

Turn 5:
3VCXYIH.jpg

Oicunn died right after this photo. Soontir with 1 damage vs. 2 Blues and a 2-damage Dash.

Turn 6, the final one:
jnMeL3R.jpg

Dash blocked Soontir and did 1 damage with APL, bringing Soontir to 2 damage. On this turn, Soontir was destroyed and Jeff has won U.S. nationals.

Here's your 2015 U.S. National Champion, Jeff Berling:
yk812b3.jpg

I believe he came in second place last year, so he's certainly no out-of-nowhere player.

As a bonus, here's a series of photos I shot of a sandcrawler rolling through the main hall past the customer service and will call booths. I have no idea why, but there it was! And I had to get shots of it. There was a guy walking ahead of it and its two escorts shouting for people to make way and that this would be the last time to see the sandcrawler at GenCon that year (it was Saturday afternoon ... I don't know why it left a day early).

What makes me hype about that last game at the US nationals was that the guy pulled off a blocking move that triggered anti-pursuit lasers. The utilisation of such an underrated card really makes that final an excellent one.

Those photos are awesome, by the way, nice one for sharing them.

Great pics! I was at Gen Con but never played, never saw that Sandcrawler either. :)
I broke down and ordered the official Starfield playmat. After getting to see them up close I decided to get one. Not many playmat options here in Canada due to shipping and the dollar being really low. Managed to get it for $49cdn total to the door. Should replace a few lines drawn on the tablecloth quite nicely. hehe.

It's a great mat, I love mine.

    Weapons Liaison - 3
    Flight Controllers - 6
    Assault Concussion Missiles - 7

    Total: 120
  • Gladiator II-Class Star Destroyer - 62

Can anyone help me out here with some recommendations. My group is finally starting to play this and we're wanting to build around 100 point squads. I can get all of the ships for half price so budget isn't a HUGE concern but i'd like to keep the cost low if possible. I already have the base game with 2 Ties and one Xwing.

I'm looking to make a squadron that is quick and powerful but also can take a hit (like maybe a combo of one fast powerful ship and another slower more defensive ship).

I don't care what faction it is.

FUN is the most important thing to me. I don't want to lose all the time but I would rather have a blast playing my squad and lose half the time then to play a boring squad and win 3 out of 4 matches. I'm a huge fan of test your luck games and abilities in games if X-Wing has any pilots / abilities / ships that incorporate that kind of thing.

Any recommendations?

Did you coat them with primer first? Or is it just sharpies on plastic?

Nah just sharpies on plastic, though with the TIEs I coated the trim with silver metallic sharpie first to give it that metal look.

Do pick up an extra X-Wing and TIE as they include cards that aren't included with the core set.

For sheer fun, A-Wings and Phantoms provide a ton of maneuverability but might be a bit advanced for starting players. Don't invest in Scum just yet, that feels more tilted to the veteran player. Large ships are easy (Slave 1 and Millennium Falcon). I'm sure others will have much better suggestions though.

Buy one B-Wing Expansion Pack and one Millennium Falcon Expansion Pack. It'll cost $22.50 at half price.

Run Lando Calrissian with some upgrades (Falcon title, Chewbacca and Luke Skywalker crew, Veteran Instincts) alongside a naked Blue Squadron B-Wing and a naked Rookie X-Wing. It's a nice squad that can take a lot of damage and put out a lot of damage. Lando's ability helps out his wingmen, too, which you can use to pull off some shenanigans, and it sounds like you want to do that sort of thing.

The other two factions are more expensive to get into — the Empire because it generally requires more ships on the field than other factions, and the Scum & Villainy because you don't get any of their ships in the Core Set. But if you don't mind spending a little more money to try out those factions, here are a couple ideas that are both fun to fly and pretty good to boot:

Whisper w/ Advanced Cloaking Device, Fire-Control System, Veteran Instincts and Tactician
Howlrunner w/ Stealth Device and Swarm Tactics
Three Academy Pilots
Requires you to buy two TIE Fighter Expansion Packs and one TIE Phantom Expansion Pack, plus one Slave I Expansion Pack for a couple upgrade cards. Costs $37.50 at half price.

Emon Azzameen w/ Andrasta title, Seismic Charges, Proximity Mines, Proton Bombs and Gunner
Two Syndicate Thugs, each w/ BTL-A4 title, Ion Cannon Turret and Unhinged Astromech
Requires you to buy one Most Wanted Expansion Pack, one Slave I Expansion Pack and one Y-Wing Expansion Pack, plus a TIE Bomber Expansion Pack or Decimator Expansion Pack for the Proton Bombs upgrade, and either another Y-Wing or a HWK-290 Expansion Pack for the second Ion Cannon Turret. Costs $57.50 at half price if you go with the TIE Bomber instead of the Decimator for the Proton Bombs.

Okay, if you could modify the above suggestions for 250 point battles what would you change / add? Keep in mind again i'm more concerned about the fun factor than having the best most winningest combo ever...

The best way to build a list that is fun is to just build it yourself I find. So pick up a falcon, Slave 1, IG-88 to make up for some iconic large ships. Then pick up the Aces packs and the Most wanted to build up some really cool small ships (seriously, the cards and ships in the Aces packs are fantastic).

After that, it's a case of who your favourite characters/ships are, want wedge? X-Wing expansion, like the Tie Fighter? get the tie expansion (and another core set, seriously it's well worth the money), Darth Vader? Get the Tie Advanced expansion (it's meant to be the worst ship in the game so far, but Vader can still hold his own with a good backup swarm).

Take a look at the X-Wing wiki for a list of pilots and abilities, see what you like and add them in.

That's how I started, I wanted a game for me and my friends to play and just have fun flying the iconic characters, after that I started going to tournaments and spending ALL OF MY MONEY OH MY GOD

That's kind of an odd request because Fantasy Flight's two officially sanctioned point totals are 100 points ("Dogfight") and 300 points ("Epic Play"). Going from 100 points up to 300 (or even 250, which I've never played at) necessitates adding a ton more ships, and probably adding one or two of the epic ships (aka huge ships or capital ships: the Rebel Transport, the Tantive IV and the released-this-week Imperial Raider).

It also means you're going to need different strategies to be successful at that points level versus building a 100-point list. I can't easily add onto the lists I provided above to get them to 250 or 300 points and call it a day; you pretty much have to come up with different lists. You can fill up those points in a hurry by including a huge ship/capital ship, but the models are kind of expensive (but also very cool looking on a shelf when you're not using them). Missile and Torpedo upgrade cards (and the ships meant to carry them, like TIE Bombers) become more worthwhile in an Epic Play game because you have more points to play with and you probably need that firepower to take down a capital ship. Flankers like the TIE Interceptor become less useful because there are so many ships on the board that something probably has a firing arc on you, not to mention the capital ships that cover the board with their large firing arcs and long ranges. Instead of including just one of a ship, you might want to fly three or four of them together in a formation.

So those are some general pointers; I'll let you figure it out from there. A very useful online tool for building your own squadrons, by the way, is here: http://xwing-builder.co.uk/build

I'm sorry I messed up, it is for 300 point play not 250. I didn't realize it would be such a dramatic shift in strategy so thanks for the links and the information.
