He goes into some pretty interesting stuff that I didn't know about.

As I said I am not against calling out Nvidia for stupid things they do (or any other company) but I want 100% bulletproof evidence for those claims. In case of Nvidia and GameWorks it would be nice to hear real dev who worked on at least two major engines and it is part of the industry for a long time.

These YouTube videos with shalow research is not something I like and support.

Urghhhhh. How about not having any meaningful driver enhancements for Kepler cards is close to 18 months. It's not like this is anything new to someone who has been an Nvidia user for any length of time and holds onto their GPU for a while. Just look at 2014's big hitters at the end of the year and the performance difference between Kepler and Maxwell cards.

Pascal can't come late enough, I want optimization for my 970 as long as possible.

Thumb aching? How do you hurt your thumb on a joystick?
:D I can't play with the stick during late hours, the microswitches of my two old HORI RAP are far too noisy (both the vanilla and the one I modded with Seimitsu / Sanwa parts).

Anyway...

anybody tried the HORI RAP Hayabusa Silent? Is it really quiet or is it just the name?

So this is the first weekend in months I'm free. No family gumph to attend to, no football or mates to attend, no distractions and can do what I want. I've got Dragon's Dogma, Tomb Raider actively on the go, still Witcher III and Syndicate to finish off as well as betas for SFV and The Division to look at. And I'm not in the mood for any of them. I think I might just go down the pub.

That's what you get for not owning PS Vita. Now you could take your Vita with you and enjoy drinking in the pub while playing animu games :D

Every time I mention I've still not finished the Witcher III I feel this presence is watching over me, like I've committed a terrible sin and must make up for my indiscretions. Yes, yes you know who you are and I'll get to it soon. I know I've said that the past 6 months but you can't rush perfection.

I misplaced my Vita when moving house last. Not that it saw much actions and the last thing I played on it was Teddybear, Murder Mystery Courtroom Showdown 1 and that's coming to Steam next month.

Drinking this early? That's some dedication.

Hey we living in an era of lax licencing laws now. It's not like I'm one of those old soaks going into Wetherspoons at 8 in the morning, ordering a fry up just so I can have a pint.

Isolation is amazing so far. There's a moment at the end of the second level when you're waiting for the elevator to arrive, and it's scripted to not show up for 45 seconds while the music gets more and more tense and you can hear the creature skulking about in the background. I knew about it beforehand, and it still made me nervous.

So good.

Just killed 20(6) people in Rise of the Tomb Raider but it does that terrible thing where you can't pick up their weapon until the game deems it eligible >_>

I am still looking for Dandelion and i still need to visit Skellige for the first time (i played 70 hours of Witcher 3)

I pretty much just used stealth and the bow in RotTR short of the few scripted sequences where you have to use other weapons. By the time you've got the upgrade to fire multiple arrows at once, then the upgrade that locks on to target, then the upgrade that locks on to their heads it's pretty much broken as Mark and Execute in Splinter Cell Conviction.

84 hours and just finished Act 1! I know it's meant to be the longest act but 84 flipping hours* for the setup chapter is a lot man.

*I left no stone unturned, no damsel still in distress, no waterhag unvanquished and no marriage counselling session unfulfilled.

I beat the Witcher 3 and 90% of the side quests on death march is just under 60 hours. You kids are crazy.

Didn't fuck with Gwent much though
Some people take their time appreciating the smaller things, observing the environment, going out on adventures without being driven by objective markers.

Others go through the game with a very focused mindset, sticking to being efficient and fast traveling from quest marker to quest marker.

And of course any variant inbetween.

There are few to none wrong ways to approach the game, but these different approaches can lead to dramatically different playing times. Open world games have no pacing but the one players choose, after all.

I must also say me and dex are mental and both turned off all map markets bar essential ones so if you were to find anything it was through exploration alone and not via satnat, Ubisoft style.

And i played first 15 hours without any HUD :D But game is not designed to be played like that so i had to turn on mini map, enemy level/health and Geralt health.

Just executed a dude who had his eyes gouged out.

Such development

Did they get rid of the ice pick executions? It keeps going into a bow stealth kill that gets me killed in combat.

Finished RotTR, did a decent bit of sidequests?

Super pretty, but only mediocre as a game. Still an uncharted clone, now with uninspired sidequests and an psuedo-open world without incentive to explore it. Would have preferred a fully fleshed out one (which I doubt the dev team wanted to put the effort into, as it would have been a lot larger of a game) or a more well designed single player closed level game.

Regardless, one major stupidity that this game does that countless games do-- and i'll tag it, even if I'm not giving the context at all-- but seriously, games, stop doing this
giving me the choice to spare/kill someone as a moral decision and then killing them in the same scene if I choose spare, you're ruining the whole damn point of the choice and giving up an opportunity to flesh out your character.

Now, actually identifiable spoiler of sorts
also not a fan of "use item to kill whole room" *everyone dies but important dude because he has last words to give off against all logic even though it's an instant kill by nature*
because this feels like you could have done it better without that happening at all.

Thank you.

I've not finished it yet but it's hard to muster the enthusiasm to. I genuinely wonder why some critics were calling it GOTY worthy or claiming that it was an unsung contender just cos it was XB1 exclusive at the time and no one played it.

It suffers many of the laundry list of complaints that its predecessor did; largely that it's incredibly generic, design-by-committee (oh we've got to have open world and crafting nowadays guys!) and boring.

Yes, it was the gripping tale of how one young woman was pushed to her limits and unleashed the mass murderer within. Like a female version of Come and See really.

RotTR continues this thread amicably well I can assure you :p

Me too, yo.

I've only got Geralt's health and enemy health enabled. No minimap, no durability indicators, no equipment / potion indicators... No... Whatever else might be there to remove. :3

I'm getting one in maybe the next week or so, so I can let you know lol. Honestly they are kinda the only sticks available here for a decent price.

It's a skill you unlock through one of the skill-trees iirc. It's called... Something along the lines of Quick Execution or something. It's in one of the second tiers, I believe.

This scene and one other I mentioned in the thread before really stood out to me.

A man is literally writhing on the floor in pain after Lara has massacred a room full of mercenaries and she can interact with this man in no way apart from shooting him.
Either she leaves him in pain or ends his life, all done in game with no context or thought put to the scene, the only input is that of the player none from Lara, no quips or dialgoue; she comes off like a psycho (again).

Never mind the shouts of "I'll take all you bastards on" in combat.

I was actually admiring the restraint shown in ROTR, by giving me at least an hour at the start of the game without any enemies to slaughter, in something vaguely resembling a tomb. Seems that doesn't last though.

I want to protect Lara's enemies

I want a game where you play as the nameless mook army, and have to hold out against a health regenerating monstrously powerful protagonist who can survive almost everything and can just reload if you kill them, so the only way to win is to drive their frustration up enough that they'll shut off the game.

But that just ends your own existence. So there'd be some depressingly philosophical ideas going on too.

That charm that wants us to protect her oh so much :p

Yes, that was probably the best part of the game to me, I wanted more of that.

Ignoring Lara's moronic choices in plot however
"Quick let's hide in the one place which the enemy will definitely look!"
And also, "hmm I just happened to find a crucial mcguffin for the plot lying on the ground after escaping the level" which reminded me of when Gears 1 horribly did it.
Yes I'm comparing the story to Gears XD

I mean if only we could talk to the monsters instead of just shooting them.

Ha! Dude you've got to the point where big budget games just aren't for you anymore. Nothing wrong with that but what you're looking for more than likely isn't going to be in them.

Yeah, this probably is true frankly.

I just can't sit down, turn my brain off and shoot people anymore :p
Then again I actually enjoyed the campaign for Hardline surprisingly quite recently :-/

All these Dawn of the Planet of the Tomb Raider spoilers tho

When I get my new GPU it's going to be my first game I play, the screenshots out there are just insane.

Good old Edge magazine.

Seriously though, it's a shame that the big budget AAA space is dominated by these beautifully detailed, interesting worlds to explore, but the only way of interacting with them is through violence.

"Go destroy these antennas for me"
"Sure!"

Dialogue after quest completion:
"Are the antennas destroyed?"
"It is done"

The one thing I think I can safely say is an improvement over TR2013 is the stealth gameplay, the open nature of the levels gives you a lot more options, and it's really satisfying to take out an outpost without any alerts.

Still this is no MGS, AI is dumb as a post. Many stealth kills just shouldn't have been a stealth kill; I killed a guy having a conversation with his buddy and then he just walked off mid sentence.
Or how as soon as you're seen, even if you quickly kill that guard, everyone knows where you are. You can't flank as guards are omnipotent and know where you are at all times once in alert mode.

Nah.

It's nowhere near the gem that Tales from the Borderlands is, but it's not the worst thing they've ever done. And aside from the strange ending to it all that seemed out of place, it felt very much like GoT to me.

I wouldn't recommend it to casual fans, but as someone who had recently finished the last available GoT book, I was looking for something more in the universe and the game kind of scratched that itch. Especially since there wasn't a lot of opportunity for me to compare it to what happened in the books (say, if I were to start watching the HBO series) and become irritated because of it.
As a hardcore fan, I don't like TT GoT at all. The protagonist house feels like an inferior copy of the Starks, the less likeable character spends the entire game being subject of constant mindless torture from Boltons and co, they didn't even finish what they set off to do from the start.

Characters dying like flies just made me grow numb, it's so joyless and dull that nearly all emotional moments fell flat. I find it funny that Telltale had the audacity of putting a cliffhanger ending in, did they seriously expect people to care enough to fork out more money for mind-numbing torture porn?
