I already left a small message on my Activity feed for the people on my friends list a couple of hours ago but might as well leave something similar in here.

I honestly hope that everyone can have a good day weather you are celebrating the Holiday/Christmas season or not. Hope you can all have a hot meal, some memories to share and I hope you can be with your loved ones from family members, lovers and close friends. SteamGAF has been a house for me for quite some time. It's a great place to discuss a lot of themes regarding this hobby of ours and I feel quite lucky to have you all every time I decide to talk about a certain game. For the last years I've met some incredible people, many with different ways of thinking or even different ways of engaging life. It's funny, because while I don't exactly know you all I... feel I know quite a few members, more than the name or the avatar and this is what the community is all about.

I'm not going to lie, I felt a bit emotional when time was not kind to me and I had to be away from SteamGAF (and GAF in general) and when I got some time it felt very warm to the heart to see the same friendly "faces" I've met along this years saying "welcome". This is a great community and I truly respect every GAFfer. I just wanted to thank you all for all the help, the kindness, the conversations about everything. I hope I helped you out when you were in need of help, I hope you can forgive me if I let you down somehow, I hope you don't hate me simply because you don't like me or the way I talk. I am incredibly lucky because all those years I learned what really, really matters in life, just like the people I live everyday, my lovers, my friends, my family, you all also made a positive impact on my life, for good. I thank you all for your patience and friendship, for all the laugh and silly moments. There's so many different people in here, yet, I feel most of us learned something from each other. I know this might sound really lame for many, others will simply put me on ignore but I have never given up on building a better community, on having a place that is friendly and can welcome anyone because that is what really matters in here, to have fun and respect each other. I'm blessed for having the chance to talk with you all and I hope you know this. Thank you all for everything, honestly. :')

Thank you for your kind words Monk, I wish you a Merry Christmas :D

It's not a workaround; rather, publishers generally forget to region-lock the gift sub that's awarded upon activating the gift/key.

I'm pretty sure it's actually broken:

https://steamdb.info/sub/45471/ is clearly region locked. Both current default locking and no cross region trading flag.

Yet, I was able to activate a copy from Russia successfully. It had warning without any countries listed.

NOOOOOO!!!!11!1 Chariot-sama, why?!

It feels weird vouching for someone, you know? Like you're not sure if they turn out to be a douchebag and then that's on you because you said they were okay?

*scans list anyway*

You blocked CHUBIGANS?! Chariot, that's just...what is this...I don't even...
I dom't know, it's difficult to remember names of non-anime characters ;___;

Well, I'm green and my heart is two sizes too small. Boris Karloff wouldn't touch me with a 39 and a 1/2 foot pole, if his opinion matters.
Inner beauty matters, not Boris Karloff.

just got a booster - not crafted, hah.
decided to open it since prices plummeted and also to bolster my set for crafting.
crafted badge and got this

to my surprise this is the second winter foil!
the first went for 1€. this..
hm. welp.

Also it just turned Christmas here half an hour ago, merry Christmas SteamGAF.

I'm off for the night.

Merry Christmas!

Aww, I blocked so many good people. Ok, but this can be a good thing. Here's the list. I already sorted some out. Help me to clean the list of everyone cool. Then we can get a list out of it that can help to reject people who are not part of the community if anyone has the need for it for whatever reason.

Eh, the onlyallowrun tag hasn't really been used in recent times. Technically, with Valve basically applying the acrtag to everything from the store, it should also apply to the gifts from the 4 pack. That's why I consider it a workaround, especially since it's not the publisher applying the tag, it's Valve itself locking everything from the store in those regions, even when the game was previously ROW.

Valve's method automatically applies ACRTAG to purchased subs. It wasn't a blanket change to every sub in the registry -- that's why it wasn't retroactive (and why SteamDB didn't pick up on it).

Edit:
I'm pretty sure it's actually broken:

https://steamdb.info/sub/45471/ is clearly region locked. Both current default locking and no cross region trading flag.

Ah, strange. I seem to recall seeing region-locked bonus gifts at some point.

Alright. I hope this works now.
I was gonna make it a 15 min raffle but apparently forgot to type "short". Ohwell. A sign that I should go to sleep! Happy holidays everyone!

Well... I'm gonna have to try my luck at this. It looks like it could be excellent for lans.

Nice giveaway btw, and merry christmas! :)
Okay, this could actually work.

I'd personally prefer if it was reverse. Big ole Steam logo, and STEAM at the bottom in a small font.

Might just be me though.

I know you from the times I've been lurking without an account here, your "fellow GAFfer" catchphrase is a classic! :D (Oh boy that one time when you told someone that he isn't a fellow GAFfer, that's when you know you dun goofed). You're just too kind, love your attitude, just keep being awesome. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! :)

Don't think I've ever played this. I confused it with Ultima I for a few moments. They look remarkably similar.

That also makes four of the Ultima games that are currently free on GOG (this, IV, Ultima Worlds I/II).

Akalabeth was Garriot getting his toes warm as a game designer, definitely a blood relative of Ultima I. I actually posted about the free game in the gog thread yesterday, because I wasn't sure if GOG stuff was allowed in here or not (plus the gog thread needs love too).

I beat Ultima I back in the day, but never got a chance to play Akalabeth back then.

I miss those days... all the Ultima games were so well packaged, with tons of well produced goodies (cloth maps, well written monster and spell manuals, goodies (like a baggie of coins of the realm)).... no 'special edition' bs, that's just how games came.

Those were the days. Though $3 gems on Steam come close.

Playing through Guacamelee! and it's barely hooking me. The controls a tad annoying with regards to turning around, combat isn't much fun, though it isn't bad. Figure I'll slog through til the finish because it's good enough for that I guess, but otherwise I'm let down.

yea, i didn't feel guacamelee did anything to remain in my head more than what was necessary
Drive-by "Outland is Guacamelee done right" post. Guacamelee's only strengths are it having a pretty visual style with character (disregarding the memes here) and the combat feeling smooth once you roll cancel everything in order to abuse the ridiculous amount of invincibility frames, whereas everything else is either far too easy or lacks depth to remain engaging all the way through... for what's an already short experience. I wasn't very impressed by it either and funnily enough the Super Arcade Turbo Whatever Edition makes it even less difficult than before, so at best it's a polished yet ultimately subpar game.

Outland on the other hand is a lot more interesting on a conceptual level. There's actual challenge to speak of so you can't just auto-pilot through it, the platforming requires more precision, is more varied and overall feels smoother, the bosses are memorable and put up a fight (spider alert for zkylon however), polarity swapping is taken further than how Guacamelee handles it et cetera. Also no tacky sense of humor or prolonged exposition that harms the game's pacing. Its only shortcoming (comparatively speaking) is the combat not feeling as tight, but it's still serviceable. Definitely a gameplay component that's due for re-iteration in a hypothetical sequel, which I hope Housemarque is taking into consideration after they wrapped up all their other announced titles, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it deterred my enjoyment.

In other words, take a gander at Outland if you haven't already.

I still have Jormungand on my "to watch eventually" anime list... it's only a little bit worse than my game backlog list.

Speaking of which, finally started to dig into the latter list and fired up Ys I a few hours ago. It's been pretty fun for the most part, but the old-schoolness of it is finally starting to kick in with the labyrinthine dungeons that are so poorly lit you can barely see around you and monsters that can kill in only a handful of hits. Wonder if there's some trick that I'm missing or if it's just a matter of drawing out my own map or something...
At least the music is kickass.

It's always heartwarming to see companies giving their employees holiday gifts.

Season's greetings, y'all. Consider this my gift to you. (Yes, it was already posted... but it's all I've got to give right now.)

That sucks. I hope you get well soon, and will at least have a little time to celebrate between all the work. You certainly deserve it. I appreciate everything you do for the Steam threads. Merry Christmas!

Received an email an hour ago from Isthereanydeal.com informing me that The Evil Within is 15€ today on GameplanetUK which is even cheaper than today's Steam Special deal for this game.
Key is Steam compatible.

Oh, and I was blocked by Chariot too, despite my manga/anime avatar :-(

Does anybody have Dragon Age Origins on Steam, but not the expansion DAO Awakening?

I know most just get the Ultimate edition, but somehow
(through a series of unfortunate events lol D: )
I have a gift copy that I'm happy to give away to whomever has DAO already. I would modbot it, but it is kind of useless without the base game. Feel free to PM me.

I get so mad when I see that stupid Ultra Edition store page. Capcom needs to start from scratch and give Ultra Edition a new app so it doesn't confuse AE owners.
