Steam introduces the ability for users to tag games.

For me I don't even need tags for my library, just the ability to drag and drop into categories I create. If by "categories" they do tagging, then fine. But typing in tags for each game based on what tags I want to use is no better than the plodding manual process they currently have.

Yeah, I agree. Especially since a system for categorisation exists but is not implemented well enough yet. I imagine they will allow personal tags and a filter to list by those tags and arrange them in an order that is meaningful to you... or perhaps that's wishful thinking. We'll have to wait some more

thanks for the laugh
i imagine this will start off as a rascal's paradise and fairly useless, but should it stabilise, the result will be valve having the blueprint for something resembling the last.fm of gaming built in to the itunes of gaming.

a scary thing indeed.

How will Bad Rats be tagged?

Ugh, this shit is why PC gaming is scary to some people (amongst other reasons). To organize my games better, I need to research and download third party applications? Come on, Steam should have a much better way to organize/categorize my games at this point, it's like a decade old and it's laughably bad right now.

No, to organize your games better you can download a third party application. Whereas if I want to see what games I own on my 20gb 360 I need to delve into system options, account info, purchases list and sort through all my demo downloads and dlc to see which games I actually own. And I can't do shit about it unless I want to invest in additional proprietary drives.

I think we should all tag Hl2:Ep2 with "Shenmue 2". As in 3 is never coming.

Organizing my downloadable games and redownloading them on my PS3 is a nightmare compared to regular old Steam, and I don't even have the option to download something to make it better. I haven't spent much time with the Xboxes, so I'm just going to assume those have perfectly comprehensive, customizable organization options.

The feature started today. I think it will heal itself. By upvoting good ones you do downvote bad ones as well. Not as a direct downvote but still.

Let's see

Yea I know. I posted in the Steam thread that the community usually self-corrects these things.

I think there needs to be some sort of moderation on the tags. I mean, what's stopping people from tagging games like "Hero dies at the end?"

I think Steam probably intends the users to moderate, but still I think a simple "report" function on tags would suffice. Enough people report something and it gets reviewed and possibly removed.

How many people have to add a tag for it to show up on the popular tag list for a game? I added "Boulder Punching Simulator" to RE5.

Q. What if I don't agree with a tag that has become popular for my game?
A. Tags can be a good indicator of when there is a mismatch between how you perceive your game, and how your game is perceived by customers. Often this is simply because there is some piece of information regarding the game that customers feel is missing from the store page.

"Deal with it"

Seriously, if 4Chan starts bombing a game it doesn't like with bad tags, what can people do?

Some of these DOTA tags are quite something.

I can tell this is just going to end up being a way to spread injokes about the game in question.

Not like that's a bad thing.

Probably my favourite tag so far is "Not Metal Gear Rising" for DMC: Devil May Cry.

The "Only tag games you own" and the fact that you might get banned from Tagging if you tag inappropriate things I think.
4chan is really not the only guys who do that kind of things.
