Instructions for participants:
I am giving away a Steam key. To enter this giveaway, send a PM to ModBot with any subject line. In the body, copy and paste the entire line from the message below containing the game you want to enter for. Confused? Watch this GIF tutorial or ask for help.

Waifus aside, is DOA a good fighting series? I haven't played a single one mostly because I'm not too great at fighters. I also prefer 2D
when I play with them.

Its easy to get into it but it has depth to it. It's one of my favorite series up there with Soul Calibur. If by any chance you have a PS3 you can download Dead or Alive 5 Core Fighters which is a F2P version kinda like LoL where you pay for the characters and cosmetics.

I'm into kinky stuff (just ask my gf) do I get gamez now?

You got 10 mins there to enter one of them.

Cool. No more PS3 here but these gifs got me interested in trying it out.

I haven't played a DoA game in like 10 years. I was a wee lad, I don't even remember appreciating the boobs physics at the time. I'm so bad at fighting games these days, but I remember kicked ass in DoA. I wonder if I've still got it.

I was gonna hold off and get it when online shows up, I bet they'll have a sale to coincide with the patch... But hey, a giveaway is a giveaway.

Well, as someone who isn't good at fighting games, I think it's fun. It doesn't seem as complex as other series, but I'm not too knowledgeable on the subject.

Not really, IMO.
It's always felt like a budget version of Tekken to me. I haven't really tried 5 in particular, but I haven't much liked the series in the past.

You're incorrect as it plays more like Virtua Fighter. Just giving a bit of education.

EDIT: Also a Yaiba fan talking!!! Pfft!!
;)

Uhm... what? I WON? I DON'T THINK I EVER WON ANYTHING WORTH MORE THAN $10.

Thank you based Bayonetta. Thank you.

Well, $10 is about the going rate from Russian traders, so you're still on track, mate. :p
Not sure if that's where it came from, but DoA5 can definitely be had from traders for about that.

Do you think steam would accept a feature request for a headphone to TV audio toggle button / option in Big Picture mode? It'd be so nice to just have a toggle somewhere. At the moment I have it setup on my keyboard but that's not as nice :( I want to request it as it would be so useful

I have no idea, I haven't played it, I've just been looking forward to it coming out :p

I think InfiniteNine had access to the beta, if I remember right, so they might know more about it.

It's supposed to be a somewhat dark sci-fi linear kinetic novel inspired by sci-fi works from the 80's, and the art looks pretty good.
what's a kinetic novel -__-

Steam doesn't really like outside input... they operate on their own whims and wants. There's been a vocal group (of which I am one) asking for an option to disable BPM completely and yet, 2 years or so later, who knows if we'll ever see it.

But go create a topic somewhere in steamcommunity forums, I guess? it couldn't hurt.

I always click no because I fear that the game comes with an old version of some driver that overwrites my current one. Or is that not how it works? Does a game from 2006 come with the latest directx?

It's not going to overwrite DX11 or whatever. It's just going to add whatever piece of the old DirectX stuff it needs to do whatever it is the game needs to do.

You need to say yes when it asks you to install stuff the first time you run a game.

strangely excited for the sale, even if I barely buy stuff these days (well not barely, but most indie stuff that I would buy in a heartbeat at 75% off in the old days I dont anymore because...well, it will just be bundled eventually. Man I remember my cart full of 15-20 indies at like 2-3€ a pop...good times). I still think its exciting to see the new deals, the fancy store splash pages (the store looks so boring after sales), the price mistakes (or not, judging from the thanksgiving sale), etc

I'll ask and then wait to see if I can hear crickets :) why would you disable BPM??? It's glorious, or do you mean just hide the toggle button?

Here's the directx explanation from Valve , abracadaver:

Running the DirectX installer is not a matter of making sure your overall DirectX install being up-to-date. Microsoft has a helper library with D3D called D3DX. You'll find binaries for this like d3dx9_43.dll in your Windows\system32 folder. There are over 40 different versions of the D3DX library for D3D9 alone, and many more for D3D10 and 11 as well. Each game that uses the D3DX helper library is linked to a specific version. As such the game must run the correct D3D installer version that it was specifically compiled with to ensure the binaries exist.

Even if a later version of the binary is already installed, that version cannot be used, and even if your DirectX install is up-to-date because you've run a more recent version of the installer that is not guaranteed to have installed all previous versions. Even worse, if a version is installed for x86 it doesn't guarantee the same version is installed for x64, so 64 bit and 32 bit games may need to run the same exact installer version but targeting different platforms when run.

Furthermore, Microsoft's licensing terms prevent anyone from distributing the files directly, the only way to distribute them is to run the installer, that's also the only supported method from Microsoft to check that the correct version installed. Trying to manually check for the correct versions is extremely complicated because there are numerous files that must all be present and individual system configuration options like dll search paths complicate the situation. In addition, the dependencies and required checks may change in each new version of the D3DX runtime. The code to check correctly and repair broken installs all exists in the installer and running it is a guarantee that the correct binaries will exist when you run the game and prevents lots of bad cases where a game would fail to launch with an obscure error if a windows install was either missing the correct version or somehow corrupted in the past.

You don't need to counter him in that fight. NGZ mode gives you such an open arena to stay away from him and move in safely that the fight is nothing compared to the *near* 1-hit death with bad camera angles during that second round of the fight. As much as I love Yaiba, I was getting seriously sick of the intro to that fight... and no matter how much I tried to channel my inner Yaiba, repeating "I know exactly what's going to happen", it turned out I was bluffing most of the time. :p
I had fought him enough that countering and dodging was incredibly easy for me to do and made the fight really easy (even on the higher difficulties). Something about fighting him in NGZ mode completely threw off my counter timing. I think I had to burn two blood lust on him and still had to resort the Kratos school of roll like crazy and square square triangle (I think it's the same button combination as well). I was also probably tired after fighting back to back robot dogs beforehand so that probably made it harder.

It's a type of visual novel that offers no choices. You don't interact with its story.
oh, alright

i don't necessarily like that but if it's done well i don't mind it either

but i'm not one that generally plays vns in the first place

game looks pretty alright, i wish there was a pricepoint already
