I don't use key resellers. On one hand I don't trust these sites, I don't know where they get their keys or how they can afford to undercut everyone the way they do and on the other you lose out on potential bonuses for pre-ordering or being able to pre-load the game if you don't buy the game through Steam. I know a lot of people have been using Green Man Gaming for a while now but I just don't trust these 3rd party key resellers.
The wait may hurt, the end result doesn't. Ain't no polish like Valve Polish.
GMG isn't a key reseller.....
[edit] Alright, let's clear one thing up. GMG isn't a key reseller. Key resellers buy physical copies of games for cheap and then resell those cd keys online. GMG (like gamersgate, amazon, etc) has contracts with publishers to sell their games online. Buying a game from gmg (especially a steam key) is no different from buying from any other authorized seller.

But that's EVERYBODY. Even Steam/Valve buys copies of the game and resells them. Key reseller has become a negative expression for shady sites, that heavily exploit price differences based on region or even participate in Credit Card theft.
If you are going to say that then Amazon is a key reseller as well. They are reputable businesses.
They buy keys straight from the Pub. If you don't trust GMG then may as well label Amazon a key reseller since they buy keys including getting Pubs to give them special steam keys that wouldn't exist otherwise.

Why would Steam or rather the people in charge over at Valve tell any game journalists. It's not like they could disclose the date so seems kind of pointless.
GMG gets the keys directly from the publishers or developers, it's all official. Key resellers buy games in bulk from third/second world countries, scan the key and then throw out the box or ship it back along with a crack or something. They aren't remotely the same thing.
Especially when Steam has had problems for years, recently broke offline mode, now has a crash and/or app freeze and refuses to connect every single time it's launched for the first time on fresh bootup now, DOTA 2 grinds the hard disk like crazy every time it updates, and if memory serves me right, quite a few TF2 updates break crazy things, introduce bugs, or what have you. And when something popular happens like a game release or an event, Valve's servers go down or go crazy.
I like Valve, but they have so many janky things that it kind of boggles my mind how people act like they're super polished.

You know what feature I'd like in Steam? Plugins. They've opened up so much of their game tools for the community to play with that I'd like to see the same happen with the client. It doesn't have to be letting people get deep down into the program where they could exploit things, but if someone could add a right click context menu entry to create save folder symlinks with my dropbox folder I'd be super happy.
I'm sure that the community could find a lot of ways to improve things in the client, like auto categorization based on genre, notification popups when wishlisted games go on sale, a clock showing how much time as passed since the last Half-Life release for easier complaining, etc. There are a lot of people out there who would love to tackle some of these things and have some great ideas that many of us could use.

My comment was more in regard to Valve's games than the Steam client.
(That said, I distinctly recall a lot of faux outrage regarding Portal 2's "please don't turn off your console" message when saving a game in the PC version!)TF2 is my the Valve game I play the most, and it's been super janky at times. The Russian resellers you're thinking of are usually wholesale stealing crates of physical copies and then ripping the keys. Bit of a distinction there.

Gabe stated years ago that they wanted to bring extensions to steam, so users could help build it into a better client. The problem is that still hasn't happened, I'm guessing because of valve time but didn't the team working on steam leave a year or two ago? It's probably why things are taking so long, big picture mode, no real new features to the client at all. Small tweaks and bug fixes but never anything users really want, like the download options we have been asking for years.
If origin wasn't owned by EA then it could be seen as a decent contender. Nothing else out there has pushed valve to improve steam so I get the feeling we are pretty much stuck with what we have for a good while.
holy crap at Offspring Fling's soundtrack. No one warned me about this. It's like 16 bit RPG orchestrated music. The visuals are great but this is easily the strongest part of the package, wow.

Can you link to a source of this? I was always under the impression Steam was manned like any other Valve project, rotating staff. I would think since they have multiple games in development, and Steam doesn't have any massive, glaring issues, that it doesn't get a lot of focus. When Valve has a new feature to show off, they'll let us know.

Well think of it this way. Down the line it will go down in price, if not, it will be featured in some Bundle or not. Having said that If you enjoyed the demo and feel you'll enjoy the full product, no point not to pull the trigger though. It's cheap =)
Personally I'm not a fan of the game type, but want to support it. Although at the current price point, or slightly higher, I can currently buy other games I want to support/ wanted to buy for a long time.

How about sending a message? Can you imagine XBL or PSN without the ability to send a message? Makes no sense why it isn't in there. That's one of the reasons I like gfwl. There's already a little mailbox icon at the top right where you get to see new invites or gifts, why not have it be messages as well

You can comment and it will show up in the mailbox the next time the person is onilne but it's not private like xbl or psn.

I've had few problems with it, but it pops up all the time so it's clearly an issue.

Well, both can be the same if you just want to leave one message, but in terms of viewing conversation history, leaving multiple messages, being able to see the thread of conversation, etc. it's not really the same. Also from a UI perspective them being able to reply directly when they get it rather than have to click through and send a message is a benefit. Also, the fact that you have a visual notification versus having to vanity-go-to-your-own-profile to see the message
