Something i just noticed, there were actually more giveaways during the Summer Sale, but people abused the system and now there may be less giveaways on the whole.

I remember Dukeboby scraping money together for more giveaways, then BHK3 comes in and trades Rogue Legacy away for some cheap game.

Or Javadots just taking everything and hording it for trades on other sites.

So bad.

I wonder if the people (person?) that made Bad Rats knows why they get so many sales from one or two people here. Would be amazing if they were targeting GAF.

There are whole 2 genres dedicated to hybrids of strategy and RPG.
1. TRPGs or tactical RPGs, where your units level and you have lots of classes to choose from, and combat is done on grid usually and requires you tactically manage battles. Most of those are on concoles, all big series are there. But there is one Agarest game on steam and I'm pretty sure I played indie game in same style, will look later for title.
2. SRPGs or strategy RPGs, where you level heroes, and do your combat by choosing your units wisely but usually they don't level. It often have tactical grid combat too, but you do lot of managing resources and sometimes even building. Many such series are on steam, to name a few: Heroes of Might and Magic, King's Bounty, Disciples, Eador.

And then there are odd apples like Might and Magic: Clash of heroes, which is awesome, btw.

Ok awesome. Looks like I have some research to do! Thanks for giving me a starting point.

Already own Starbound. I'm entering for Bad Rats, baby.

LOL. How is Starbound BTW? I entered hoping to win but I've heard nothing but great things.

LIMBO is amazing BTW. I won it last night and its a beautiful game. I'm going inbetween this thread and LIMBO right now.

Alright so what's the sentiment on the xcom expansion, was it well done? Did it give the main game some sorely needed replayability and randomness?

At the very least, give along with receiving.

ughhh.. Javadots.

It seems like there are quite a few games going unclaimed. Is there a smaller window for exemption on ModBot than a day? Like, 6 hours or something?

I was gonna take Fez off that last giveaway, but I think I got Bad Rats last night (and I declined the gift like a chump ;_; ).

Anyhow, I think a 24h ban is good, GAF has grown a lot in the last year, we're setting new peak records all the time, the widest possible swath of people should get to participate in these giveaways. I've gotten Hotline, FTL, The Witcher, and X-Com (and prolly a few lesser games that I forget) from these threads.

Good fun even in its early days. Been meaning to get back to it and see how it's shaped up after the last major patch.

If you win Starbound, can I buy Bad Rats for you and we can do a trade? lol

Don't worry, I won't win anything. Stump's rigged Modbot such that I will never win a raffle.

I think the best thing I read was some of the new second wave options that were added, in particular ability roulette (or something to that effect), where your abilities picked upon rank up are randomized.

I was hoping they took most of those abilities out and made new, better ones. The options after leveling up always seemed so obvious to me because 1 was always way less useful than the other. Now they just give you a 50/50 shot of getting the bad abilities.

What have i done :(

You have the greatest game ever made. And Human Revolution.

I'm thinking of doing a Bad Rats Roulette giveaway, but last night's giveaway where the Bad Rats winners didn't activate their "wins" really put me off of the idea.

I'm not sure if there is a good way around this, though.
I have a notification set up on isthereanydeal for $.50 Bad Rats in any place that is not Steam. I need them keys for a proper bad rats roulette.

edit-

Actually, even with keys people could just wait to see if anyone else got the main prize and then not redeem the bad rats. Threatening with being added to the blacklist if they fail to add it to their library like you did, could work better.

Ok. I just checked my finances and I'm done for this week I think. I can scrape in a bargain purchase of Dragon Age Ultimate if it goes on a Daily sale, along with Rage and that's about it. The Witcher 2 will have to wait until next year (that's what I said last year -lol).

FNV Ultimate for $5 and the Bioshock Infinite DLC for $3.75 have been my favourite purchases so far. Good deals all round :)

Is Deux Ex just a glorified shooter WRPG?

Assuming you mean Human Revolution, no. It's nowhere near as deep or open as the first game was, but you can certainly make it through most of the game without needing shoot. At least, assuming the Director's Cut changes are what they promised. The boss encounters in the original put a requirement on a combat focus for some of your skills.

Thank you for the info. I should have been more clear: I want to try out a real-time strategy game since, as you said, the only strategy game I've played before was a turn-based one. Does Shogun 2 have any RPG-like elements? Like, can you upgrade your units or is there any kind of reward/exp system at all? Or is it just straight-up "here's your troops, go defeat the enemy army" kind of gameplay?

In TW your units gain veterancy and some additional abilities. Also your generals and agents (spy, monk, ect) have an unlock tree. For a general you can increase his battle stats or increase the bonuses he gives to nearby troops. For agents (there are 3-4 types) it is more of a specialisation. Do I want my spy to be better at killing other agents or sabotaging the enemy? Do I want my monk to better convert the enemy to my religion or give more bonuses to my troops?
You can also decide who marries your clan leader/children/generals. For the rest it is more "managing" (very little) your settlements and choosing what to build and uniting the land under your banner.

I've played a varying amount of real-time and turn-based strategy games and TW:S2 is one of my favourites with nearly 500 hours played.
