Speaking of System Shock, I hope we get a glimpse at Doug Church's Valve project in the (relatively) near future. He's been there more than two years now.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
I got the impression from most people who played SS1, either when it came out or recently (as recent as SS2 coming back on GOG) that it aged pretty poorly in nearly every department and is a pretty big hassle to get running. Just playing it seems to be completely archaic somehow.
System Shock Portable makes it easy to run the game apparently.

But yeah, I agree that they probably wanted to lead with their strongest foot first.

Seems like they've dumped it in favor of expanding the Recent Game Activity and making it more useful by including the last played date for the last 6 played games.
It would be nice to have the option of showing these things or not. It should be that way for most of the information shown on a profile. The ability to selectively opt out of showing any/all information.

this is glorious btw look at it
one of the best new things, shows all your played games
only thing is i'd prefer if it was styled like they are on the profile page and included the last played date, and also looks like only the first 10 show achievements for some dumb reason
I really miss the "Hours played in the last two weeks" display though. It was a nice feature to keep your playing time and the future missus in a balance..

I really liked that too. I would actually stop playing things to keep my weekly hours down. I do like the new dated line breaks in the friend activity section though.

They didn't need greenlight as they already have a game on Steam (Sanctum), atleast that's how I think it works.

I don't think Valve has (or had, as the case may be) an official stance on this. Primordia had to be greenlit despite Wadjet Eye already having a bunch of games on Steam (granted, the game was created by a developer new to Steam) and while SCS was able to release the original Euro Truck Sim via the standard channel after the sequel was greenlit, Snowbird Games was told that to get the original Eador on Steam without going through Greenlight again, it'd have to be as a pre-purchase incentive.

They're asking you to pay money for Sonic 4. I didn't see an update to patch out it being a broken piece of crap.

Yeah, it's the only thing that bugs me about the new profile. I liked that last two week tally, if only to remind me that I play video games way more than I thought I did.

The law says yes. You are supposed to claim those and pay sales tax on your Internet purchases regardless if the site charges sales tax or not. Tax tax tax tax. Govt waste don't pay for itself you know.
Not internet purchases, profits from the sale of digital items. I believe there is a limit to the sale of appreciated assets, it might be $400, where anything above that requires you to report it. Which is why I think garage sales tend to be exempt. I have always wondered about Hat type drops though. Aren't those more along the lines of "gifts"? ;O

Also, since you can't actually transfer "profits" made from the Steam market into legal tender, they sit in your Steam wallet until you "purchase" non-protected digital access to various digital services, almost like using a rental service, how can that be taxed?

I wonder if, hypothetically, Steam used a fake currency like MSP, then would it be exempt?

I knew I read there was a 200 transaction limit per year. I guess that's what they were talking about. I'm sure it is some law they have to comply with, but it does kind of suck anyone would have to pay taxes on store credit though. Although I suppose you could "withdraw" the money easily enough by trading new games for paypal credit.

EDIT: And since there's no limit (like I once thought), I wonder how possible it is to manipulate the markets. Like there was a huge influx of people selling their cards. But people have a finite supply they can generate. And if you want to craft them, you need at least 50 percent more cards. Now that supply is beginning to slow a little, you could theoretically target a single card in a set. And purchase any available card that listed below a certain price. If you controlled the majority of the available cards, you could cockblock people from crafting a set unless they bought from you. You could charge a premium and make money probably. Of course, it'd be a lot easier if it was automated (which apparently is grounds for banning).

Well I will try, don't know which adress and po box use though
People often use Google's address in California.

That Sonic Racing is the bad one, right? This pack would be insane if it was the new one. I'd like to own Sonic CD and see if Generations is as good as people say, but even at $10 I'm too sour on Sonic in general these days to get it without a better game involved.
The first Sonic Racing is great. It just doesn't have online play.

Everything else in the pack is great, except for Sonic 4 which is so bad it almost makes the the pack a bad deal.

I think the first Sonic Racing is vastly superior to the second. But that's because I game in 3D. And between the second being borked @120hz and the additional input lag the game has, I'll take 1 over 2 every time. I've given up hope of Transformed ever fixing the 120hz issues.

I used a random US address found via google maps, just make sure to avoid states that charges extra taxes or something. My fictitious address is in Moses Lake, WA.

No fucking idea where that is but it sounded cool.

So who is gonna play Raid mode with me when RE:R is down to $20?

I can't find the post that really sold me on raid mode, I will try to get in touch with the guy who originally made it.

EDIT: found the post that originally sold me on raid mode

To be fair, every post Neiteio makes about a game he likes sells you on it. He's a viral marketer for fun.

Is there even a point to DotA2 invites anymore? Isn't it a game anyone can get into?

nope, still technically a closed beta.

Its really not that hard to find someone with an invite though, hint: I have 10

Want to explain a little more Jase? Sounds interesting.

They gave me 20 copies of dota, how in the fuck is that possible, more if you think that they already gave me 10 copies 2 monts ago

btw, I bought the sonic pack, thanks for everyone here

It was funny yesterday I saw the sonic pack in steam for 40 dollars, and I wondered when the game will had an steam sale, guess that the wait wasn't long

still, sad that the pack didn't included robotnik's mean machine and adventure 2, I already had transformed so it wasn't a big deal for me

Giving the invites out like they have I think is really inefficient. There are still some people who want invites (there are people who ask every day in the dota thread) and they simply don't know how available it is. I don't know how they advertise that fact to people who aren't as deep into steam though. Throw a giant banner on the main steam page, I guess, but that seems a little extreme for a closed beta.

Good point.

They really want to get the tutorial fully up and running before they make it open or even advertise it more thouroughly.

The problem is right now, without a full tutorial, LoL players will come over and dismiss it quickly for being too difficult.

The game has a massive learning curve, and really brings the difficult mechanics. Even for those experienced LoL players.

Just installed Linux in a VM and tried out Steam. Kinda sad to open my library and see only a handful of my games show up.

(At least they're good ones: Portal, Bastion, FTL and Brutal Legend.)

There's really nothing else to say on the matter :( News broke in March 2011 that he had joined Valve earlier in the month, but nothing has been said since. I can only assume he's working on a little something something because you don't hire someone with his resume and not let him make whatever it is he wants to make. Or perhaps he got sick of waiting for Half-Life 3 and decided to do something about it. :p

When it comes to who Doug Church is exactly, the above RPS article has a nice summary:

Doug Church. Doug ‘Thief’ Church. Doug ‘System Shock’ Church. Doug ‘Ultima Underworld’ Church. Doug ‘Deus Ex’ Church. Doug ‘helped (to varying degrees) design a good dozen of the most beloved PC games of all time’ Church.

Was sonic episode I port for pc really that bad?

The loading screen from the beginning of stage never finished to load, and even though I closed the game, the music was still playing, even when I opened Sonic CD

btw, I finished Sonic CD on ps3, but still wanted to see how this port was on pc, and god, taxman did such an amazing job, I really respect him
