~ State of Play | February 12, 2025 |OT| ~

bender

What time is it?
Why would you think otherwise? It's a spiritual sequel to Returnal which was discussed for some time.

I'm all for it. No game has beaten Returnal as my game of the generation so far.

Hopefully they greatly improve their roguelite implementation this time around.

Interested in Digimon Story as I enjoyed Cybersleuth. That 8020 game looks like a decent weekend. But.. generally, pretty boring State of Play.

Further evidence today that too many years and teams were wasted on GAAS trash.

This is all we have coming now. So is Cory Balrog/Barlog whatever the fuck his name
is game vaporware?

You know its bad when they are taking time out of a state of play to show playstation plus catalog game updates

Woah, GAF, wtf? That was a decent show - with quite a few games I’d not seen before. What the hell were you even expecting?

2025 is stacked as fuck, especially when you add DS2, GOY, (maybe) GTA6 and whatever Xbox games are released.

What a completely underwhelming forty minutes. I'm sure a lot of these games are going to be great, but there's nothing that really made me take serious notice.

Remastering Days Gone is hilarious.

Agreed. I'm so fucking sick of roguelikes. Such a boring, overdone genre at this point.
How about another ninja game with over the top japanese voice overs?

no? How about games with dragons?

no? How about another souls-esque game with an attractive female lead?

no? how about a gta clone thats looks like its literally just ghost recon wildlands in a bigger city and robots?
no? How about a game that takes place in a post apocalyptic or dystopian future with either zombies, robots, or monsters?

no?

have i got the remaster for you, the one you've been asking about- the one you want your Ps5 pro to be worth it after you spent nearly 1000 bucks for?
Days Gone BAYBEEEEEE.

Wow. Zero expectations and still that was terrible.

The current marketing team at Sony fucking sucks. They all need to be fired.

Watching this, the whole presentation came off like it was made by people that don’t play video games and don’t interact with their customers. Like someone said “based on the top 10 games sold this year, people want to shoot guns and chop things and can we get something that looks a little bit like final fantasy”.

Absolute fucking morons, never have I observed a group of people that are so out of touch.

Ill only believe in this one when I see it .. no rumors can convince me that this current woke California Sony greenlighted this game.

Well I've got to say I enjoyed that. Loads of stuff that excites me, especially that tides of annihilation and mindseye.
Only downside for me was the housemarque game didn't show any in game stuff, not a fan of CGI reveals.
All in all top level show that

Ninja gaiden shadow drop, new NG4 and Doom? come on man nothing new shown here lived up to any of that. Housemarks new game was a bright spot but no gameplay sucked.

New Housemarque reveal
New Shinobi game
New footage of Onimusha
New MGS3 trailer (leaked, but whatever)
New footage of Borderlands 4
New Sonic Kart Racer
Supermassive’s new Dead Space inspired thriller
Tales of Annihilation which looked awesome
Lies of P expansion
Days Gone Remaster

Nah, there was a lot of great content here

Some people expecting E3 for a February state of play is comical

I actually thought this state of play was pretty good, lots coming out this year and I'm looking forward to at least 4 of the games announced for this year
Mgs delta, new supermassive game, lies of p dlc and days gone remastered look like some fun to be had.(I didn't play days gone on ps4)

I don't think otherwise. I just with that it weren't one. Returnal was great in spite of it's roguelike elements, not because of them.

If this was already known it's news to me, this is the first I'm hearing of what Housemark has actually been working on.

D-. Sony showing their new IP with a CG trailer is like going full 2020 era microsoft. You never go full retard.

Even a couple of good games they had didnt have enough time to shine. Focus on gameplay. Let these games breath. Cant believe MS is doing better shows now. I feel like I am living in bizarre world where MS is literally doing shows using Sony's old format while Sony is going full shovelware like MS did during the kinect era.

Where is Kojima? Where is Sucker Punch? You have games launching this year and they dont show up in the state of play?
WTF are you guys doing? Stop jerking off and get back to work you lazy bums.
Cancel Work From Home.
Reinstitute crunch.
If it leads to divorces then fine, broken men make great art.

If your 20 PS Studios cant show up with gameplay even for one game in your own state of play then fire your first party studio head then sue his incompetent ass for malpractice for taking the best goddamn first party portfolio and just mismanaging the fuck out of it.
to some degree you are not wrong, death stranding and ghost of les.. this year and no gameplay ....

Disappointed in no Marathon personally.

Ghost will more than likely get its own dedicated State of Play. They would’ve explicitly said it like their past ones if they were showing gameplay. As for Death Stranding, an event has already been announced for SXSW next month. More information will be revealed there.

I'm a Sony fan, but I I have to admit, Sony game development lost this generation, exclusives are so few and they keep on porting exclusives to PC. Ryan and Hulst killed sony games development of exclusive SP games. Ps6 might be its renaissance after learning from there mistakes but that's 4 years form now and long way to go.

Forgot about the Xbox stuff....good point

I'll take Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Lost Records: Bloom & Rage. Roguelike and soulslike games are the kiss of death for me, hate them with a passion!

People are worried and frustrated about the lack of First Party updates I'd say

Not to be a dick, but why the hell would anyone care about from where the games are coming? It makes no sense to me.

The primary purpose of these SOP shows is to spotlight the next quarter, with the odd long-term reveal sprinkled in to introduce them to the market. I made a post describing the format earlier this evening... and guess who won the pony? I did.

At the end of the day these are mainly trailer collections, so if a title is sufficiently high profile that it can stand alone... then there's basically nothing to be gained from their inclusion. They might as well just issue a press release to the major sites, the PS Blog and then upload to YT. The same thing gets accomplished. Obvious example is something like Death Stranding 2, Kojima is going to hype it by himself way more effectively than one of these shows will.

Which is fundamentally why I found all the negativity so astoundingly retarded. Back in the day E3 and the other big trade fairs were significant because it was a huge one-stop-shop for information and reveals that you wouldn't otherwise get. These days with all the significant advanced marketing being internet-based, and thus 24/7 365 days a year, the significance of showcases is diminished to almost nothing.

Especially now that Xbox has basically retreated behind Game Pass, and Nintendo is yet to ramp-up the hype on Switch 2, its not like Playstation has any competition, and thus audience to court away from their offerings. The whole "big show"deal is redundant.

Let's just remake your list with normal eyes :

- New Housemarque reveal
- Already revealed Shinobi game
- Already revealed Onimusha
- Already revealed MGS3 trailer (leaked, but whatever)
- Nobody cares about footage of Borderlands 4
- New Sonic Kart Racer that looks bland and multiplatform anyway
- Supermassive’s new Dead Space inspired thriller => another Until Dawn clones DEI injected
- Tales of Annihilation which looked beautiful but we know nothing about it nor the team doing it. Could be just a bunch of bosses and very linear and enclosed areas to explore.
- Lies of P expansion (I guess... I don't know what is wild about an expansion but OK ?)
- Days Gone Remaster => Are you serious ? How is that a good thing ?

Personally from a Playstation state of play id like to see at least a couple of big Playstation studio titles. A deep dive and release date for Yotei would have been nice, a gamplay trailer and beta announce for Marathon, at least a few snippets of gameplay from Housemarks new title or Intergalactic. Hell would it hurt for another Wolverine trailer at this point ? or a Venom Trailer?

Maybe im weird, but thats what i expect. Not all them of course but a couple would have been nice.

Show wasn't terrible, but wasn't great either. That futuristic GTA game looked ok and supermassives Thing in space rip off looked interesting.
