I actually used to play Metal Drift a little, controls were a little clunky and the multiplayer was a ghostland but it was fairly decent.

I've tried the tutorial like 3 times but just get overwhelmed and give up. This is coming from someone who loves the Civ series.

That was my first experience as well. It's best to disregard the in-game tutorial.
Honestly, you might have to set aside a good hour or two to read/watch (I found that watching a video was more helpful) a tutorial.

As soon as you "get" the logic of the game the rest will be eaier to understand, but at first it can be a real uphill battle.

Base game was fantastic, and a steal for $5. I personally had more fun with it than I did GTA V. Not sure if you need all that DLC though. I picked up a few of them that people recommended and found them underwhelming and unnecessary.

I'm actually ending up playing a ton of games over this Steam sale, but I honestly wish that I wasn't. The rest of the family is all sick as dogs, so when the wife and kids all take NyQuil and hit the sack at like 8:00 it's way to early for me to turn in, so I pick up the house and hop on Steam for a while. Would rather be snowshoeing and doing more holiday stuff, but I've been trying to make the best of it at least by enjoying some extra game time.
