A Star Ocean game on PC and a launch disco. What a time to be alive!

I wonder if we’re close to finding out about Dragon Quest Builders and World of Final Fantasy and if they are coming, now that we are at the year mark for their releases.

Why would they use Denuvo on such an old game? Denuvo isn't even effective anymore. The new South Park game already got cracked.

On the bright side, that price is pretty reasonable for Square.

That is strange considering I don't think there's a connection between the 2 other than shooting ships. I bought Raiden V last week and haven't received a copy, wonder what triggered it.

The same reason any company uses it, Denuvo is a sales company and convinced the other company it needed to use it. Even when Denuvo wasn't easily cracked, it was never actually effective at making the game publishers any money. It's as useless now as it was then from that perspective.

Some companies still bought enterprise licenses for things like Kaspersky and McAfee even when they were shown to be completely ineffective and actually harm the systems they were on, because they were convinced they should by someone else and didn't know any better.

My point is, people shouldn't give "companies" the benefit of the doubt on doing dumb shit because there's some upper management behind the decision somewhere and they do what they are convinced to do, regardless of who does the convincing. There's a reason social engineering is the main way to get sensitive data :p

So yeah, a few hours in and Cogmind is the real deal.

Feels like there's so much going on with this one. A retro ascii presentation with modern amenities (alt. tile-set graphics as well). TONS of raw data in the form of items, weapons, stats, etc. Walls and wall of text that may sound daunting on paper but is rather categorized & presented smartly, making the game feel weighty and dense with content. Wasn't expecting it but the writing & story are high quality as well. You talk to other robots with unique personalities, pick up logs, hack terminals for info, etc. all fleshing out the world. Every story bit is numerically cataloged in a Log that remains persistent between runs. Pulling up that Lore Log reveals that there's hundreds of entries to fill in. So you keep building the narrative no matter how many times you bite it. I understand that there's 7 unique endings as well.

Plays way faster than I would have imagined as well. Feels like BattleBots a bit in that you're always gathering up new gear (mobility, offence, defense, scouting, etc.) to equip yourself with and all those items combine to create an outer armor layer that protects your Core, which contains your true HP. These various items degrade in combat so you're always on the lookout for something not only new and exciting but also with a high condition as it doubles as protection. It's a great push-pull dynamic. Since it's turn-based it feels kinda XCOM with "Hit %" readouts during encounters (Pro-Tip: enable Tactical Readout" in Options for even more in-game combat data).

Game may look real Dwarf Fortress in stills, but in motion it's way more flashy. Lots of particle effects, screen shake for explosions, text & image overexposure & trails...stuff that makes it feel like a merge of vintage & modern technology. Surprising amount of unique ambient sound files as well. Not something you'd expect in this kind of game. Though on the flip side there's no music, and that's a conspicuous absence.

So yeah as I said, this thing is the real deal. I believe it's all made by one guy.

REALLY digging it so far.

Here's a quickie recommendation

http://store.steampowered.com/app/336840/Color_Guardians/

I am playing this on PS4 and it's a nice little auto-runner. 5 worlds, 10 main stages each and a boss battle. There are also a few unlockable levels too.
It's a score-based game, where you can aim to get a high score while switching colors to get orbs and clear obstacles.
Simple gameplay concept and it's a short game, so give it a play if you want something short to play.

Gave that whole compact thing a shot on my installed games on two locations.

Out of 263GB on my C drive it sliced of 64GB, and out of 133 on my X drive it took 32GB.

Almost 100 gigs out of 400 is not nothing, but I'm not really hurting for space at the moment so I probably won't bother with it.

STAR OCEAN™ - THE LAST HOPE -™ 4K & Full HD Remaster

Holy shit. They really had to put everything in the title, huh?
They could have added the price too.
STAR OCEAN™ - THE LAST HOPE -™ 4K & Full HD Remaster - $20.99
Does Steam allow regional names for Steam apps? Then they could use those to adapt the price to each regions currency.

Any downsides?

It was likely considered early on in development I guess. It'll be interesting to see future titles abandon Denuvo over time.

Finished Layers of Fear, had a great time. I loved the atmosphere and enjoyed the story well enough. I thought it would get repetitive but the game's short enough to avoid that and it usually manages to keep things tense and interesting up until the end. Definitely going to replay this as soon as I upgrade.

Get with the times SE, you need to include the Japanese title too.

So, I just finished up DOS2 yesterday, probably one of the best games I've played in years, my enjoyment was only slightly dampened by some softlocking glitches I ran into, so I recommend using quick saves a lot.

It would appear I finally got to the part where Doki Doki....gets doki doki.
EDIT: Oh thank god-
End.

EDIT: Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

In DOS2, I quicksave before pickpocketing every time... you never know when some sneaky NPC will turn.

I learn to do this after a succession of Fort Joy... incidents. It was, uh, not how things were supposed to go.

Cuphead is just strolling along, quietly hitting 700k on Steam alone. This game is a monster. The game should be a boss in its own game.

The power of creativity, polish and some E3 marketing at work.

I understand the instinctive impulse to save scum but I feel this game is better if you let your actions have consequences. At one point in the game I did a certain thing that gave my character a debuff to all sorts of elemental damage. I was tempted to reload my save but in the end I just decided to play like that and it made things interesting.

Ninja what? I gotta do WHAT to reach THAT in Doki Doki?
Ugh my mind ain't got time for that @o@
Ah well moving onto Darkside Detective, but y'all need to play Doki Doki, especially Dusk Golem.

A wild GPD Win 2 appears

Oh my. Good thing I hadn't bought one yet, will grab this if the model gets better over time.

I enjoyed it, but wish it didn't rely so heavily on jump scares (oh, and the "you're at a dead end, but turn around and the room/hallway has completely changed from where you came from" gimmick -- nifty the first couple times, less so the 12th or whatever it was).

Price point was probably a huge factor, even Elex's price point was a huge selling point for me. For example, if a Hat in Time was the same price as Cuphead I would have bought instantly, but with so many games coming out I can wait for a sale. I am not saying games arent worth more or less, but just from an impulse standpoint.

Yeah, I agree. It is much better to have an honest run. But it feels silly not to reload for that when I'm reloading to get through fights anyways. (I also wanted to, y'know, not kill everyone in a town for once.)

Like, I have a preference for full ironman/bronzeman, but only when the game has firm endings rather than game overs. In the latter case I'm driven to get through it at any cost.

You don't want to know how many times I've saved and reloaded in my various Total Warhammer campaigns.

A hat in time's price is fine for me, but I had to hold off on it due to other games+cuphead being a shorter game :X

Yea if A Hat in Time released a few months ago when I was starved for games I would have been fine, but just in the next 2 weeks I am about $200CAD in new games :(

It's crazy how it took one Star Wars game being effectively cancelled to make everyone worry about singleplayer games dying in a year like this one

sigh....fine I will buy it. That makes Assassins Creed, Elex, Nioh and Destiny 2 this "month". I think this the most day 1 purchases I have bought in an entire year.

Now now, I know I am one to tempt people into delving into madness, but keep in mind that CDKeys do allow refunds.
At best the Nioh port will run but it will leave much to be desired. I think the best it could ever be is...I dunno Nier A port quality? I mean even if Nioh PC turns out to be the best of KOEI Tecmo's published ports on Steam, I'll still be weary of their later releases.

Console kids need a reality check sometimes.
I think I ought to make a thread listing various games released this year with solid Singe Player campaigns.
Just to draw out stupid posts for our amusement :p

How much is it going to be at release? Steam doesnt have a price, although CDkeys says its base price is "$83.49CAD"
