Firewatch got the same criticism, despite
the game intentionally hammering at the point of our desire for 'more' as a means of escaping the real world
and it feels like people are missing the point and wanting games to be what they aren't.

Honestly most of the criticism towards Firewatch steems from the fact that the latter half sucks, not because people missed the point. I certainly didn't and still think it was horrible.

Gone Home, on the other hand, is great. Incredible environmental storytelling and really well developed narrative.

The input alterations made for MvC4 aren't fazing me too much yet.
I personally think that his kind of input options can work-
Traditional will keep stuff like dp motions, etc.
Simple sets it so double inputs can perform special moves, etc.
Casual lets you do Direction+Buttons to perform attacks

An input option depending on one's skill level.

Gone Home Spoilers

My biggest complaint about the game is the plot hole of the girl leaving the bus headed to basic training to be with her lover. If they would've said she left MEPS that would be fine (You're not bound by anything until you swear in). However they state that she was past that and on a bus to basic training. That is not how things work, even during that time frame. When you're on the bus to basic you're army property. You're not getting off that or you're under extreme watch. I guess she could have for some reason gotten off the bus and ran off. But that idea is so dumb that I can't over look it. Especially when she made more of a ruckus running and going awol, than her going to basic and getting out on some sort of discharge. You can either purposefully fail or get out on certain things. She would have to sit around for a little bit, but she could have gotten a paycheck or two out of the whole deal. Left and then had some money to be with her girl.

I understand it was hard for homosexuals during that time (More than it is now). But if anything she made things even harder on herself doing it the way she did.

I actually do know someone who
got off the bus on the way to basic training, so it does happen, though I agree it's super uncommon. He bailed on the Army and later joined the Air Force. Until you complete basic you can still get out at pretty much any point with very little repercussion.
(spoiler in relation to your comment but not actually about the game)

In general about Gone Home, I really enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say it was story driven game play, not in the same sense as Brothers, which I still think is the most brilliant use of a control scheme for story telling (though I found some of the story itself a bit lacking, especially
the whole sequence that kills the brother was very poorly done in my opinion
).

Tag fishing?

Don't judge. One day I will get that elusive fisting tag I always wanted.

To post somewhat on topic, I would not consider Soma a walking sim but it is in that vein. Not a ton of gameplay. I would highly recommend it though. I loved it.

Same, especially after it first released and there were so many "OMG powerful story" reactions.

I'm really glad Fullbright didn't put in some pointless twist just for the wow factor. It really kept the story grounded and something that can be appreciated outside of gaming circles. Usually games go too far, which justifies the "games aren't art" argument.

Finished Little Nightmares (review copy). Creepy atmosphere, thanks to the excellent graphics and sound/music. Super dark with great lighting and shadows. Too much stealth for my taste but then again I don't like stealth games. Otherwise filled with platforming and puzzling but it's all pretty simple. Imprecise controls at times and some badly placed checkpoints got me frustrated. Takes five hours to finish tops but there's some stuff to collect at least. Overall a kind of weird game, not sure where to place it, some parts were scary for sure but it felt more like a darker Little Big Planet with a lot of stealth. Still worth playing for the unique story/experience.

Can't wait to play this in July 2018.

Yeah SE takes forever to port games to Steam, but seems inevitable given they have almost the complete library on there.

Also i think all the crazy FF XV patching they are still doing is just prepping for a Steam complete release. They probably figure they can do the GTA 5 thing.

I really enjoyed Gone Home. There are a bunch of plot threads but the main one was something that stuck with me. Although I didn't go into it expecting anything paranormal as Steve Gaynor was pretty adamant about it not being a spoopy game.

Firewatch I also enjoyed, but not as much. The ending of it left it feeling anticlimactic, but after digesting it a bit it ended up being very appropriate -- but I still can't help but feel somewhat unsatisfied by that.

Holy shit, it's like two years after doing all the normal levels but I finally got this.

This might actually be my proudest gaming achievement. It's certainly up there with beating Super Meat Boy and getting all the endings in Volgarr the Viking. Goddamn, feels good.
Congrats! Now do 500 seconds in Devil Daggers.

You can't, actually. That NPC doesn't sell any of the critical path unmissable ones that you would've gotten up to that point.

Really? I can't remember but I've unlocked all my missing ones after about 35 hours of gameplay. This was after route A, B and C (and a few others). My memory is terrible but I thought you could buy them all, given you had enough credits.

It lists them from something like number 25 and up, so you can get all the optional/side stuff that way. I had to replay the intro again to ding two of those regular progression ones as well, heh. Made me double take when I noticed I somehow missed the two most common ones in the game.

Thanks.

I wasn't super interested in Devil Daggers before but I found out yesterday that one of the Dustforce devs worked on it. So, now I'm a little curious to at least try it out.
Dustforce destroyed my thumb to complete, and Devil Daggers my wrist. I look forward to whatever the next game is from this crew, but I'm sure my body will be sorry for it.

Nope, I had a story achievement not trigger and had to replay the chapter in Route A from chapter select since I couldn't buy it.

Hopefully we'll finally get a good look at Spire this year. It was announced a while ago but I don't think there's even been a proper trailer yet. :(

Congratulation! Only 0.3% of the owners have gotten this achievement :)

My bet is on either exactly 6 months after the console version or exactly 12 months after.

No, they take forever to release them :p

Case in point: FFXHD.
Ported in 3 to 4 months. Released 9 months later, 1 year day for day after PS4 release. I may think it's because of a deal, but I know it's a taboo to talk about the idea that Sony may moneyhat/deal things. :")
