Murakami's books are often quite different from one another, but I think his masterpiece is The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and I also think it's one of the best books ever written. It's quite hard to summarize the plot, but suffice it to say it's engaging, interesting, and well worth your time.

You might like to consider turning off images completely in your GAF Profile Control Panel. That's what I have done and it is such a blessing. I miss the avatars [well some of them] and image links can still be clicked if I'm curious but crappy/creepy gifs [usually quoted multiple times together with an inane comment e.g. "lol", "my sides", "dying" etc] I do not miss.
He's probably still busy banging his head repeatedly against his desk.
I chose both in my playthrough. I even flirted with all the possible female characters in the game only to get all the sexy cards.

Such a nice evening.
Installed dozens upon dozens of games yesterday and started one today.
Dark Souls 2.
What an awesome game. I thought my old gamepad would work but the right stick didn't pan camera but instead triggered heavy attacks, hah.
So I had to use M/KB. Maybe it's because I played Demons Souls with a gamepad but I feel the Souls games go smoother with one. Called my cousin and now I have a DS3 to my leisure :3
Now just to learn how to set it up to be played via USB. Don't have Bluetooth and don't want to waste a USB port for a dongle.
Besides being a great game, I have to give credit to From Software for their outstanding efforts at the optimization front. It's plain ludicrous that a game from 2014 runs on my laptop from 2007 so gosh darn smooth. Insane. I even started the game at max. settings and still got - for me at least - playable framerates of 10-15. This is insane. A game that comes out in '14 even starting up would have surprised me.
So I played for an hour or so and came to a room where a girl who turned into stone was blocking a lever. Couldn't figure out to remove her, so I just stopped. I think I will not return to DS2 anytime soon anyway. I believe I should play Dark Souls Prepare To Die beforehand .
Can't imagine how smooth it will run, now that I know DS2 ran so well :3
So excited! Gotta grab DSfix though I think before that.
And thanks to frost for answering my questions!

Sorcerer was not the right choice for a noob like me. I should have gone Swordsman or Warrior. At least I know what class to choose for DS1 now.
Oh and the gift I choose was the Human Effigy. Just moments after getting it, I ran upstairs and found one in a chest -_-

MUCH more difficult IMO. It gets easier after you learn each area, but you'll die a thousand deaths before then.
Personally, I'd recommend Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World (it was my first Murakami novel and jumpstarted my appreciation of him as an author), but I'm interested in hearing The_Monk's thoughts on the topic myself. : )

The alternative is celebrating your 16th birthday.
I'm about to turn 21 and I honestly feel too old already.
Some of the commentary is very spoiler-y. It's also pretty interruptive. I recently did a second playthrough with commentary of the first three games and would definitely not recommend doing that the first time.
