Starfield had a gore system but it was removed, Bethesda confirms

In an interview with Dennis Mejillones, a former Senior Character Artist on Skyrim, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and Starfield, Kiwi Talkz asked a series of questions related to his career. These related to werewolves almost being cut from Skyrim, the Creation Engine getting complete rewrites from the ground up, and how much he loved working with Todd Howard. They also touched on the removal of more colorful gore systems.

Kiwi asked, "Why was gore removed in Starfield [specifically, like Fallout or Skyrim]?"

According to Dennis, it came down to scope and themes, "That has a lot of implications with the different suits from a technical perspective. There's a lot that has to go with it. You have to cut the helmet in a certain way; you have meat caps to the bottom where the flesh is. We had systems for all of that, and it got turned into a big rat's nest of all these things you have to count for."

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife

Translation: we don't even know how to code on our own engine anymore. Send help.

Lmao, thread filled with silly posts as expected.

Can’t be calling for devs to manage budgets properly and optimize resources and then show up to scoff at a reasonable reason for cutting out scope that wasn’t necessary.

Nobody is out there saying the issues with Starfield is because of no real gore system.

I can 100% say the boring enemies and combat would be a little more fun with a gore system.

There was a great mod for Fallout 4 that greatly improved the dismemberment system. You could blow the legs off NPCs and instead of dying they would try to sit themselves up and continue shooting until they bled out. You could blow an arm off and similarly they would still fight with the other arm, becoming more aggressive as they attacked.

I was expecting that to be the baseline in Starfield but instead they just shit-canned it all.

LMAO I think I've used that mod or similar. Makes combat situations even funnier.

Only someone with a terminal case of brain retardation (ie a shareholder) would call managing budget or optimizing ressources going back on a feature that is a staple of this type of product for years.

Nobody says the ONLY issue with starfield is the absence of gore, but its absence is very telling of the way Bethesda makes games currently and of the decrease of talent in mainstream devs today.

Gore would at least make fighting absolutely retarded enemies with zero variation a smidge more fun tho.

I side-eye every new game without some sort of at least bullet mark on enemies, at least the very basics ffs.
Even games inbetween aa and aaa lile stalker 2 or atomic hearth have bullet marks and melee marks on enemies.

Do enemies in starfiled even get bloody parts like the damn mgs2?

The whole game feel neutered, from the women to the damage system to the damn private club with silly looking dancers.

I can’t wait until elder scrolls 6 comes out and half the map is a barren ass desert with procedurally generated crap in it

Everytime i see Starfield news is them complaining about features cut or negative shit. Well yeah, you made a shit game. Too late to cry about it. They could vastly improve the entire game but they rather give you a garbage paid dlc instead. Fuck them and fuck Starfield.

I really don't get why devs admit to stuff like this. Especially with a game that didn't get glowing reviews. Just shut up about it and add it to the sequel. We get that things need to get cut at times.

Oh, well THAT would have saved it. I wouldn't mind waiting for a loading screen every 30 seconds, if I knew there was a chance I'd see some gore.
